  1. Folks I came across this little Windows 10 trick that might interest some (assuming you don't already know about it). Record a video of an app Windows 10’s new Game DVR function is supposed to be used for recording video evidence of your most glorious gaming moments, but it’ll actually let you create videos of any open app or desktop software (though not OS-level areas like File Explorer or the desktop). To summon it, simply press Windows key + G. A prompt will ask you if you want to open the Game bar. Lie your butt off and click the “Yes, this is a game box” and various options will appear in a floating bar. Simply click the circular Record button to capture a video. You can find your saved videos in the Game DVR section of the Xbox app, or inside your user folder under Video > Captures. However a caveat applies: What hardware do I need to record Xbox game clips on my PC?Your PC needs to have one of these video cards: AMD: AMD Radeon HD 7000 series, HD 7000M series, HD 8000 series, HD 8000M series, R9 series, and R7 series. NVIDIA: GeForce 600 series or later, GeForce 800M series or later, Quadro Kxxx series or later. Intel: Intel HD graphics 4000 or later, Intel Iris Graphics 5100 or later. To check which kind of video card you have, go to the search box on the taskbar and search for “Device Manager.” In Device Manager, expand Display adapters. You always have the option to take a screenshot of your game, even if you don’t have one of these video cards. In my case I only have a GeForce GT440, so I miss out..............hey I might upgrade to a GT600 series
  2. I agree with mta as I've even install some very old 32 bit SW that did not work with Win 8.1 appears to work exceptionally well with Win 10. I also had a Graphics issue, now fixed, and even though my test PC only has 4gb of RAM as previously noted the "dam" runs like a well oiled clock. I have not come across one SW package yet that does not work. Even my video editing SW TMPGenc Video Mastering works 5.0 works. I'll most likely upgrade my Win 8.1 in a couple of months time. As mta states "worth migration"
  3. Yes folks............lets move on, I don't know about anyone else but I get enough of this stuff on TV, Radio and the Newspapers and the like..............PLEASE not here.
  4. I gotta say the driver that survived has used up at least 6 of his nine lives....................a very very lucky Guy
  5. login123 a couple of points. Reflect backup prior to the 32 bit win 10 upgrade was 10.9GB. This took about 12 minutes. I then upgraded the win 7 32 bit to win 10 32 bit. I then did a reflect backup which took longer as drive C now included "windows old" directory. This backup was 19 GB in size and took approx. 17 minutes. Then the "clean" win 10 64 bit install was done........completed then after installing my software including Macrium Reflect 64 bit, the new backup was 10.1GB in size, this only took 3.49 minutes, read @ 1.1 Gb/s - Write @ 1.0 Gb/s ( Iwrote this one down just in case someone asked lol) In all cases I was using the latest free version Ver. 6.xx 32 bit for win 7 (now no longer) / 64 bit for win 8.1 and win 10. As a matter of interest I did the win 7 32 bit upgrade to win 10 32 bit twice as I wanted to make sure that the restore worked as it was supposed to.........which it did. Hope this assists.
  6. For those like me that enjoy a "dual booting" PC, it's what one does when one retires (LOL) you might find the following article from "How-To Geek" interesting. (I'm sure login123 will) "You probably shouldn’t install Windows 10 on your primary PC. But, if you are going to, you should at least install it in a dual-boot configuration. You can then reboot to switch between your installed versions of Windows." http://www.howtogeek.com/197647/how-to-dual-boot-windows-10-with-windows-7-or-8/
  7. I hope this may be of some help to those who are not quite sure when it comes to a "clean" install of Windows 10. Make a coffee or a cup of tea (my preference) then sit back and digest the following. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ So I indeed have performed the following with excellent results Test bed PC: Upgrade my 5 year old Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz box with only 4GB of DDR2 dual channel RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT440 graphics card, Samsung SSD 840 Evo 120GB System & Apps drive. 2 additional SATA 500GB drives for data (movies, TV shows, Pics & Music). Project: upgrade windows 7 32 bit OS to windows 10 64 bit OS (the above article explains all) Briefly: I first did a Macrium Reflect Full backup, downloaded the Media creation tool, created a boot-able DVD (my old PC won't boot from a USB flash drive), installed Windows 10 32 bit, choose the upgrade path, completed the install, logged on using the same user name and password for the previously upgraded windows 7. Checked to see that the Microsoft activation had been completed, yes it had because I was connected to the internet during the total process. Now comes the "leap of faith" well it was for me however I at least I had my Macrium Reflect in my corner. Insert the windows 10 64 Bit boot-able DVD, (following the above article) saying SKIP to the "enter the product key to activate windows", then at "set up" selected "Custom: install windows only (advanced) Then proceed with the installation (follow the bouncing ball as they say). You’ll be asked for the product key after the process is finished. Just click “Do this later” to skip this part and continue the setup process. After you log into your new, clean-installed Windows 10 system, it should automatically activate itself after you connect to the Internet. If you took advantage of the free upgrade offer, it does this by checking your computer’s hardware and then checking in with Microsoft, verifying that your hardware configuration is authorized to use Windows 10. Now you can proceed to "play" with windows 10 64 bit clean install, commence re-installing all your favourite software. In my case having a NVIDIA GeForce graphics card and the "bust up" between NVIDIA and MS just prior to the 29th July, I followed the advice and downloaded the correct latest NVIDIA driver 353.62 (MS & Speccy lists it as 10.18.13.5362). Good luck and I have now performed the above on three separate similar 4 to 5 year old PC's. Mine seems to run fine with 4 GB of RAM but I'll probably look to find some old DDR2 second hand from somewhere and bump the box to 8GB which I'm sure I should see some benefit............enjoy folks, hope I've thrown some light on the subject.
  8. Back to the old days.............B & W photography............I just wished that I'd taken the photograph
  9. This may help some folks: "How to temporarily prevent a Windows or driver update from reinstalling in Windows 10" If a driver or update you are being offered is causing system crashes or instability and Windows was operating correctly prior to that update, you can follow these instructions to prevent the unwanted driver or update from being installed: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 Came across this while researching a NVIDIA graphics driver 353.62 conflict.
  10. A great loss, RIP Jules Bianchi - you will be missed by many.
  11. Sorry mta I have no idea at all. It is one of several lightening pics from the WWW
  12. No swimming tonight folks
  13. Yes mta your right, a different hardware config will most likely present a problem. In my case I've always stored all data on a separate HD to the OS and apps on another HD. In fact both my PC's have 3 HD's the third one being for movies, music and pic's. At the price of 2.0TB HD's these days I like to play safe. However I am also thinking of signing up for the paid version.
  14. Other than faster (they say) and auto verification (this only seem to happen for me on one PC and not the other) and smaller backup file................I think it's worth it, if for no other reason than to stay "up to date"
  15. For all those Macrium Reflect users out there, upgrade to Ver 6.0 now and check out some of the differences.
  16. I feel lucky so far as I've not been offered the Windows 10 upgrade yet I backup Drive "C" every day via Macrium Reflect.............always keep the last 10 backup's When it all happens, I think I'll wait 6 months to read your comments once installed Keep the info flowing folks Thanks to all for your thoughts and comments so far.
  17. And yet another good read particularly if you wish to re install Win 10 sometime in the future. How to turn your Windows 10 upgrade files into an ISO disk imagehttp://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-turn-your-windows-10-upgrade-into-an-iso/
  18. This I think folks deserves a read http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/leaked-windows-10-build-lets-you-try-out-experimental-features-or-stop-updates-altogether/
  19. Thought I would kick June off with the vehicle I would have loved to have raced in my younger days..............ah! memories.
  20. My brother is an structural engineer and sent me this........enjoy Subject: Pile-driving in Pakistan, you've got to watch this .... Don’t know about the maths – no my field but reads good If you’re not an engineer some of the calculations may escape you, but don’t worry, the video explains all the calculations in one go !! Something to cheer-up the Engineer in you. Just to put you in the picture and keep you up to date with the latest developments. Below is a link to a short video of a Pakistani pile driving construction technique! The chant is also catchy! Now, let's analyse the Engineering here: 6 men x 180 lbs = 1080 lbs static force. Jumping up and down will create a 3 times dynamic effect = 3240 lbs/jump = 1.6 ton thumps if the pile is tapered to 2 in x 2 in, cross section at the tip = 4 sq. in. So, dynamic pressure/thump at pile tip = 3240/4 = 800 psi. "Add a man" feature will increase to 950 psi, so buy the option! Increase the chant and dynamic force goes up to 5 times to bring max. pressure / thump to 1600 psi for a 7 man team. Quite good, and will penetrate hard clay and sandy soil (but not hard or rocky ground!) Pretty ingenious. Oh, the foreman is the guy on the tambourine. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/cFb0nLCKypg?rel=0

    New PC

Well done and congratulations on your Masters Degree...............you must be very pleased with your self sounds like your Wife is also pleased and proud of your efforts. On the Geek front.............the new PC sounds great............enjoy
  22. I have just removed McAfee Total Protection 2015 as it slowed both my PC's greatly, tried suggestions from their support, several configurations to no avail on both Win 7 32bit and Win 8.1 64bit. I now consider that I have wasted my money, teaches me to "trial" the software in furure which is what I am now doing with "Webroot SecureAnywhere Ver. 8.0.8.76" as recomended by my Bank
  23. I also have several portables (USB 2 & USB 3 ranging from "old" 500gb to "new" 1.0 & 2.0TB) none of these have the problem. I also use these portable HD's on several PC's using VLC & Windows media player. Both PC's use "on board" sound, is this the same with your set up? or are you using installed PCI "sound cards"?. As mta asks what models, types, connectivity etc. may give one an idea
  24. Remember your sunscreen hazelnut..............looks very peaceful. Mine's this month is unusual I think.
  25. You're right mta..................these days I think they call it a "short black"..........although my short black cups look smaller still.
