  6. For those interested: "Intel's 14nm revolution: why you should care" http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/intel-s-14nm-revolution-everything-you-need-to-know Intel's 14nm manufacturing technique. The Broadwell-Y (Core M) products are a little slower than older chips but use far less power, allowing for the latest in super-thin, light and sometimes passively cooled (no fans) machines. Meanwhile Broadwell-U (Celeron, Pentium, Core i3/i5/i7) chips provide a boost in performance for little to no increase in power consumption.
  7. Thanks Derek891 for the heads up and your URL links make interesting reading particularly as both my day to day PC's both use AMD Radeon Graphic cards. My existing stand-a-lone Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (on loan to a UNI student with a broken laptop) uses a NVIDIA GeForce GT440 graphics card and this Version runs like a dream. It's a almost 6 year old MB & box, Intel core 2 quad 2.8GHz, 4.0GB of DDR2, resulting in Ver 14.04 LTS flying from DVD At this point in time I have only tested Ver. 16.06 LTS from DVD (USB created but not tested) with not so good results as it seems to take forever to load up from DVD. Once loaded seems to run OK but I have only worked it for some 30 minutes so far. The PC I'm testing it on is only a 12 month old build, mid range Gigabyte MB, i5 Quad Core 3.5GHz CPU, 8.0GB of DDR3 RAM and a Sapphire AMD Radeon R7240. So I'm expecting it to operate much faster however I may be living in dreamland.
  8. For those Ubuntu users/followers out there read on then follow the link: Ubuntu hasn’t had the best reputation among Linux users over the past few years–with some even going so far as to call it “boring”. If you’ve been hesitant to try it out, then hold on to your seats–Ubuntu 16.04 “Xenial Xerus” is not only an exciting release, but one that has the potential to be a game changer for the Linux ecosystem. http://www.howtogeek.com/251647/ubuntu-16.04-makes-ubuntu-exciting-again/ Think I might upgrade my ole favourite 14.04
  9. Oops!! not sure what happened to the start of April but............I missed it.................Ah well better late than never. PS: as they say "good help is hard to get these days" lol
  10. Again for those interested I received this information from "how-to geek" this morning - via Windows insider preview program http://www.howtogeek.com/248177/whats-new-in-windows-10s-anniversary-update/ Maybe more things to worry about and update!!
  11. From Windows Insider Program: "We just wrapped up our annual developers conference, Build 2016 – where we introduced some great new Windows 10 features." "Build 2016, it was stated that in the eight months since launch, Windows 10 is off to the fastest start in Windows history, with over 270 million active devices, outpacing Windows 7 in the same time frame by 145%." https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/03/30/windows-10-anniversary-update-brings-new-experiences-and-developer-opportunity/ Makes for interesting reading.
  12. Screen grab showing 3 partitions selected.
  13. Andavari I originally had the same question so I tested it on my test PC which was a Win 10 32 bit Test box, Did this when Win 10 first arrived and prior to running on my main box. I did it both ways, drive C only at first, then with all the partitions that Win 10 creates. I aslo did a restore of both, , honestly I'm not really sure of the the different final result, I could not or did not experience any issues. However the time between both backup/restore exercises was only 2 days and all I did was some basic internet work, TV capture/edit & conversion. Did not run into a problem. I have since blown that OS away to mess with other OS's. So when it came to my so-called "mission critical" box I elected to follow the Macrium Reflect default backup regime and include all of the 3 partitions created by Win 10. The only step I missed mentioning in my post the other day was that I did do a "verify" prior to the restore. I even backup my test box once a week as data storage I maintain is very cost effective.
  14. Once again Macrium Reflect has saved me. The short story version is that a situation created by yours truly, saw me have to perform a "Restore" earlier this morning. Reaching for my 8.0 gig USB stick (which replaced my restore CD - which I still retain just in case), I commenced the restore operation. This time I decided to copy down some specific information for those who may be interested i.e. size and time taken. My PC is a desktop unit, i5 cpu, 8.0gig RAM 3 HD's with Windows 10 - 64 bit - drive C is a 120gig Samsung EVO SSD - standard upgrade from 8.1.1 to Win 10 - I have Macrium Reflect (free version) perform a "Full" backup of drive "C" daily at 4.00pm - Windows explorer shows me that the last daily backup .mrimg file size is 40,740,967 KB. Once booting from my USB flash drive and choosing which backup file to use for my restore from the Macrium Reflect menu I proceeded as directed. By the time I had made my coffee and got back to the PC I caught the Macrium Reflect dialogue box whilst it was performing TRIM which read the following: 1) System Restored - 257.4MB/350.00MB 2) System Apps © 48.23gig/111.01gig 3) Performing TRIM Now the Restore has completed the reported time taken to perform the restore was only 12 minutes & 49 seconds. Thank you once again Macrium Reflect.
  15. Now that comment hazelnut is truly clever.............and very sharp............you must have had tacks for breaky
  16. An excellent sense of humour is a must these days and remember folks...........a good laugh is very healthy and good for the constitution.
  17. The year of 2016 rolls on folks so please share a new desktop image of yours with us. This night time photograph of Hobart - Australia was taken by a Mate of mine 2 years ago - enjoy
  18. I suppose I'm lucky, as so far so good with no issues with Malwarebytes (free version) on my two PC's Win 7 & Win 10. I've just updated the database to v2016.02.17.07 - running on Anti-Malware 2.2.0.1024 Yet another reason for "layered security" perhaps?
  19. I have to say that the X Files was magnificent and a "must" watch TV series many years ago here in Aus. I'm led to believe that re-runs are being considered here in Aus. Good luck. I agree with Andavari, too many re-runs at a high cost. For us SiFi lovers there are so many excellent SiFi TV series for us to spend our cash on: shows such as The 100, The Expanse Stitches, Limitless to name a few. PS: I still have a usable X Files mouse mat - it's dated 1996 (apologies for the poor Mobile phone pic.)
  20. The year moves on...........it's February already. Come on folks show us one of your favourite desktops
  21. Man o man please send some down here into Western Victoria, hope the impending winter storm doesn't cause to much damage. I thought that Christmas had come again yesterday as we got 18mm of rain in 3.5 hours, now that makes a total of some 23mm of rain since last January............a 2015 that is............bit dry don't you think, seems to either be a famine or a feast. Good luck to those in it's path, TV coverage down under indicates you're in for a big one.
  22. Surprising that the warning notice is only a "voluntary recall" and that one might be careful using it for the next little while. Microsoft says You'll have the chance to order a free replacement cable starting on January 22nd. Microsoft hasn't said when you can expect to get it in the mail, but it's safe to say that you'll only want to use your existing cable only as much as necessary until the newer, safer model arrives.
  23. Good news and many thanks hazelnut for the heads-up. Somewhat a shame that one is requested to "Reboot" I thought those days were in the distant past...............never mind our PC's a super quick these days.
  24. nukecad I'm using Win 10 64bit "Home", file explorer is pined to my taskbar, I am selecting "date created" then "date modified" from the column heading as I have always done going back as far as I care to remember, many OS's ago. XP/2000/NT/Server 2008, it's only Win 10 that is giving me issues. I may be forced to do a "reflect" restore. I generally (no always) lose the settings when I log off/warm restart/cold start. Interestingly I do not have this issue on my Win 7 PC. Thanks for you comment I'll keep looking before I do a restore which is not an issue as it only takes 14 minutes.
  25. Ok this may only be a small issue but it bugs me continually. I like to store my movie titles by "date created" in Win 10 explorer (right hand pane) not by "Name" alpha ascending/descending. No matter how many times a reset the dam thing after closing and re-opening File Explorer it always reverts back to sort by "Name" alpha, even if I move the "date" column to the first column in the RH pane. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm ding wrong or how to force Win 10 to remember my personal setting? I've done some Google searching on this subject and there are a few out there with the same issue but no one seems to have an answer...........help please
