  1. Does lightening strike twice? let's hope not with this lot.
  2. Well the truth is "I'm a goose for even trying it"
  3. hazelnut I can see trium's first post, the October desktop and the second post I get to see both the desktop image and the link which works for me....................."the unexplainable is alive and well" just like the family movie "Tomorrow land"
  4. Just opened Speccy and unfortunately it's not there, and you're right it would make easier reading.
  5. Well folks we know Christmas is only just around the corner because it's time for "The October Desktop" Let's see if we can muster a few more desktops than last month.
  6. Thanks for the info mta & hazelnut, Never mind it's "all well that ends well"....................
  7. Yahoo...........I'm back! Hey there folks, for the last 2 days and nights I've had my account suspended and I have no idea why? No warning and from memory my last post was in connection with "data removal". The attached is what was on my screen on both PC's and my so-called smart phone. Does anyone have any ideas? Managed to log in this morning thankfully.
  8. Back when I was in the workforce, the company I worked for regularly traded in various computer based equipment, PC's, input/output devices etc. and in all cases traded units from the Defence Department never included any hard disc drives or RAM. These items were removed prior to hand-over to my company and incinerated.................completely destroyed. This is the only way to permanently delete/destroy data.
  9. Good one hazelnut however, both my Daughter and Son sometime duck for cover when they hear that "ole modem connect sound" as I use that as a notification of incoming e-mails on my phone.
  10. hazelnut I to have a Win 7 PC that despite not opting to upgrade to Win10 still shows it as an "update available" whenever I check for my normal Win 7 updates. I do not have "automatic updates" turn on...........it is turned off. When ever I need to download a normal Win 7 update I need to be very careful to de-select the Win 10 upgrade and only select my nominated Win 7 updates. However my "$Windows.~BT" folder still appears and contains 2 sub folders, "DUDownload" 59.5MB and "Sources" 86.2MB. These folders I'm guessing are created when one originally "reserved" the Win 10 upgrade prior to July 29. Also Interesting I find is the similar folders on my standard Win 8.1 upgrade to Win 10, "$Windows.~BT" 1.1GB and "Windows.~WS" a whopping 5.78GB Again all these folders are hidden system folders/files. Important message to all: Create your backup's regularly...........I myself praise Macrium Reflect every day.
  11. "Ah that music"..............those were the days............no no, not the name of the music folks, just "those were the days". Now my 26 year old Son says up[on hearing this music states "Oh come'on Dad enough is enough"
  12. mta you are correct, "once one has performed a standard conventional upgrade" and activation has been completed, then if one performs a "clean install" of Win 10 (as I mentioned in a previous post) automatic activation is completed via the MS data base activation servers when on-line. This I have done several times now. I read the post by Dereck891 as a method of performing a clean install "skipping the upgrade process entirely". Correct me if I'm wrong Derek891 By the way mta I took your kind advice and installed Oracle VM VirtualBox SW on a Win 7 PC then installed Win 10 (which was activated as I logged in with my MS account). I have noticed that Win 10 running in a VM runs much slower in my case. Anyhow thanks for the suggestion.
  13. Now that's what I call a "backyard Pond".................and I thought I had hidden the keys to my "holiday Estate"!!
  14. Well folks we are now one step closer to Christmas.....................it's now September, time for "The September Desktop" Let's see if we can do better than last month.
  15. As a "desktop short-cut" user I found this article very interesting, hope others do also. How to open various Settings pages directly in Windows 10 http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-open-various-settings-pages-directly-in-windows-10/
  16. mta.............you're probably right, it's just that "dual booting" brings back memories of having fun with Windows 3.x and learning to use IBM OS2Warp (showing my age now) I was even a member of an OS2 users club in back in 1992.............ouch!!
  17. Hope this link assists regarding "windows old" folder, how to delete, why is it there and: But, don’t wait too long — Windows will automatically delete the Windows.old folder to free up space after a month. (from the howtogeek article) http://www.howtogeek.com/223821/what-is-the-windows.old-folder-and-how-do-you-delete-it/ By the way my "Windows old" folder (Win 8.1) is a massive 17.8Gig and Win 10 is only 13.1Gig
  18. Many thanks hazelnut & mta for the advice. Yes hazelnut page 62 certainly made interesting reading. However I was not sharing HDD, my Win 8.1 was a SSD and Win 10 installed on a SATA III. Normally I never use Hibernation on desktops but after reading those posts I'm not sure about "fast start". For the time being I'm running Win 10 as an normal textbook upgrade from Win 8.1 and that is running very well with no issues. I'll get back to testing the new 1052 Build via the insider prog. perhaps next week.
  19. Well folks, a minor issue with my Dual boot Win 10 & Win 8.1. Every time I reboot back to Win 8.1 (from either a warm or cold boot) Win 8.1 states there is something wrong with my Drive "F" (where my Win 10 lives, this is a separate/stand-a-lone HDD) and proceeds to scan/repair the drive, no if's or buts, (no option to say no) therefore slowing my boot back to Win 8.1 greatly. Never seems to find or report fixing a problem. I've put up with this "scanning Drive F and finding nothing" now for just over a week, I have not yet been able to find out why so, "to the rescue Macrium Reflect" now I'm back to Win 8.1 for the time being. Thank you Macrium Reflect.
  20. Regarding Dual Boot Win 10 (clean install from a USB flash drive) and Win 8.1 64 bit OS, I have just successfully completed this install BUT I did not follow the instructions that I had referred to in an earlier post of mine. Upgrade from Win 8.1 first so that activation/CD key details from the legitimate Win 8.1 can be stored on the MS data server. So after performing a clean install of Win 10 on a separate HDD with the Win 8.1 SSD HDD still in place and finding out it was NOT possible for activation to take place I needed to eat some humble pie and first commence blowing this clean install away and preforming my Win 8.1 UPGRADE to Win 10. Following this step I am pleased to say that the activation took place as it was supposed too. I am also pleased to state that the Dual Boot Win 8.1 & Win 10 are both behaving themselves. In my case I am using the Boot Manager provided by my motherboard manufacturer to select the OS I wish to boot. Perhaps my documenting mistake may save someone some installation time.
  21. I don't believe you login123, I reckon this is your office door and you created this sign to stop the Lady of the house from entering and "tidying up" your "man cave - come office"
  22. Is this the URL that you are referring to: http://www.howtogeek.com/197559/how-to-install-windows-10-on-your-pc/
  23. For those interested: How to install Win 10 on a Mac!! http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/how-to-install-windows-10-technical-preview-as-a-virtual-machine/ Not sure why but for those with time on their hands!!! Forgot to say there's a video at the bottom of the page.
  24. hazelnut sorry if I gave you a bum steer but I'm not logged in to my MS account (well not to my knowledge) however it works for me...........well I get as far as it telling me I do not have the required hardware. I'm also not an Xbox person, not sure how one logs into Xbox (best ask my Daughter I suppose). Apologies once again.
  25. Not at all hazelnut simply: ~simply press Windows key + G. A prompt will ask you if you want to open the Game bar. Lie your butt off and click the “Yes, this is a game box” and various options will appear in a floating bar. Simply click the circular Record button to capture a video. You can find your saved videos in the Game DVR section of the Xbox app, or inside your user folder under Video > Captures Give it a go and see what happens.
