  1. If WinPatrol is conflicting with CCleaner,it will help us to know exactly which version of WinPatrol you were using.A Post to them from you would also be a good idea.Popular software developers do their best to avoid such conflicts and a fix is usually made very quickly. Thank you for your reply with all this good info. davey P.S.If you were or are using Norton and possibly A-squared then the conflict can also be caused by more than one real-time security program being run in the background. See this link and also see his other links (buttons on the left) Great info from a Professional and another honored Moderator on our forum.Too see a list of our great Global Moderators and other honored Forum Moderators click on MY ASSISTANT at the top of this window. http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/rridgely/freesoftware.htm You must have some security program startup immediately!!! This is important !!! For now you may not want to run CCleaner automatically at startup and run it manually until the conflict is resolved. If you have to turn off security, run CCleaner when you are off the net. Then immediately turn security back on.
  2. Hello Guys (Trooper,Guest_Jim_*), Explore C:\Program Files\CCleaner Look in winapp.ini and you will find what apps and what files are being cleaned.Look in the Code list in this link and you can setup your own winapp2.ini to clean what you want. You have to maybe PM each other or put out the word in a Post.I bet Twisted Metal may already be working on this.If not, maybe a courteous request would help. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1110 Good Luck, davey
  3. Hi Brad3152, This is baffling.Maybe Murphy"s law has struck and you are the victim. I haven't heard any other reports like this. Since you say you are a complete novice,I am going to try to simplify as much as I can. First thing you need to do is find out if your disk has filled with one big file or many copies of the same file.We are going to use the Disk Defragmenter program to help.We are just going to Analyze. Defragmenting now would be a waste of time. You can use "Defraggler" program also to do the same thing. Do the following.Left click Start.Right click on MY COMPUTER,LEFT click on MANAGE. On the left LEFT click on Disk Defragmenter. Now LEFT click on ANALYZE.This may take awhile. When it finishes Analyzing a box will appear.LEFT Click on View Report. LEFT Click Save As and save it on your Desktop..(If using Defraggler RIGHT click on the report screen and Left click on save list to text file.) You can scroll down the Most fragmented files report looking for a file with many segments and many MB or Gigs. This way you find the monster file.Write down its name and path.DO NOT DELETE ANY FILES until you communicate with us.If you created many copies of a small file, we will have to deal with that differently. Cut and paste that report and send it in your reply. If it too long send it as an attachment or a .zip file. Second thing is to answer some questions. Did you run CCleaner with no other programs running? Did you have any problems downloading CCleaner? Did you run the Cleaner function only? Did you change any options? What Browsers, Security programs do you use? Enough for now.We will be looking for your reply. Good Luck, davey

    Help, overwrite

You can try Recuva to get that original file.28 pages is worth the effort. If you do ,don't forget to change the name.Don't want to lose the other 3 pages. Good Luck, davey P.S. Learn from this.Make your names more unique.
  5. Hello SteveyB, This is very interesting. Thanks for your feedback. Since Temporary Internet Files is one of the main files to be cleaned with CCleaner ,this definitely needs to be looked into further. Can you provide your OS version, other browsers and more info on the "favorites" you are reporting. Thanks again, davey
  6. Hello Greg, There must be a good reason you had this "scare" and came out on top this time. I thought it might benefit you and many other Firefox/Mozilla users by applying the information found in the following thread. The complete thread is valuable for all Firefox users. It will save you alot of time, money and head-aches in the future. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=95910 Please apply one of these simple back-up procedures ,NOW !!! Best Wishes, davey
  7. Lars, Have you tried running them? I think they are still in the C:\Program Files folder. Use them, click on their icons. What happens? davey DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING. Do not use CCleaner until you understand what each function does. Exit CCleaner without using any buttons. Now use your tools like you do normally. Your tools programs should run properly.
  8. YES,Thanks for the feed back. You are very observant. The figures are different and change per user. Index.dat files are a MS creature that you can't make go away. They are needed to keep IE and therefore the Internet functioning in a timely manner. You give me cookie,I give you cookie. You mark my cookies for deletion.I make new cookies. davey
  9. Hello again, Try this link and and look up "L" for log-in. She has many links to other MVP"s. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm davey
  10. Hi hannubys, Those Advanced options you mentioned are best left alone until you do a little more research and learning. They are not needed that often but are need by "heavy" advanced users. Do some "searching" on the forum and the net.Start out simple search on "Vista" in the forum.I refer you to this Post for more info. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...amp;#entry96299 Search at those sites and you will learn alot in short order. Then GOOGLE search and find the popular tech advice sites. YOU DO NOT DO REGISTRY CLEANING ON AUTOMATIC.It's tricky enough as it is.It is risky business for those who don't know enough to get out of trouble.Unless you can afford to be without your PC for awhile. I mean this in the best way. Best Wishes, davey Thanks for reporting those files. Can you provide file paths etc.
  11. It has been about 2 hr 30 min. since your reply and I don't see you logged on the forum. When you are there stay logged on so I know you are there. I am going to ask some more questions but I still need you to explain as much as possible in another reply after you answer these questions. I believe what you have told me.You sound like a very conscientious person.I know you are extra cautious due to the language difference also. What makes you think that your tools are gone or missing? From what you have told me so far,the news sounds good. If you had Deleted those tools then the icons would most likely be gone also. If you look in the All Programs list on the Start menu do you still see them listed?. What happens if you try to use those tools? Do you see your tool programs listed in the Uninstall list of the Tools function in CCleaner? I am hoping that there is only a misunderstanding related to what you read and what you were seeing in the CCleaner windows.Especially the Tools window where it lists all the programs in the Program Files. The Cleaner function is the default window when you you begin. The Analyze button is clicked and the Cleaner will begin to look at the data to be cleaned based on the check boxes. It will show a list of what has been selected for deletion. The Run Cleaner button is clicked to clean out what has been Analyzed. It will display a list of what has been deleted. The Registry integrity function is used to "clean" the Windows Registry. This is for Advanced users. The Tools function is also for Advanced users. This allows for the Uninstalling ,Deletion,or Renaming of programs in the Program Files. It also helps the user delete some processes from running at Startup. The Options function allows for selecting special features of CCleaner. davey
  12. OK Lars, Hazelnut's motto is "try to stay calm".On the forum we all listen to Hazel. Stay calm. Take some deep relieving breaths. Now you clicked on the CCleaner icon and the Cleaner window opened up on the screen. Look at that screen again in your minds eye. What did you do next and then what happened?Just take your time and try to recall the order you did things and then what happened. It's that easy.OK!!!. I am tired but I'll stay here until you or I says we must do other things. Calm and relaxed? I am. davey
  13. Hello BEARGER, Below is the proper path and location of CCleaner's uninstall program. Is it still where it belongs? (It may be Hidden.) Do a search on "uninst.exe" and see if it's been copied, moved,or dragged and dropped into another folder by mistake. C:\Program Files\CCleaner\uninst.exe Fill us in as to what you find, please. Best Wishes, davey P.S. Do the same thing for Recuva. It's more likely that is where the problemi is. See if you find Recuva uninst.exec in the Outlook Express folder.
  14. Hello hesten, When you say helpful tools are gone,do you mean Icons are missing from your Desktop or Start menu? If the Icons are gone, we can help you. Are the programs still in the Add or Remove Programs window of Control Panel? If the programs are gone, you must restore them from your back-up CD or DVD or other back up. YoKenny is suggesting some new tools for you if you don't have a back-up available. He can help you find new tools to replace the old ones. However,I am worried that you may have UNINSTALLED or DELETED many more programs. I hope you thought that you were just testing tools. Good Luck, davey
  15. Hello kensync, Maybe this will help. Just be sure you look in that folder and make sure you don't have any other games in there. I am not an Expert, yet. You can become an Expert also.Read and learn.Make some mistakes. Read and learn how to correct your mistakes.Don't make those mistakes again. All of a sudden everybody is calling you an EXPERT!!! I am sure it works the same for other versions. Good luck, davey If you are not sure what to do,just come back for more help.OK!!! Are you planning to play against your Dad or the computer? Give him a big hug for trying.
  16. I was not sure if you saw this post script or not.The earlier link may not have been correct.Try it again. davey P.S. I also found this thread. Does this apply to you also? If so fix in next version or change numbering display for now.I know it may not be acceptable but an alternative just the same. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...amp;#entry94338
  17. Hello pfge, This is the first time that I have heard of this. Something may have happened during the download of the new version. Did you try downloading the new version again? Does the same start up problem happen again? Can you copy the exact messages you get for us? What kind of security programs do you use?Winpatrol version? Any other security programs? Thanks for your help, davey
  18. Hi again, Please let us know the percentage of compaction you got from running NTREGOPT.Also the old size and the new size of your Registry. What are the specs for your computer? What OS, Browser, security programs and other applications used i.e. Photo Shop,iTunes etc. This info may be important to help improve your performance. What a "deal" to get you connected to the rest of the planet and the universe.I would say so. If our grandparents could see us now !!! davey
  19. EXPERIENCED ADVICE NEEDED REGARDING HP UNINSTALL !!! I also had loads of unneeded HP software that was pre-installed on this computer.. Seems to me about 500 - 600 MB worth of useless stuff for our needs. We installed another HP printer 3 years later with a little CD.All we needed was the driver for the new printer. I just uninstalled all the HP stuff at one time. This helped next defrag to get more important stuff closer to the edge of the disk. Here is a link to HP.All you have to do is plug in the Product id at the top of the page. This should help you uninstall most of it. It is always best to use the manufacturers uninstall method as this has a greater chance of removing related files and reseting the Registry. Do that first then you can CClean OPTIONS to get rid of the rest.I haven't used it yet myself. It may be advisable to wait awhile longer because I know there other members who have uninstalled HP also. http://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/search?...&submit.y=6 I too have only 256 MB of RAM.That is why I set off on my quest for more PC knowledge. If you are not careful, you may end up a "techie" or even a "Geek". Then you will go off and build your own SUPER PC. Andavari's suggestion is excellent also. It helped my computer and evey little bit helps. Get ERUNT and NTREGOPT installed and used.Run ERUNT first then NTREGOPT.They are simple and fast. Please let us know the percentage of compaction you got from running NTREGOPT.Also the old size and the new size of your Registry. What are the specs for your computer? What OS, Browser, security programs and other applications used i.e. Photo Shop,iTunes etc. This info may be important. davey
  20. Yes,I have seen it before during testing v2.04.543 when the "bug" first showed. Are you also saving your settings to .ini file? Are you checking both boxes? Some just check IE but I check both even though I don't use Firefox. It shows most often when users Analyze ,Run Cleaner and then repeat. The boxes take you down a different program path where the totals are handled properly. The false figures vary according to user. Try some different options settings and see what happens. Of course, this should be cleared up soon with a new version. Good Luck, davey P.S. I also found this thread. Does this apply to you also? If so fix in next version or change numbering display for now.I know it may not be acceptable but an alternative just the same. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=94338 Did you get your internet connection working on that computer?
  21. Hello daggerXtreme, It's been awhile since I was trying to get rid of it.Try unchecking Fast User Switching. davey
  22. Hi Augeas, Don't forget sometimes Recuva is used to recover files. Keep up the good work, davey
  23. Hello beatlebryce, If you are using CCleaner v. 2.04.543 . In OPTIONS > ADVANCED do you have the boxes checked to Show detailed log of Internet Explorer Temporary files .Also the box for Firefox/Mozilla temporary files. There is a known "bug" that causes confusion. Good Luck, davey
  24. Hello pcbugfixer, If you are referring to the advertisements on our website.Be assured that we don't like them either. Economics and budgeting force most free forums to allow some form of advertising to help pay the bills. However,we need to know what and when 'bad" advertising is being displayed. Thanks, davey
  25. Crapped out here, also. Sure like JD's gift.Wonder how far it can go in 30 minutes.
