  1. Will this beta install the toolbar, or is there an option to opt-out?
  2. What can I say, the truth hurts? ;D
  3. I agree, it just sucks and looks terribly ugly.

    ms anti spyware

You can disable it through the program itself. It's one of the hard to find settings.
  5. Since you haven't gotten the hints I'll put it bluntly. Your posts keep getting deleted because you are REVIVING OLD, LONG DEAD TOPICS. PLEASE STOP RESURRECTING THESE DEAD TOPICS. This one has been dead since Sep 17 2005. My advice: CHECK THE DATES BEFORE YOU POST A REPLY! -- It's annoying everyone here on the forums that you keep resurrecting long dead posts. Stop now, cease and desist.

    xpy 0.9.5

Avoid it. It "closes" and disables a bunch of services that are needed for your computer to function properly.
  7. No updates here. Probably because I've been using a nightly.
  8. By the way, this isn't beta 2. It's a "Beta 2 Preview".
  9. Actually it's opinions like those that suck. A processor is a processor. There's not really any difference in them except for personal taste. Both Intel and AMD have equally good and bad points.
  10. Nah, I'm talking for the entire machine.
  11. It's 3.4GHz and not overclocked. Got it for under 2k.
  12. Too buggy and he knows it. Definitely shouldn't have been released. Bugs Before reporting any bugs try and think of and explaination why the bug occurs and don't assume immediately it's a VS problem. Here are 3 "bugs" I know of: * Black text background for checkboxes in some applications. (Application bug) * In Firefox the scrollbar glyph doesn't change color on hover. (Firefox bug) * Selecting files may make icons look green/yellow. (Windows XP bug) It's not a Windows XP bug, he just has no idea how to set up the colors for the icon selection. Hell, all these "bugs" he reports are problems with his skins, not what he blames it on.
  13. Can you post the article text of some of the story with the link? Just the link seems a tad spammy. Rogue anti-spyware vendor Secure Computer sued by Microsoft and Washington AG Posted by Suzi Turner @ 3:38 pm Lawsuits were filed today in the Western Washington US District Court against New York based Secure Computer, naming company president Paul E. Burke, website owner Gary Preston and several of the companies affiliates alleging, among other things, that their application Spyware Cleaner falsely reports spyware on users' computers and the use of aggressive and deceptive marketing techniques to mislead users in order to purchase the software. The Microsoft suit also alleges that the company used email spam and Windows Messenger pop-ups suggesting that the software was sponsored by or endorsed by Microsoft and illegally used name and trademark to frighten users. Other allegations include that the spyware scan reported normal Windows registry keys as spyware and warned that "every moment the user leaves spyware on their computer the spyware could be doing damage". Spyware Cleaner was found be unable to detect most real spyware in testing. The supposed free scan actually downloaded the program to the user's computer without notice and erased the Hosts file. The Hosts file can be used to block unwanted web sites. The lawsuit named several of the company's affiliates and noted that affiliates could sign up with ClickBank, a large affiliate marketing organization. The affiliates earned 75% of the $49.95 cost of the program on each sale. This article says: If the allegations in this case are true, Secure Computer could pay dearly. The Washington spyware act imposes a penalty of $100,000 per violation, and the company is also looking at penalties of $250 per violation of the CAN-SPAM Act, as well as $500 and $2,000 per violation, respectively, under Washington's antispam and consumer protection laws. Based on the money that Secure Computer has made off the product, (Attorney General) McKenna estimated that thousands of users have been affected and that the penalties will amount "to millions of dollars." The Washington State Attorney General's lawsuit is available here (PDF). Spyware Warriors live for this kind of news! Score one for the good guys. One rogue company down and 250 + left to go. It's worth noting that a number of the rogue anti-spyware apps listed on the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware page at SpywareWarrior.com are marketed through ClickBank as well. A list of their Computing and Internet products can be seen here. At the time I'm typing this, Spyware Cleaner remains on the first page of that list. Update: The Seattle Time story says: McKenna said today that his office wants to hear from people who have purchased the program or performed the free computer scan that the Web site offers. Those people should file an online complaint at http://www.atg.wa.gov or call 1-800-551-4636. Interesting.
  14. Nice job avoiding his question. He PMed me for the answer and got it swiftly.
  15. Very annoying. You can disable the notification though.

Well, if he doesn't want a free OS that is legal; then it's his problem. They'll bust him for using an illegal OS if it's not reported.

There are several things that work. Even some that are not entirely legal to make you get Windows Updates. I for one do not support pirated Windows, therefore I am not going to disclose any of the methods that are legal to get Windows Updates. Call Microsoft and get the issue resolved. That's the only one I will publically suggest.

Everyone thinks MS is so evil. Call Microsoft and explain what happened. Give them the full details, including everything on the manufacturer. If your friend knowingly bought a pirated OS, then he's SOL.
  19. I believe XMPlay does. You can loop one mp3/track, or the entire playlist/library. http://www.un4seen.com/xmplay.html
  20. lol, it shows that it is playing just by looknig at the skin. Though I did see a lot of junk in your system list screenshot. Maybe that's why foolbar takes more. The library works really well; though there are a few features that I like that are missing. (Like pressing next with random on and it will randomly select a new song instead of going to the next track) Btw, it also supports Winamp plugins; so you can probably fix the library through a winamp plugin too.
  21. Never goes over 3,000 K for me. foolbar2k plays all those formats "Out of the box" because it comes with all the plugins already. Why have plugins for stuff you'll never use? Balls-on accurate Plays the way nature intended 32/24-bit & multi-channel output take advantage of supporting hardware for ultimate quality Gapless output Gapless playback of all supported formats Interpolation & volume/pan ramping For output that's smoother than a baby's arse! DSP Automatic gain control (and Replaygain), 5 band equalizer, reverb, plugin support Net streaming All supported file types (including MODs and archives) can be streamed from FTP and HTTP servers (inc. Shoutcast/Icecast/Icecast2), optionally writing a copy to disk, FTP directories and HTML webpages can be scanned for playable files Track information Displays file/format information, messages/tags, and instrument/sample texts, open webpages from the texts Title formatting You decide how you want the track titles to look, title updating from 'net streams and CUE sheets Library A database of your tracks, for quick and easy access to the tracks you want to play Saved/preset settings Save settings (DSP/etc...) to be automatically used each time specific tracks are loaded, save presets for quick application at any time Disk writing Writes 8/16/24/32-bit WAV files, supports external encoders (MP3/OGG/etc...), optional automatic level normalization, dithering & noise shaping, individual MOD instrument writing Keyboard shortcuts Fully customizable shortcuts, including global hotkeys Integration Open files/folders from Windows Explorer, drag'n'drop files/folders/shortcuts/URLs, monitor the clipboard for playable URLs, drag'n'drop tracks from XMPlay into other programs, icon customization Archive plugins Archived/compressed files can be loaded just like normal files Unicode file support Support for Russian, Chinese, etc... Visualisation Compatible with Sonique plugins, also includes a MOD pattern view No installation UnZIP where you want and go!
  22. I already proved foobar takes up way more than XMPlay, even if XMPlay has plugins loaded and is playing a song with a skin fully visible.
