  1. Autoruns is a great tool, but it can be pretty dangerous if used inexpertly.
  2. If you can't get rid of certain softwares (because the installation may be corrupted), you can always try to remove it using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
  3. See http://www.adobe.com/products/reader.html for some information on what's new in Adobe Reader X.
  4. I am again refused access to the forum (Forbidden); this time from IP address 183.177.185.102
  5. Actually the lang and other DLL files were in the CCleaner main folder, not in the lang subfolder - I think this is where they went in the earlier CCleaner versions. I don't mind having all the (new) lang DLLs in the lang folder; I just wasn't sure why there were duplicate lang files (from 2004) in the main folder. The uninstaller, however, deleted all of them, and only left the winapp2.ini file.
  6. I have the slim version installed, and I have observed the same thing in the laster CC version.
  7. I think you mean date format: YYMMDD.
  8. For some reason I don't remember, I went to look at the CCleaner install folder today. To my surprise I found lots of old DLL files in there, e.g. a dozen lang-XXXX.dll files from 2004, and several others from 2005 and 2006. My guess is that they are leftovers from all the upgrades I did since CCleaner 1.00 So I exported all my settings and uninstalled/reinstalled CCleaner. Now I have only 3 files (including winapp2.ini) in the CCleaner folder. Very nice; very clean! I wish that CCleaner could have done this by itself...
  9. "Festplatten Wiper" should probably be replaced with "Festplatten Wischer".
  10. So do most users. But the Ask toolbar is an especially vicious one, considered by many as spyware. Some vendors (like Foxit) bundle the toolbar in a way that you need a double opt-out to prevent it from getting installed, and in some versions even that double opt-out did not prevent it from getting installed. (It also did not provide an uninstaller!) I really hope that this particular pest will disappear from the face of the earth!
  11. I don't see anything in that announcement that they will discontinue the toolbar...? Maybe you know something that I don't...?
  12. That (if they know where to look) is exactly the point; I don't know any average user who ever checks the optional updates. Good intentions from Microsoft, but pretty useless! It should really be the computer manufacturers that must install MSE or other free AV (on preinstalled Windows), but not Symantec trialware!
  13. Really? I have just recently seen an announcement for OpenOffice 3.3 RC3; to me that looks like "someone" is still developing there...?
  14. Thank you MrG - the problem is now fixed on my IP address. @Ishi: take a note of your IP address (http://whatismyipaddress.com/) when you cannot access the forum, then send it as a PM to MrG.
  15. Anyway, why not just use the "slim" installer, as suggested in post #3?
  16. Also try the new CCleaner build 3.00.1310.
  17. See also http://www.documentfoundation.org/faq/ for some clarifications.
  18. Contrary to what many people believe, "cleaning" the registry does not speed up your computer. In fact I cannot see any advantage in deleting unused registry entries. I have used this computer (Windows 2000) for 10 years, never ran any "registry cleaner", and it still runs as fast as on the first day.
  19. Do you mean CCleaner, or really ncleaner? If the latter, try http://www.nkprods.com/support/.
  20. Sorry, I just sent you a PM regarding this, before I saw your reply here.
  21. It's not one cookie, it's a cookie for every company in that list! I just tried it, and it created about 100 cookies. Needless to say, I will not exempt any of these, and continue to clean cookies with CCleaner.
  22. If I understand this correctly (http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/faqs.asp#question_9), you would need to exempt that cookie (http://www.networkadvertising.org/managing/faqs.asp#question_11) from being deleted by CCleaner. Otherwise the "opt-out" would be deleted each time your run CCleaner.
  23. That is not quite accurate. Deleting the entire PF cache will degrade performance. But not deleting old, unused entries. From my experience, CCleaner does it better than Windows. When the PF cache becomes "full" (128 entries), then Windows will delete half of them, regardless of their "last used date".
