  1. Interesting name, well not really for the media player with a traffic cone icon, just saying.
  2. I've moved this to the Bug Reports forums.
  3. To continue with Nergal's above examples: Use a file hash/checksum tool such as NirSoft HashMyFiles (freeware), or some other one that you prefer. Make sure at the very least that the MD5 or SHA-1 are 100% identical. When in doubt leave stuff alone you aren't sure about. I personally think this is a dangerous shoot yourself in both feet tool that's integrated into CCleaner which was unfortunately requested by some users. If you aren't diligent with insuring what's a duplicate and what isn't it can be very damaging. For instance completely leave system files like .DLL, OCX, etc., well enough alone because messing with them will eventually break something important either an installed software, drivers, or Windows itself and regaining a minuscule amount of disk space isn't worth the trouble deleting the wrong thing can cause. Edit: In fact, I'd stay completely away from the Program Files and Windows folders altogether!
  4. Indeed it is. Even though CCleaner has what many of us have considered as a gentle non-aggressive registry cleaner it could still cause issues on some systems.
  5. Another good thing about Macrium Reflect Free Edition is you can mount the backup image and copy files from it as if it were another hard disk drive -- I've restored a corrupt program that's non-resident doing that before without having to reinstall it. I also backup to a flash drive using a separate backup process that I 7-Zip my backup into, and about once per year burn a DVD-R with setups, backups, etc., that I want to keep.
  6. That really shows don't use IE on an older OS like WinXP, only use 3rd party browsers which still update for the OS.
  7. I don't know. Perhaps try the portable build of CCleaner and unzip it into its own unique folder to see if it works. Also might help to look at your anti-virus, anti-malware, and firewall logs to see if they're blocking CCleaner.
  8. You can go into CCleaner and click Options->Include and then input the new path to clean, although it probably isn't going to clean as good as the normal built in cleaner.
  9. Probably best to stop the Automatic Updates service if using Drive Wiper or Wipe Free Space. If I use Wipe Free Space I always stop the Automatic Updates service - although it would be nice if CCleaner could automatically do this for us and possibly also stop other interfering services or programs.
  10. In the future it would be a good idea to get a free disk imaging/cloning software (allot of us on here use Macrium Reflect), that way you can restore to a fully function system with your programs already installed without having to "refresh/reinstall" the OS.
  11. The version you had previously, was it a very old version from years ago? Only ask because that PortableApps.com topic from 2005 shows them registering those .DLL files for some reason. Those .dll and .ocx files as long as I remember going back to 2004 when I first started using CCleaner have never been installed by it.
  12. Time to backup everything that's important like family photos, music, etc., onto other media and/or another hard disk then. The disk error checker ("ChkDsk") can be ran to check for bad sectors - but before messing with it I'd backup everything important first. Edit: We posted near the same time. I'm glad to see you've got a clean bill of health as for that corruption. As for being unable to import the backup .reg file I don't know and will let someone else chime in on that - although it has happened to other CCleaner users before with no real solution that I've seen come forth.
  13. Maybe those are embedded into CCleaner.exe - not that we'd know though. And a mention of them in this PortableApps.com topic from 10 years ago in 2005: http://portableapps.com/node/151
  14. If you have a recent System Restore point available that was made before using the registry cleaner you can use it to fully restore the Windows registry.
  15. Since the op never returned, and since we're thinking along the lines of it possibly being spammer related this topic is now closed.
  16. Someone just suggested this the other day here. Moved this topic to the suggestion forum.
  17. I wouldn't jump the gun based upon the original posters name, being it's a valid question and hasn't spammed anything.
  18. Are there any other forum members who also use Avira Free Antivirus and have any of you noticed for approximately the past two weeks that it will sometimes not update - neither automatically on its own nor when manually invoked by you? Today it won't update at all for me. Thinking my installed version must have some corruption or error I did the usual: 1. Uninstalled Avira Free Antivirus. 2. Rebooted the computer. 3. Manually removed all the leftovers on the hard disk and in the registry that I could find. 4. Reinstalled Avira Free Antivirus, and it still won't update, so all that was for nothing. The failed update log contains information about: * No Internet connection - when I am in fact always connected to the Internet. * Mismatching checksums of locally installed files on my hard disk compared to those on the Avira update server. * The failed update log also states I have the incorrect operating system - but why would it install perfectly fine then I wonder. Talk about a triplet of failures. I guess I'll give it perhaps three days maximum, then I'm going to switch to a different antivirus software. Edit: Well it isn't just me having the issue. Avira Support are starting to get failed update complaints posted and I've also posted in the topic linked below on their support page (so anyone else also having this same issue it's worth adding your information to it so this update failure can get quickly fixed): https://answers.avira.com/en/question/avira-free-antivirus-update-failed-32578 Edit 2: More people are stating the same. Somethings went really buggy in version 15.0.8.650 (dated 25 Feb 2015).
  19. Please refrain from copying something I've written in the past!!!
  20. If you're using XP SP2 have a read here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=43027&p=260079
  21. You may want to look into the community winapp2.ini file here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=32310 It's also relatively easy to make your own winapp2.ini cleaners, or course this is assuming the portable software is stored on the local disk such as what PortableApps.com software does by default in: C:\PortableApps
  22. If you're using the winapp2.ini file or CCEnhancer remove both of them and then see if CCleaner works. If CCleaner still doesn't work: 1. Uninstall CCleaner. 2. Restart Windows. 3. Reinstall CCleaner.
  23. We aren't suppose to allow posts or mentioning of rival products, however what I have below could be a sort of warning with BleachBit: I stayed with BleachBit v1.2 because newer versions are incorrectly targeting the C:\Windows folder on my XP SP3 system such as .DLL files, etc., i.e.; newer versions would break my Windows installation so I don't dare use any newer version of it.
  24. I know it's just a suggestion however; CCleaner only works by default on the system drive (usually C:\) so for USB Flash Drives and External HDDs it wouldn't even bother scanning them for anything to remove.
