  1. Thanks. I came across both those suggestions, the Adguard being the only one of the two I could try at the moment. May just do that.
  2. Very politely of course, and I was laughing just a wee bit.
  3. Thanks, mta, I'm finding that out, but at least it isn't (at the moment) my use everyday phone.
  4. Never wanted a smart phone, still don't, but I'm now the owner of a new Android 5.0 device. Since Skype withdrew their support for smart tv's across every platform, I needed something to Skype my grandkids (6 and 2), who have now moved to Ireland. Their parents moved with them so that's good of course. The advice ... 1: I'm tearing my hair out because of ads, so what do you guys recommend in way of an ad blocker. Not just browser ads, but ads popping up in apps. One of the worst culprits being Avast free A/V. Yea, I know that's the cost of free, but Avast pops up a half screen sized ad after every scan. Really irritating. 2: I got rid of Avast and installed AVG free, which for a basic scan, doesn't pop up an ad afterwards. Well recommended and seems good, but do I actually need a fully fledged A/V, something else, or nothing. I believe an A/V is needed these days, but which is the best and least intrusive and low on resources? And please don't tell me the best solution is to get an iPhone as I ain't paying hundreds of pounds for something I don't want. I'm keeping my "internet locked out" little Samsung phone for day to day use. Any advice on anything Android would be good. Thank you all in advance. The "you all" part being blissfully optimistic.
  5. A reminder of past successes, with more to come hopefully ...
  6. Similar solution dpaulhesk. Although your link doesn't work, I can see that you chose the "Standard installer ccseup520.exe" and not the "Installer, no toolbar ccsetup520_slim.exe". Here's the link again ... http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds Scroll down to find the "Slim" build which is free from Google software.
  7. See if you have "Adobe Flash Player" checked in "Applications/Multimedia". If it's checked, uncheck it and see if that fixes the issue. Welcome to the forum by the way.
  8. Hi Andre, and welcome to the forum. Reading your post I'm unsure as to whether you've bought the "CCleaner Pro Plus bundle" for a Windows computer, and all is OK with that, but you're having problems downloading CCleaner for Mac. (Not a Pro Bundle). Or have you purchased and downloaded the "CCleaner Pro Plus bundle" thinking it was a Mac version, and then finding an exe file in the download? If you are looking for a CCleaner only download for Mac then it's available here, and not an exe file but a dmg file ... CCleaner for Mac: (Free or Professional) If you've purchased the "CCleaner Pro Plus bundle" thinking it was for Mac, then let me know and we'll sort it out as I don't think there is a "Pro Plus Bundle" for Mac. Not that I can find anyway.
  9. Hi StanfordAlan, and welcome to the forum. Have a look at "TestDisk" and "PhotoRec". Sister programs in the same download. TestDisk: PhotoRec: PhotoRec can do a lot more than image recovery. They both look at first glance like command line but aren't. They have a structured menu system to follow and are very powerful. Take note and use the extensive guides and helpfiles. And of course they have a forum ... TestDisk & PhotoRec forum: Being a windows user, these are the only cross platform programs I have experience with. Hope that helps and good luck.
  10. I'm sure the devs will appreciate your offer although I've no idea as to whether they'll take you up on it. Thanks all the same.
  11. Hi oscles, and welcome to Piriform. I assume from the wording of your post that you're talking about one Zip file in particular and not Zip files in general, so I think your best bet will be having a try with "DiskInternals ZIP Repair 1.1". It's right at the bottom of this page under "Freeware Products". http://www.diskinternals.com/download/ This is the only program with which I've personally had success in repairing a faulty Zip file, and I tried a few products. Make sure the Zip file is showing at or near it's correct size and not 0 bytes, and it may work for you also. You don't say which OS your using, but I believe it will work with all, although the site states up to Win 8.1 Hope that helps, and good luck.
  12. Hi DEDE, and welcome to the forum. I'm not sure about that one. Have you had any other Piriform Pro "Trial" products on that computer? Dunno if that would cause the pop-up you have about CCleaner Pro Trial, but it's a thought. Maybe one of the other guys will have come across this before and provide some info. I've edited the title of your topic by the way to make it clearer and hopefully elicit a better response. If nothing is forthcoming from the other members, I'll point the Piriform devs to your topic.
  13. Hi arrgee, and welcome to Piriform. You are not alone with this problem ... https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=46657 I've moved your topic to the CCleaner For Mac section, and as we're mostly Windows users on this forum I'll point the CCleaner devs here and hopefully they'll throw light on what the issue is exactly. Hope that helps.
  14. Hi anthpit, and welcome to Piriform, As you are referring to a paid version of CCleaner, you're entitled to direct Piriform support. You'll get help here ... Piriform Support (Submit a request) Hope that helps.
  15. Hi onesickpuppy, and welcome to Piriform. I can understand and sympathise with the username. This type of thing sucks. You're not the first and you won't be the last to make a simple but pretty consequential slip up. Try not to beat yourself up. I have never formatted an NTFS drive (and I assume that's what we're talking about here) to Linux so have no idea how that process works, but if the time involved wasn't much more than the 5 minutes you mention then I doubt that a full format of the drive was carried out. One of the other guys who've possibly carried out this type of file format change to a drive may have a definitive answer to the point I'm raising, and that is it may be possible that only the initial boot sectors of the drive have been changed to reflect the new file system, and the data may still be there. Have a read here, and you'll understand why I'm thinking that way ... Solved: Mistakenly changed my main NTFS Partition to EXT4. Data gone? And this is the free software used ... PhotoRec: Photrec may look like command line and simple, but it is menu driven, very powerful and has extensive help files and guides so is well worth the effort of getting to know. Try this first, but you may also be able to get at your data (if it's still there as mentioned above), by using a "LiveCD". The LiveCD List: An example of how to use a LiveCD here, and a good one at that ... How to use an Ubuntu LiveCD: (How-to Geek) Hope that helps, and you may get some input from one of the other guys if they have experience with this. And of course post back if you need enlightenment on any of the above. We may not have it but we'll try our best.
  16. With "Space" in mind how about this ... http://s31.postimg.org/liamtuh5n/2016_07_12_205718.jpg Not very interesting so here's one I made a few years ago, and if you're a Piri the Pear fan, don't worry, he escaped.
  17. Hi nikki. Some relevant info here in case you (or anyone else) thinks of going down the Carbonite road ... https://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=46169 Not my opinion of course in case we get any disgruntled Carbonite directors signing up for forum membership. ---------- Regarding Image backups (of which I'm a huge fan), you have to realise that these are also file and folder backups. A Macrium Image for example can be mounted as a drive and explored like any normal drive. Files and folders can be copied from the mounted Image as simply as copying from a file and folder backup on a real drive. A more extreme example is you also have access to things like the registry hives in "Windows/system32/config", which I have in the past actually copied and pasted from an Image to fix a registry issue rather than carry out a full restore. Not for the faint hearted but possible. You have backups of stuff you wouldn't think to back up.
  18. For now the same as last month, so that makes a pear pair.
  19. I don't have this problem as I only ever update the Avast "Engine and Virus Definitions". As far as the program goes I stayed with Version 6.0.1367. I'm not saying that's a recommendation, but it suits me and Avast still does it's job and updates the important stuff just the same.
  20. You're welcome rr. Cool picture! Did you use a "macro" setting to take that? I have a thing about close up photography of creepy crawlies and I posted some on here a few years ago. It's staggering how complex (and absolutely beautiful) those little beasties are in "close" close-up.
  21. Took the words out of my mouth. Just kiddin', but we appreciate you taking the time and trouble to post back your findings. Welcome to the forum by the way.
  22. Very unlikely as I assume you're using the free version of CCleaner. We're all simply users on this forum and not affiliated with Piriform in any way. The Professional (paid for) version would give you direct support from the developers, although, as this is an issue I can't recollect ever seeing before, one of the Piriform guys may just contribute to help both you and them. I'll point them here so keep looking in, but I can't promise. Hope that helps.
  23. Haven't done this for a while (not the update, the thanks), but thanks hazel. EDIT: Wonder where the topic starter is these days?
  24. Hi Travasaurus. Short of one of the guys who has experience with NAS stuff (I don't) contributing to your topic, I think this may be a "Drive Letter" issue. I doubt CCleaner will find any storage device which doesn't have a correctly assigned drive letter. Some information here may help ... Map a Network Drive in Windows 10: If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will jump in and put me (and you) right. Hope that helps.
  25. Quite a bit of stuff here to get your head around ... Digital Photography Tutorials: A learning community for photographers. The fun with DSLR's, if you have the patience, is learning to do everything manually, and that site explains just about everything there is to explain about the technical aspects of taking photographs. A bonus is the quality of the site itself. That was a great deal you got there by the way.
