    Nexus 7

There are times when I hate buying technologhy. After reading the following anouncement I think I'll wait for the release of Android Ver 5.0 Key Lime Pie Google will soon unveil the newest Android operating system known as the “Key Lime Pie”. It will be the 5.0 operating system of the Android. When it comes out it will first be upgraded to the Nexus 7 and the newest Google smartphone the Nexus 4. The Galaxy S3 is not certain if it will see an upgrade of the new Key Lime Pie OS. The release date of the newest Android operating system will be in May right after Google launches its I/O Developer conference. The first phone to receive the polished Android Key Lime Pie OS will be the Nexus 5 which will also be revealed on the same I/O Developer conference. Android Key Lime Pie release date is rumored to be June 6. There is also rumblings that the Nexus 7 will also recieve some hardware changes

    Nexus 7

Question for those Nexus 7 owners please. I am considering the purchase of a 32GB model, it is my understanding that the OS version that is shiped with here in Australia is Jelly Bean 4.1 and not 4.2. I am further advised that "Gesture" the new keyboard app may only ship with 4.2 Is this correct? I am getting conflicting info from the Google Play site here in Aus.

    Home Made!

I've always considered myself reasonably hand in the workshop, around the house, in the bush, under the bonnet.................a bit of a DIY guy...........BUT!!! Take a look at this guy's effort that I came across.
  6. Well said Winapp.ini and point taken....................So now I've taken a leaf out of your book..............................Task bar gone.
  7. "Seems you've replaced the start menu with the taskbar " I suppose you are correct Winapp2.ini, I find it easier, most used apps, much quicker plus more boundary realestate since I updated to a 16:9 reasonably large monitor, remembering I also use it as a HDTV for recording/editing purposes.
  8. I for one look forward to viewing other fourm users wallpapers, so thankyou to those who do post images and here is my March desktop wallpaper image.
  9. Interesting point Andavari re CBR / ABR (I take it ABR = average bitrate) and you are most likely correct. I'll take your suggestion and produce some 800kb/s conversions. TMPGEnc 5.x not only suggests that a CBR is possible they also provide a video bitrate calculator during the options / conversion process for all generic formats available within the app. Hence my question. Audio bitrate I am using at present is 128kb/s, and thank you for your comments Andavari...........much appreciated.
  10. I regularly performed HDTV captures (H.264 Format - MP4) with my internal PCI express capture card, I then edit / remove the adverts from the capture file with TMPGEnc 5.0.5.32 SW app. Questions: 1/ What video bitrate should one use / recommend for normal home playback? 1800kb/s 2000kb/s 2200kb/s or? 2/ In general should one use a Constant or Variable video bitrate? - ie. Low action movies use CBR & High action movies use VBR Whilst file size / hard disk space is not an issue for me, my problem is that when I share my captures / movies amongst my Mates they complain about the file size. I have been using an output profile type of DivX HD 720p - 720 x 576 pixel 16:9 aspect ratio, 25fps interlaced, rate control of 1 pass CBR and a bitrate of 3000kb/s with the result that my file sizes are quite large eg. 56.2 minute capture, 84538 frames, 16:9, file size of 1.2gig DivX encoded avi file. Suggestions/input/recommendations folks would be of assistance...........thank you
  11. Verify backup image: Please see the attached PDF, hope it helps Booting from your rescue disk will let you know that you WILL be able to access the image and perform the restore process
  12. And yet another Macrium Reflect convert (free version) some 18 months ago; I took the advice of Andavari, the best thing I have ever done. As Alan_B states make sure you check/verify your backup image/files and then test your Boot Rescue CD disk so you know for sure that when the ship hits the sand you can restore all back to normal. Personally I have Macrium perform a weekly backup, my backup file size is 76.2gig and normally only takes 26 minutes. (I also have created TWO RESCUE DISKS - just in case) You can also configure daily, weekly or monthly checks for Macrium Reflect software updates.
  13. "What makes you think that I spend to much time at the Computer?"..............No side effects at all!!
  14. Much has been written about Universal Plug "N" Play (Pray) over the years, many truths and exaggerations, the following is a copy of one of the best "clear" answers that satisfied me...............it's 4 years old. What is UPnP on a router? Can I disable the UPnP option on my home network router? Do I need this? Will it affect performance in a good or bad way if I disable it? Do I use this? I only use my computer for browsing and that is it. Best Answer - Chosen by Voters UPnP is for automatic discovery of other Plug n Play devices on the network, if you don't use file sharing between local network computers, or shared printers on the network then its unlikely you will need it enabled
  15. For those who have a WDTV Live Media Player two weeks ago Western Digital released new Firmware Version 1.06.43 for the WDTV Live & 1.06.42 for the WDTV Live Plus which other than fixing several issues has finally addressed the issue of accessing/reading/playing media from HDD's larger than 2.0TB. Something I have been waiting for a while. The Release date was 17th January 2013
  16. Cosmic Calendar very interesting views, many thanks. Floods up your end and Fires down my end..............hope you are OK in your location........Tasgandy Victoria
  17. mta and those interested in the following: re fan noise from the HAF XB CoolMaster Test bench case. Have been running this test bench case now for 2 weeks and one can definately hear the fans - 3 x 120mm, 2 x 80mm plus 1 x 120mm power supply fan, one would expect to hear them however, the sound generated is not objectionable to me, It reminds me of a typical small Server noise. Most of the noise appears to come from the "standard" 2 x 120mm case fans shipped with the CoolMaster Case and I am sure they are only "el-cheapo's", so If necessary I shall replace them with a couple of Enermax Twister Bearing Silence 120mm PWM Fan http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9_510&products_id=17040 @ 500RPM they run about 8dBA Unfortunately I was not able to use/install the 200mm "top" case fan as here in Aus. my supplier I use does not offer the HAF XB case with the optional gauze top that one can fit a 200mm fan. My top is a solid "see through" top so I now have a spare 200mm fan.
  18. Brilliant work, a student with a great future.............I wonder where he or she thinks we will end up?.................well spotted Fluffy
  19. Several days ago I fitted a new 2.0TB SATA III hard drive along side my 2 year old SATA II drive (boot) and decided to spec my drives, results which I found interesting. I also ran CrystalDiskMark on a couple of older drives via USB. I will be intersted to see what difference there will be when I fit the SATA III HD to my soon to arrive Silverstone DS322B USB 3.0 SATA II/III Dual Bay 3.5" HDD Enclosure. Thank you to nodles for the suggestion re CrystalDiskMark software.
  20. Well I'm glad I bought some at Woolworths today...............it's going to be 38 Degrees C here in Aus tomorrow. Maybe I chance NOT using it tomorrow to test their theory? "It's not me!!!!! Folks"
  21. I recently used CCleaner's Drive Wiper on a 750GB SATA drive and it took just over 7 hours, so get in plenty of coffee or ................................ So unless you need to do a drive wipe for security reasons (data recovery still possible as previously stated by mta) just do a standard format.
  22. Many thanks mta for your reply. Coming from a convential desk top to a Testbed type enviroment I am expecting some increase in fan noise levels, I'll just turn the volume up, however I have taken your comments on board re 7dBA fans. I have ordered the case with optional 200mm fan for the top and 2 x 80mm fans for the rear. Only time will tell if these optional fans coupled with the standard 2 x 120mm fans and the PSU fan cause me to chase down some 7dBA's
  23. Is anyone using a CoolerMaster HAF XB case? If so what is your opinion re the noise level of the two standard 120mm - 21dBA fans as supplied with the case I have heard of several people replacing these as supplied fans after a while with 14dBA fans, they considered them to noisy! Any other comments will be gratefuly accepted as I have just ordered one of these cases
  24. Thanks Hazel also from me As I am a 32bit Win7 & XP Pro SP3 I'll stay with Ver 3.76 What hasn't Microsoft tried to buy?
  25. That's great news and thanks razz for the link, I shall send it on to all my local Aus contacts
