My website has a lot of information on cleaning malware from a computer. Sounds to me like a file is/was in use though. Try uninstalling and reinstalling in Safe Mode. Also, try to install to another directory.

Did you try the VB6 Runtimes?

Microsoft has already released a fix. I think it'd be better to get that one. It's on Microsoft Windows Update right now.

It's a problem with the session handlers and the fact that after the update, none of MySQL was checked for errors or optimized. hazelnut, after you read all of the posts you can click the link here or on the forum index that says, "Mark all posts read" and this will resolve the issue.

What sort of documents were erased? (*.txt, *.doc, etc) Are you having issues with the Recent Documents section, or is this from within My Documents? If you ran the registry Issues section, how is that causing problems with documents? Where were they located/stored on the computer?

By another computer, I mean a friend's house or even a public library, downloading the installation executable onto the USB drive. It sounds like you may have a network issue.

Try and download it from another computer, then transfer via USB.
