  1. For those who remember when.............................I've a collection of old movie posters so I thought i would use a few
  2. Welcome back Warlocklives...................good to see that there's life after Warlock
  3. Hey Folks try the NEW VLC weatherwax 2.2.0 player with all it's new features/highlights etc. https://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/2.2.0.html
  4. I must be lucky.............no issues here with Defraggler 2.19 on my Win 7.0 Home Premium 32bit (2 x HDD plus SSD not defrag) or Win 8.1.1 64bit (4 x HDD plus SSD not defrag). My Defraggler is the free one.
  5. Attempting/trying to locate "suspect" hardware issue's mta. My days of "mine's faster than yours" is long long long past, I'm just happy to wake up in the morning above ground......LOL Thanks Winapp2.ini I shall take a look at Passmark burn-in.
  6. Does anyone have any recommendations for: PC Load testing, CPU & memory testing, Burn-in software, HDD & GPU testing software other than the standard MS Windows SW. Suitable for running/testing newly built PC's particularly Windows 8.1 64bit boxes. I am currently using "HeavyLoad-64 & StressMyPC" software and I am looking for additional software. All suggestions gratefully received.
  7. OPPS! yes mta you are correct, thank you for pointing out my error. I should have said "personal files" only. In my case I'm only attempting to locate large duplicate files, normally very large photo and video files which is easy for me as I use one HD for System & Apps and other HDD's for Data and only perform searches on the data drives. So Jazzy my apologies for not being more specific with my opinion and thanks once again mta
  8. The duplicate file finder I use also lists the original and the duplicate files and places a "tick" in the box of the file that can be deleted if required. If you have searched for "exact duplicate" name/size/date created etc. it does not matter which one is deleted. My software app always places a "tick" in the box of the first listed one. Just to be on the safe side, I double check each file before deleting them one by one.
  9. As it's 11.45pm on the 1st day of March down under here in Aus. I wish on behalf of DennisD to start March desktops with mine; an Audi A5 in race trim..............I'm still a petrol head at heart.
  10. I've just ordered McAfee Total Protection 2015 - comes with 3 user Licence.
  11. Yes mta you are right, that amount of dollars $279.00 plus freight/insurance with a final total of $333.10 represented a big leap of faith in many reviews that I read. Not being able to easily hear/view/hands on the speakers prior to purchase is probably the only downside of living some 3 hours away from the suppliers that I normally use. Seriously mta they are worth every penny I paid and how true are your words "don't you love it when you actually do get what you pay for". By the way both of those suppliers of mine have just increased the price by $10.00
  12. Whilst I love my Movies played on the Lounge room flat screen TV when hooked up to my home theatre sound system, I do enjoy my music with the volume screwed up, heaps of base whilst I'm sitting at my PC beavering/tapping away on the keyboard, so I decided to shout myself a birthday present...........hang the expense. For those interested in "BIG sound" check out The Corsair SP-2500 PC Speaker review at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVSuYaeFW70 I reluctantly retired my 6 year old Logitech Z4 which have served me very well over the years. Well after unpacking the huge box that arrived, reading the instruction booklet that came with it (first time I've ever done that), BUT I just wanted to make sure as these puppies were not cheap, especially for this "Ole" retired gent. Well I can honestly say that I'm not disappointed with their performance, they lived up every inch to the review from the Wide Screen Gaming Foundation (see above link), they are outstanding. One nice sensible touch is the "Desk control" that it uses, apart from performing all the necessary programs/EQ'q etc. you can "power on/off" from your desktop. The only down side that may apply to those who do not have a lot of room in and around your PC is that the Sub-woofer is very big. This was not an issue for me. http://www.corsair.com/en/gaming-audio-series-sp2500-high-power-2-1-pc-speaker-system
  13. I'm reminded that "there are no free lunches"................and what is the real value of something being offered for free?
  14. Thankfully both my SSD's are Samsung brand. 1 a 840 Pro and 1 a 840 EVO - 1 in my Win 7 rebuild and 1 in my 3 month old Win 8.1.............however what I did notice was that the price difference between to two units (both the same size) purchased 7 months apart was 18% i.e the latter was 18% cheaper than the first SSD. I wonder if the latter will self destruct 1st.? One wonders what price they will be in 5 years time? probably $25.00 each......lol
  15. Looks like my place before I trot out my ride-on mower.................looks very peaceful Hazelnut.................is that your "weekend hideaway?"
  16. Thanks for that................BUT "where are you DennisD" here's hoping that your OK and just on a holiday/studying/cooking/working hard............etc.
  17. Because this link refers to both Software & Hardware I thought it best to post it here in the lounge. Hope this is correct if not can someone with authority move it please. Grab a cup of Coffee and have a read: http://www.techradar.com/au/news/software/operating-systems/windows-10-release-date-price-news-and-features-1029245 Look for: Step into Microsoft's new Office, Bill Gates's not-so-little secret, Windows Phone users get a sneak peek, Microsoft reveals something huge, ... and something intangible
  18. Maybe just maybe the person that select's the Windows version numbers is related to those that decided NOT to have "level 13" in many building lifts lol...............perhaps a relationship between the number "9" and "13" lol Another thought is that the person that thought up Windows ME (release version No.4.90) had a hand in it! why call it "ME"................ah who knows lets face it there seems to be no rime no reason for the official Windows Names and corresponding Windows version numbers: Name Release date Release version number Editions Windows 10 TBA NT 10.0[1]TBA Windows 8.1 18 October 2013 NT 6.3 Windows 8.1 Windows 8.1 Pro Windows 8.1 Enterprise Windows 8 26 October 2012 NT 6.2 Windows 8 Windows 8 Pro Windows 8 Enterprise See Windows 8 editions Windows 7 22 October 2009 NT 6.1 Windows 7 Home Basic Windows 7 Home Premium Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Enterprise Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Thin PC See Windows 7 editions Windows Vista 30 January 2007 NT 6.0 Windows Vista Home Premium Windows Vista Business Windows Vista Enterprise Windows Vista Ultimate See Windows Vista editions Windows XP Professional x64 25 April 2005 NT 5.2 N/A Windows XP 25 October 2001 NT 5.1 Windows XP Starter Windows XP Home Windows XP Professional Windows XP 64-bit Edition Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (8 July 2006) See Windows XP editions Windows ME 14 September 2000 4.90 N/A Windows 2000 17 February 2000 NT 5.0 Professional Windows 98 25 June 1998 4.10 Windows 98 Windows 98 Second Edition (23 April 1999) Windows NT 4.0 24 August 1996 NT 4.0 Windows NT 4.0 Workstation Windows 95 24 August 1995 4.00 Windows 95 Windows 95 SP1 (31 December 1995) Windows 95 OSR1 (14 February 1996) Windows 95 OSR2 (24 August 1996) Windows 95 USB Supplement to OSR2 (27 August 1997) Windows 95 OSR2.1 (27 August 1997) Windows 95 OSR2.5 (26 November 1997) Windows NT 3.51 30 May 1995 NT 3.51 Windows NT 3.51 Workstation Windows NT 3.5 21 September 1994 NT 3.50 Windows NT 3.5 Workstation Windows 3.2 22 November 1993 3.2 Simplified Chinese only Windows for Workgroups 3.11 November 1993 3.11 N/A Windows NT 3.1 27 July 1993 NT 3.10 Windows NT 3.1 Windows 3.1 April 1992 3.10 Windows 3.1 Windows for Workgroups 3.1 (October 1992) Windows 3.0 22 May 1990 3.00 N/A Windows 2.11 13 March 1989 2.11 Windows/286 Windows/386 Windows 2.10 27 May 1988 2.10 Windows/286 Windows/386 Windows 2.0 9 December 1987 2.0 N/A Windows 1.04 April 1987 1.04 N/A Windows 1.03 August 1986 1.03 N/A Windows 1.01 20 November 1985 1.01 N/A
  19. Hey Folks it's the 7th of Feb down under here in "good ole" Aus.................here's my effort
  20. "Free" upgrade for my old Win 7 box and my new Win 8.1 box! Hey they've captured my interest. HOWEVER.............what's the catch? I've yet to come across "a free lunch".............someone always seems to have to pay! AH maybe I'm getting cynical in my old age. lol
  21. It surely does remind one "that it's a wonderful world" and to those Aussie's out there "Happy Australia Day" 26th January 2015
  22. Now back from Christmas/New Year holidays so I thought I would start the January ball rolling with an "oldie"
