  1. The backup .reg files if imported "may save you from having to re-install Windows." If you've already re-installed Windows I wouldn't use those backup .reg files at all, since after all you're starting fresh without issues.
  2. You need to give more info: * CCleaner version you're using * Windows Operating system version, and is it 32-bit or 64-bit * The web browser causing the issue (note that Chrome issues have been reported for months) -------- Maybe the browser is still running. One thing to check is make sure you haven't disabled warning messages in CCleaner, the setting for it is in: Options > Advanced: 'Hide warning messages' That way if part of your browser is still running CCleaner can at least warn you about it, and that the cleaning will be skipped.
  3. When I make installers nowadays I no longer include a Start Menu link since the uninstall can be accidentally clicked - this of course has nothing to do with CCleaner, just sayin' from Nergal's post.
  4. I regularly run ChkDsk on my removable media (only flash drives here though) only because if I leave them plugged into my Sony PS3 and turn it off with them still plugged into it that will sometimes causes errors that ChkDsk can fix. If only Windows (any version) would be much more specific about problems, and Event Viewer can be a fountain of no useful information sometimes.
  5. How are you trying to have it automatically close? Via the checkbox/setting in: 'Options > Advanced': Close program after cleaning -or- Via the command-line: CCleaner.exe /AUTO
  6. A dead cause I'd think that will go absolutely nowhere, since it's already been explained that Piriform have their own official portable edition available.
  7. I wonder since the Monitoring was running if that by chance causes it to not fully uninstall - I personally don't know because I use the portable edition. My guess is what login123 mentioned in the above post about reinstalling it may be necessary, especially if the uninstaller has been ran already it may not exist on your computer anymore. What I'd do: 1. Reinstall CCleaner, get the Slim build here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds 2. As soon as the install finishes bring up Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL), and kill/stop any CCleaner.exe or CCleaner64.exe processes that you see are running. 3. Go into Windows Add/Remove in the Control Panel, wait for the list to populate, and uninstall CCleaner from there. 4. Reboot your computer.
  8. If it's by chance the CCleaner Monitoring that you want turned-off here's the instructions to fully disable it in: * CCleaner Free * CCleaner Professional
  9. The .doc format is not a proper image format for the forums, therefore I've removed it. You can re-upload your screenshot (savable using Paint) in one of the acceptable formats: .GIF, .JPG, .PNG
  10. The last time I had Norton AV was in 2000-2001, I bought it off Amazon.com for around $20 dollars back when there really wasn't too many good free av's around, I think it was ok back then to the point I even became a member of their forums/support site. It really didn't impact that Win98 system that much but I do remember it having a bug that was difficult for Symantec to fix that would reset the computer clock and it would get progressively worse over several days - so about every 2-3 days the clock would have to be reset manually to correct the time.
  11. What a shame, crap quality ones I downloaded. Oh well.
  12. Off topic however that sounds just like my late Vietnam war veteran uncle, he talked about having to eat such things when in Vietnam.
  13. Only thing though dvdbane we were instructed to not offer any support for it. So don't get upset if another mod or an admin removes your post - I'll personally leave it alone.
  14. Where'd you download CCleaner from? The amount of damage you've explained sounds like a possible malware infection.
  15. ..and the really bad thing is it won't schedule files to be deleted/removed on restart - something which could've and should've been implemented many years ago. It was a suggestion I posted in the Staff area just hoping CCleaner could be made to delete files on reboot - it needs that ability. One suggestion is undo the delete from the Recycle Bin then use a freeware tool that can delete locked files such as Unlocker, or Malwarebytes FileASSASSIN. I won't recommend HijackThis for removal since some people have reported it hosing their Internet connection - probably from improper usage, etc.
  16. I always forget about Archive.org, I've gotten a ton of videos and albums off there over the years - and the cool thing is it's legal and legit. Appreciate the link for the cartoons you provided Hazelnut, I found several classic Superman cartoons in MP4 which I hope are compatible with my Sony PS3.
  17. 100 GB removal? If I were you I'd play it extra paranoid safe and not trust anything going by mere filename or filesize alone! You may want or need more security to keep your originals and I'd highly recommend having a tool that can compare the checksum/hash of those files (in particular at least MD5 or SHA-1) such as the free Nirsoft HashMyFiles, etc., that way you'll know if you're actually removing a duplicate or not because some files can share the same filename and not be a duplicate at all.
  18. CCenhancer isn't supported on these forums being that Piriform deem it an unofficial add-on. You could remove CCenhancer and see if the problems continue, or as mentioned previously in the topic input an Exclude into CCleaner in 'Options->Exclude'
  19. Since you bought a license you're entitled to support from Piriform. You can submit a request at: http://support.piriform.com
  20. Try something else. Do a cold boot: Shutdown, wait at least 30 seconds, and then start your computer. Some issues can live through a reboot/restart such as hardware issues, etc.
  21. Try these instructions, although over the past several months many people have reported issues with Chrome remembering their history.
  22. CCleaner by default only cleans the drive Windows is installed on. However you can use 'Options -> Include' to direct it to clean other files or folders - see here: http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/using-ccleaner/including-files-and-folders-for-cleaning
  23. I'd run ChkDsk on that system, and then use a recent System Restore Point to undo changes - especially undoing registry changes if any were made.
  24. My PS3 will be my main console/set-top-box system for years to come!
  25. A screenshot of your Firefox settings in CCleaner might help allot. I'm thinking you'd need to tick 'Saved Form Information' or 'Saved Passwords' - but it's been ages since I've messed with the Firefox cleaners in CCleaner to know for sure.
