  1. I wouldn't jump the gun based upon the original posters name, being it's a valid question and hasn't spammed anything.
  2. Are there any other forum members who also use Avira Free Antivirus and have any of you noticed for approximately the past two weeks that it will sometimes not update - neither automatically on its own nor when manually invoked by you? Today it won't update at all for me. Thinking my installed version must have some corruption or error I did the usual: 1. Uninstalled Avira Free Antivirus. 2. Rebooted the computer. 3. Manually removed all the leftovers on the hard disk and in the registry that I could find. 4. Reinstalled Avira Free Antivirus, and it still won't update, so all that was for nothing. The failed update log contains information about: * No Internet connection - when I am in fact always connected to the Internet. * Mismatching checksums of locally installed files on my hard disk compared to those on the Avira update server. * The failed update log also states I have the incorrect operating system - but why would it install perfectly fine then I wonder. Talk about a triplet of failures. I guess I'll give it perhaps three days maximum, then I'm going to switch to a different antivirus software. Edit: Well it isn't just me having the issue. Avira Support are starting to get failed update complaints posted and I've also posted in the topic linked below on their support page (so anyone else also having this same issue it's worth adding your information to it so this update failure can get quickly fixed): https://answers.avira.com/en/question/avira-free-antivirus-update-failed-32578 Edit 2: More people are stating the same. Somethings went really buggy in version 15.0.8.650 (dated 25 Feb 2015).
  3. Please refrain from copying something I've written in the past!!!
  4. If you're using XP SP2 have a read here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=43027&p=260079
  5. You may want to look into the community winapp2.ini file here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=32310 It's also relatively easy to make your own winapp2.ini cleaners, or course this is assuming the portable software is stored on the local disk such as what PortableApps.com software does by default in: C:\PortableApps
  6. If you're using the winapp2.ini file or CCEnhancer remove both of them and then see if CCleaner works. If CCleaner still doesn't work: 1. Uninstall CCleaner. 2. Restart Windows. 3. Reinstall CCleaner.
  7. We aren't suppose to allow posts or mentioning of rival products, however what I have below could be a sort of warning with BleachBit: I stayed with BleachBit v1.2 because newer versions are incorrectly targeting the C:\Windows folder on my XP SP3 system such as .DLL files, etc., i.e.; newer versions would break my Windows installation so I don't dare use any newer version of it.
  8. I know it's just a suggestion however; CCleaner only works by default on the system drive (usually C:\) so for USB Flash Drives and External HDDs it wouldn't even bother scanning them for anything to remove.
  9. See if any of this helps: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=5739 In particular don't name the downloaded file ccleaner.exe
  10. See if any of this helps: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=5739
  11. The thing with Firefox is during uninstall it will ask if you wish to keep your profile or remove it. If you keep the profile CCleaner may still detect Firefox as being installed.
  12. I don't see it at all Hazelnut.
  13. Some antivirus' will automatically block double extension files!
  14. That's not the one I was referring to, it's this topic here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=43012 Piriform are fully aware of it, see one of the admins post here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=43012&p=259868
  15. This is a known issue since another user reported it.
  16. Although you didn't state you use Internet Explorer I wonder if the cookie could be from it, if so perhaps give Nirsoft IECookiesView a try to see if it finds it associated with IE. There's also a version available for Firefox called MozillaCookiesView. Can't forget cookies can be written into the Windows registry.
  17. There's also the chance that CCleaner is incorrectly detecting the cookie, I've had that happen before when a cookie didn't exist in the browser or in Adobe Flash Player - CCleaner eventually stopped detecting it in my case.
  18. There's several Nvidia cleaners in the community winapp2.ini file. If none of them clean that folder perhaps post in the winapp2.ini topic and maybe someone will make a cleaner including that folder -- if it's safe to clean.
  19. I saw it on the news this evening. Not too many of the original Star Trek series cast is still alive.
  20. To add what Nergal stated you also want to avoid getting the drivers from the Microsoft Update website which always seems to want to install display drivers.
  21. I prefer 2.1 speakers for music myself, the Altec Lansing speaker system I got at a bargain price under $100 USD have surround speakers that I never even took out of the packaging. And you're right about big subwoofers, they have a large footprint.
  22. Please refrain from using all caps, it's considered shouting and is difficult to read. You're correct SP3 has bugs, although every Windows version ever released has bugs. The issue could be because of SP2 being used, I can't begin to think of a software that still claims to fully support it.
  23. Other web browsers leave stuff behind too, so it isn't just Chrome. What's annoying is when they leave themselves registered as the default system browser, usually running IE and having it re-associate itself as the default before attempting to install a different browser (such as Firefox, etc.,) will flush them out of the registry in that situation.
  24. It's been almost a year since you requested the feature and my sentiments are the same as yours.
  25. Welcome to the forums dsmultimedia. You aren't the first to report this problem with CCleaner 5.x. Seems serious to me so I've made a post in our staff area where an admin should see it, and I linked to your topic.
