  1. I've installed it this morning; I just don't know why, as I never use IE...
  2. Graphics driver updates often come with new features; that is why some softwares require the latest drivers to function correctly.
  3. I have seen posts in the Mozilla forums that promises an improved version for Firefox 20/21. That would be useful if you use a 64-bit version like Waterfox or Cyberfox.
  4. Some softwares (like Photoshop, Premiere, AfterEffects, Flash, Flash Player) do perform better with the latest graphics drivers. When a new driver becomes available on my graphics card's manufacturer's site, I'll update. Needless to say that I create a System Restore Point before that. I am much more cautious when Windows Update offers driver updates. Last time I let that install (two weeks ago) it gave me an immediate BSOD. Fortunately Windows Update also creates an automatic System Restore Point.
  5. Firefox 19 comes with a new PDF viewer add-on called PDF.js; it is absolutely terrible! The first PDF I tried to display (http://helpx.adobe.c...r_reference.pdf) looks like this To fix this and use your standard PDF viewer plugin: Tools | Options | tab Applications change (Content type: Portable Document Format) to Now your PDF document should display correctly in your PDF viewer plugin In case you do not see 'Portable Document Format' under the Applications tab, you may need to reset your Firefox profile (Help | Troubleshooting | Reset Firefox).
  6. Looks suspiciously like a Photoshop job to me...

    Startup Tab

You can save your startup items list to a text file, then copy/paste it here in the forum. Or add as an attachment.
  8. http://www.libreoffi...m-requirements/ notes From my understanding, Java will still be required for backwards compatibility, even if they use an SQL engine that is not dependent on Java.
  9. At the top of the website they mention (in very smal print) "inofficial" German download site.
  10. Is that ccleaner.de (I intentionally did not make this a hyperlink) ? According to who.is, this domain is registered to Nicolas Tim Ginzel Luennewelle 30 D-38446 Wolfsburg They also offer a slightly old CCleaner version (3.26) - that does not make them look very legitimate...
  11. But interestingly, when I do that same search as you did, I do not see that rogue download site anywhere in my results:
  12. softm8.com (located in Bulgaria) appears to be a rogue download site. It lists these softwares on their main page: Skype 5.1 - the latest version is 6.1.0.129 avast! Free Antivirus 7.0 - the latest version is 7.0.1474 CCleaner 3.23 - we know what the latest version is Minecraft 1.4.2 - the latest version is 1.15.1 Free Download Manager 3.9 - the latest version is 3.9.2 Flash Player 11 - the latest version is 11.5.502.146 Yahoo Messenger 11.5 - the latest version is 11.5.0.228 7-Zip 4.42 - the latest version is 9.20 I bet they package all their downloads in a similar fashion as they do with CCleaner.
  13. Acronis True Image has worked well for me over many years.
  14. Can you open Task Manager and check the Processes tab to see what's using all that RAM?
  15. P.S. interestingly I have not seen any 3rd-party software offers when I installed jre7u13 on about 5 computers over the last few days. These were both installations with the full installer download, and also with the automatic updater.
  16. It is a bit more than "rubbish"; it is plain spyware.
  17. Most likely it was just the list of recent documents in Word that was cleared, not the Word docs themselves. You can prevent that from happening by unchecking 'Office 2010' under the Applications tab.
  18. Type %temp% into the Windows Explorer address bar.
  19. I think it's partially sloppy by the developers. The installer "knows" exactly what it is placing into the registry and data folders, so the uninstaller should be able to remove all this. However, program usage, preferences editing etc. may place additional registry entries that are not known to the uninstaller. Furthermore, program updates may place more stuff into the registry, and at the end the uninstaller really cannot know what has been added since the original installation.
  20. Good! Now I can type my name in Japanese: パット ヴィレネル
  21. While I love CCleaner, and have used it since version 1.0, I have never used its registry cleaner component, and therefore I never experienced any problem. I am sure there are many CCleaner users here that use the registry cleaner regularly, and also never have had any problems. But if you want to be 100% safe, don't use it. What do you gain my running the registry cleaner? Maybe a good feeling, but nothing more. Removing a few (hundred) unused registry entries means absolutely nothing. You end up with a few empty slots in the registry database, but Windows will not run any faster because of this, nor will your applications. Cleaning the registry always carries a certain risk, even with a relatively save program like CCleaner.
  22. Shockwave Player is not widely used; there are just a few public games that are based on Shockwave. Due to its low usage there are very few users reporting problems at the Adobe forum. Flash Player (also known as Shockwave Flash) is very widely used for videos and games. There are a number of different problems reported in the Adobe forum, but there is no known general remedy for these problems. However, in many cases the problems can be solved by doing a "clean install" as described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315
  23. The cookies names are the websites' domain names; keep all those that you regularly visit, especially those where you need to login. You need to do that, of course, before you run CCleaner.
  24. I think W8 is going the way of ME and Vista; nobody wants it. It will certainly not make it into the business environment.
