  1. What is even more strange is that after running Ccleaner with the /debug option, and getting the message above, it now opens normally every time. But anyway, I am still interested what that message means, and what Ccleaner was trying to do. Update check, perhaps? P.S. I have now disabled 'Automatically check for updates'.

    Why CC?

Before you run Ccleaner for the first time it is worth going through the list of stored cookies and select those you want to keep. This list can be very long if you have used the computer for a while without cleaning cookies. If you don't want to do this all at once, you should uncheck the Cookies option from the cleaner until you are done.
  3. Thank you for your reply. I just ran Ccleaner with the /debug switch. It appeared that nothing was happening at all, and I was just going to report that, when I got this pop-up After this Ccleaner opened normally.
  4. Really? It seems to have missed 'dosent', 'custimize' - maybe you should try SpellBound But seriously, I couldn't really get away from Internet Exploder until Google made the toolbar available for Firefox. Disclaimer: one word was intentionally misspelled; don't blame SpellBound
  5. Thanks for finding my old post. I will do as you suggested.
  6. I uninstalled again, rebooted and reinstalled. This time I did not load the saved REG file. Ccleaner starts just fine. Next I restored the saved registry entries; Ccleaner won't open any more. When checking the task manager, it just sits there doing nothing.
  7. A few weeks ago, Ccleaner (v1.26.218 on Windows XP) wouldn't open. I posted the problem here (can't find that post now), and promptly got a solution uninstall Ccleaner restart Windows reinstall Ccleaner That resolved my problem - Ccleaner worked again, but I lost all my settings. I later got additional information on how to export Ccleaner's registry settings, which I did. Today again Ccleaner stopped from opening. I uninstalled Ccleaner, rebooted, then reinstalled and restored the registry settings. Unfortunately Ccleaner still won't open. Could it have something to do with the registry settings? Here is the contents of the REG file I exported. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\CCleaner][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\CCleaner\Options]"Language"="1033""UPDATEKEY"="2005-12-05 15:52:40""UpdateCheck"="1""CookiesToSave"="amazon.co.jp|amazon.co.uk|amazon.com|amazon.de|beta01.mail.com|beta02.mail.com|borland.com|brit.fbcusa.com|ccleaner.com|cincom.com|climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk|cloudmark.com|cnn.com|com.com|dell.com|download.adobe.com|download.com|download.zonelabs.com|expedia.com|forum.ccleaner.com|forum.spamcop.net|forums.chef2chef.net|forums.dmoz.org|forums.net-integration.net|google.com|mail.com|mail.google.com|mail.google.com/mail|mailsc.spamcop.net|metropolis.japantoday.com|microsoft.com|mozillazine.org|neodigital.co.uk|neoplanet.co.uk|office.microsoft.com|passport.com|passport.net|paypal.com|simplyguides.net|sun.com|support.intel.com|support.microsoft.com|tagesanzeiger.ch|vmware.com|weatherunderground.com|web.archive.org|wunderground.com|www.adobe.com|www.adobeforums.com|www.cincom.com|www.climateprediction.net|www.cloudmark.com|www.diskeeper.com|www.download.com|www.ewido.net|www.executive.com|www.executivesoftware.com|www.fbcusa.com|www.global-dining.com|www.gol.com|www.google.com|www.hummingbird.com|www.ibm.com|www.intel.com|www.ipswitch.com|www.japantoday.com|www.lavasoftsupport.com|www.lookoutsoft.com|www.mail.com|www.mozillazine.org|www.olspamcop.org|www.paypal.com|www.simplyguides.net|www.tagesanzeiger.ch|www.wired.com|www.wunderground.com|www.zonelabs.com|yahoo.com|yourdictionary.com""MSG_CONFIRMCLEAN"="False""WINDOW_MAX"="1""(App)Temporary Internet Files"="True""(App)Cookies"="False""(App)History"="True""(App)Recently Typed URLs"="False""(App)Delete Index.dat files"="True""(App)Last Download Location"="False""(App)Autocomplete Form History"="False""(App)Recent Documents"="False""(App)Run (in Start Menu)"="False""(App)Search Assistant Autocomplete"="False""(App)Other Explorer MRUs"="False""(App)Empty Recycle Bin"="True""(App)Temporary Files"="True""(App)Clipboard"="True""(App)Memory Dumps"="True""(App)Chkdsk File Fragments"="True""(App)Windows Log Files"="True""(App)Old Prefetch data"="True""(App)Menu Order Cache"="False""(App)Tray Notifications Cache"="True""(App)Window Size/Location Cache"="False""(App)User Assist History"="True""(App)IIS Log Files"="True""(App)Custom Folders"="False""(App)Mozilla - Internet Cache"="True""(App)Mozilla - Internet History"="False""(App)Mozilla - Download History"="True""(App)Mozilla - Cookies"="True""(App)Mozilla - Saved Form Information"="False""(App)Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0"="False""(App)Google Toolbar"="False""(App)Windows Media Player"="True""(App)Real Player"="True""(App)Quicktime Player"="True""(App)Paint Shop Pro 7.0"="False""(App)Office 97"="True""(App)Office XP"="True""(App)Office 2003"="False""(App)Macromedia Flash Player"="True""(App)MS Management Console"="True""(App)MS Wordpad"="True""(App)MS Paint"="True""(App)SpyBot Search and Destroy"="True""(App)Ad-Aware SE Professional"="True""(App)Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0"="False""(App)IsoBuster"="True""(App)WinZip"="True""(App)Sun Java"="True""(App)Windows Movie Maker"="True""(App)RegEdit"="True""(App)ZoneAlarm (Logs)"="True""(App)Microsoft AntiSpyware"="True""(App)Ewido Security Suite (Log)"="True"
  8. I recently had to uninstall and reinstall Ccleaner because it stopped working for unknown reasons. After the reinstall, all my carefully tailored settings, as well as all cookies to keep were gone! I do not think that many Ccleaner users will permanently uninstall this great product. So, my suggestion: during uninstall, the user should be asked whether or not to keep the current settings. Then, when Ccleaner is reinstalled, it should be using these saved settings. Thanks for considering it
  9. Reinstalling VB runtime / reboot did not help. Installing Ccleaner over the existing installation did not help. Uninstall Ccleaner / reboot / install Ccleaner solved the problem. Unfortunately the uninstall also removed all my settings, including cookies to keep. Is there a way to save user settings before the uninstall? Anyway, thanks for the tips!
  10. Thanks for the quick reply. One question: if I uninstall Ccleaner, will it keep its current settings (e.g. cookies to keep) ?
  11. I've used Ccleaner for about a year, and I never had any problem with this great tool. But starting from today, Ccleaner sudddenly refuses to open I double-clicked the desktop icon a number of times, but nothing happened. Opening the Task Manager I found 3 occurrences of ccleaner.exe; stopped them all. Tried again - same thing. Windows XP-SP2 Ccleaner 1.26 Did I recently install something? Actually I did: Firefox 1.5, and Java RTE 1.5.0_06. Windows has been rebooted several times since then. Any suggestions?
  12. Two suggestions You can select 'Run CCleaner when computer starts' in Options > Settings. If you want to go ahead with the batch script, make sure it works. The script you have given here certainly won't work. Use cmd command prompt for testing the script.
  13. The main difference when cleaning cookies - if you do it from the browser, it will clear all cookies. CCleaner will keep the ones that you have selected to keep (Options, Cookies).
  14. Next time have the person run CCleaner before the backup.
  15. Thank you for your advice. But I'm sorry, it's not 100% clear. I do have a winapp.ini file, but no winapp2.ini file. Do I create it with the data you suggested in it?
  16. Folder C:\Documents and Settings\[...]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\7.0\Cache\Search70 contains lots of .IDX files, not too much, just a few MB. I am just wondering what these are, and if CCleaner can take care of these? I have Adobe Reader 7.0 disabled in CCleaner because I want to keep the Recent Documents list. If I enable it, will that also erase my Adobe Reader's Recent Documents (as well as the data in the mentioned folder)?
  17. Similar, but much smaller download. And much clearer when you zoom in on big cities. P.S. it can also be downloaded from MajorGeeks when the Google download site is closed.
  18. Googel Earth is currently in Beta (with a limited number of downloads). It's a great tool, and I expect many people to use it in the future. However, it leaves a very large cache file on the HD, and it would be nice if a future version of CCleaner could take care of that too!
