  1. They are indeed special. And amazing, and many more positive adjectives etc.
  2. Hello EternallyYoung, New Users Advice The Registry Integrity feature and the Tools feature of CCleaner are for more knowledgeable users. You have a very "dear" friend. They may not want to tell you so but maybe they know you are not yet "techie" enough to be changing the Registry. For most users this statement is true. The benefits do not outweigh the risks, worries and possible problems involved. This statement is not true for more knowledgeable "heavy" users who are forced to become "techies" due to the way they use their computers. Unless you are extremely tight on disk space,it is not necessary to Uninstall or Delete any Programs. However, some software must be uninstalled to get rid of it.This is mainly security type software or malware type programs.Do so only with experienced help and proper back-ups.. NEVER DELETE OR UNINSTALL ANYTHING THAT YOU DON'T KNOW WHY IT IS THERE. ANYTHING!!! NEVER INSTALL, DOWNLOAD OR ALLOW ACCESS FROM ANY WEBSITE THAT YOU HAVE NOT CHECKED OUT. Use of CCleaner Cleaner function, ERUNT, NTREGOPT ,and Windows Disk Defragmenter program is sufficient to maintain most users PC's. ERUNT and NTREGOPT are valuable programs for all users. This link is to the authors website. It is safe. http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/index.htm Read all the links there. To install just click on SERVER1,2, or 3 on the left side. This installs a complete package. If you install it use all the "default" settings and locations. Also select AUTOBACKUP for ERUNT unless using Vista. P.S. EDIT July 19,2008 Due to complications in Vista it is advisable to only do manual backups with ERUNT. Weird names but invaluable programs. When was the last time you compacted your Registry? NTREGOPT does this and initial results are amazing.Run this only when you are ready to immediately re-boot. When was the last time you defragmented your disk? This can speed up your computer if it hasn't been done in awhile or especially if it's never been done.. The Windows Disk Defragmenter can be used by > Start right click My Computer > Manage > Disk Defragmenter. If the program says you don't need defragmenting then don't.If the program says you do need defragmenting then do it only when you don't need to use your computer for awhile.Like any maintenance programs Cleaning or Defragmenting are fastest and safest when they are the only program running. Running maintenance type programs at the same time as other programs invites disaster.Turn off any security programs and it will run faster if necessary.Remember to turn security programs back on when finished. CCleaning should be done as needed. For most users 1 or 2 times a week. ERUNT is best run daily. NTREGOPT and Disk Defragmenter maybe 1 time a month. I refer you to another Reply I made to another member if you desire to learn more. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...amp;#entry96299 Some malware programs can also slow down your computer but that is another topic. Running more than 1 anti-virus program and 1 firewall can also slow down your computer. http://internetrotsyourbrain.com/rridgely/freesoftware.htm Read his other Posts(Buttons on left) Best Wishes, davey
  3. Thanks Giacomo, You are a very righteous person to come back and fill us in on what actually happened. I have done some "accidental" file or folder moving myself, more than once.I suspect that this has happened to other users reporting similar problems. Windows is amazing that it can keep things going without hanging up your system until you get things ironed out. Remember CCleaner is depending on Windows programs to do the bulk of the work. When it gets error message or flags from Windows,it doen't know what occurred. Your honesty in this matter will help others to resolve similar reported problems. Best Wishes, davey

    secure deleting

Hello novis1, JDPower, Augeas and other members have been doing extensive testing of the "new" feature of secure deletion in Recuva.Future versions will be deleting even the header records and file names of such files. You may be thinking that since Recuva stills shows the file as recoverable that the data has not been overwritten.Testing shows that it has been.Your case may be an exception. If you are still concerned, I suggest you also read this thread and see JDPower"s alternative solution in Post #8 of that thread.Read the compltete thread. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showto...2&hl=ERASER Future improvements to Recuva will eliminate the need for such drastic steps. ERASER program does initially take several hours from what I have read but this may be the only way for you to feel secure. Thanks to all the members who have devoted their time and effort to test and suggest improvements to this feature in the Recuva program. Best Wishes, davey Just another member of the forum
  5. Hello granny6, Please provide more info. OS, Browser, security software, etc. Hanging using which function?. Try using an option or two at a time to see which option causes hanging. What did you do and then what happened? Good Luck, davey
  6. Hi Matthew, Sorry to hear that you couldn't Restore. Most users have a better result with ERUNT. Yes, ERUNT and NTREGOPT both handle Vista. http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/index.htm Read all the links there. If you install it use all the "default" settings and locations. Also select AUTOBACKUP. ERUNT,NTREGOPT,CCleaner Cleaner function, and Windows defraggment are programs that all average users need. I don't have enough personal experience XP versus Vista. You might want to do some searching on the forum in this regard. You will also probably get more info in this current thread from other experienced users. I do know you want a relatively powerful computer to benefit from Vista. Will your current computer handle it? Good Luck, davey
  7. Thanks Hazel, Another way, I have no problems if I click on the upper black portion of "snapshot". I can get right through to Image Shack image but not if I click on the "snapshot" image itself at Piriform. davey P.S. I see you have the original Post #5 image back now.
  8. Hi again, If your computer is infected with a "virus" you need this link also. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=11000 Also link to the other links provided there. (RED COLORED) Best Wishes, davey
  9. Hello spyneedhelp, New Users Advice I am a relatively new CCleaner user myself. You seem to be quite the curious type. That's good and bad at the same time when it comes to the Windows Registry. If you are new to understanding the internals of Windows, then I would recommend not using the Registry issues fixing function of CCleaner until you learn more. This is an advanced feature of CCleaner. The average user doesn't have to do this, just use the "default" settings that come with CCleaner and only use the Cleaner function. The Registry function and Tools function should only be used by more advanced users. I do recommend that you bookmark the following links to "search", read, learn, and understand. http://www.ccleanerbeginnersguide.com/ The first place to use is the "Help and Support" feature on your Start menu. This will help you find information related to NEW WORDS and TERMS. I.E. Regedit, .reg files, Registry, Registration Entries, Install, Uninstall etc. Words and terms you can't find there can be found in Wikipedia. This is probably the best and quickest way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Searc...arch=&go=Go More detailed and technical data can be found at MS. http://support.microsoft.com/ http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 You can always "search" the forum also. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ode=adv&f=0 Search Engine You may already know much of this information but it will also help other new members. Good Luck, davey
  10. Hello mamafowler, Wow!! What a fix to be in!!! When you ran Recova, what was the input drive and what was the output drive? Do you have any back-ups?Especially of your personal data? I know it sounds pretty ominous but at least you may still be able to get back some of the personal files. Stay calm and let some of these experienced members mull this one over. Best Wishes, davey
  11. Hello niccociaopiaggio, Yes,a picture is worth a thousand words. I must use snapshots more often myself. I think all your paswords did get deleted at some point. Since you don't have the option checked to " Prompt me to save passwords" in your AutoComplete Settings in Internet Options > Content > Settings your passwords are not being saved. I have always kept that option checked. Try checking that option and see what happens. Best Wishes, davey
  12. Thanks Tarq57, This gives us a good idea of your test. How was this folder or individual files (5) set up for deletion.Include option? - Drag and drop 1 folder or 5 files? Drag and drop into a Temp file? Please be specific. What Cleaner options were selected? How long did the Cleaner take to run. What was shown in the Deleted files report? All this information may help get a fix in the next version of CCleaner. Thanks again for being an active member of the forum, davey
  13. Matthew , Remember you "may" a have a corrupted Registry. However ,it could be OK. Follow the advice of JDPower, other Power Members or Moderators. One step at a time. When you respond give as much info and detail as possible of what you did and what happened. Each reply. Good Luck, davey P.S. My main thoughts are can you do normal running of your programs? I remember your comment that you are going to do a full security scan shortly. That is a good thing to do at this point. How long have you been using your current security software? Don't try to do any kind of repair without talking to us.If you get all "Nervous" on us you may do something without understanding the consequences. Do you use ERUNT or some other program to back up your Registry completely? Do you have System Restore feature turned on? The Windows default setting is "on".This creates Restore points that you can return to in case of problems. As long as you have a complete Registry back-up or System Restore Point you should be able to restore your Registry to a point in time prior to these problems occurring. Is CCleaner v2.04.543 your current version?
  14. Hello mozer, In my spare moments I did alot of searching myself. Basically it comes down to that name being mentioned in relationship to games.Mythic Hero type name "ABNON". Anybody you know possibly put a game there?A game called abnon. Some friends, relative kids, etc ? When you look in /PROGRAM FILES/ do you see "abnon" there. Is it hidden? Don't accidentally double- click it.We still don't know what it is.RIGHT CLICK IT and select PROPERTIES . What shows there,Size, FILE type etc. Especially DATE CREATED ,any comments, other tabs. This info may help you determine what it is. I haven't heard about any listing "quirks" that the development team may have left behind. Not out of the question though. The most popular other use of the term "abnon" is medical related.Ring any bells? Worst case is it is some sort of malware and should be handled in a way that somebody like "rridgley" should be consulted. You don't want to Execute it or Open it. That's the best info I can give you at this time. Hope it's just a development left-over "bug" or a game.. Good Luck, davey
  15. Hello Tarq57, Please explain how you did your testing. You must not forget that CCleaner does not clean or secure delete files that have already been deleted by some other program. It only secure deletes files that it CCleans.CCleaner was never designed to look for deleted files. That function has been relegated to Recuva which will completely erase deleted files based upon user request. This is currently being tested and developed with member assistance and improvement suggestions being cosidered. Eraser" erases files that have been only previosly deleted. All designed to perform different functions. Regards, davey P.S. This is not to deny that problems may exist, but to help explain some of the complexities involved in this testing process. Your testing efforts are very well appreciated by the developers and other members involved with this testing process.
  16. Hi cashtonh, I am no Expert. If you will expound on how you created the original "clone". Then how you "cloned" "D" back to "C". It may provide enough information for a more experienced member to propose an explanation. Best Wishes, davey P.S. I would be interested what the corresponding statement in your CCleaner.ini file says. BackupDir=C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents. Other members with OS on their "D" drive(partition) may be interested also. You may have a solution to answer their inquiries.
  17. Hello mxzaffino24, I am thinking you are using CCleaner v. 2.04.543 . In OPTIONS > ADVANCED do you have the boxes checked to Show detailed log of Internet Explorer Temporary files .Also the box for Firefox/Mozilla temporary files. There is a known "bug" that causes confusion. I am not sure this is as you described but may be the fix in your case. The Windows Tab and Applications Tab should be considered as 1 long list of options. When you click Analyze they are all Analyzed in one pass. You do not have to use "Analyze" or "Run Cleaner" for each tab. Good Luck, davey There are some Issues that are reported by CCleaner Registry scan that other scanners also show but neither will "fix" the issue.
  18. Sorry Matthew, I meant to say anti-Malware software. I was also in a rush to tell you not to delete any back ups you may need to correct this problem. You need to avoid doing any of the things I listed until this problem is resolved.Your Registry may be corrupted. What you are reporting has not been reported by any others to my knowledge. This is unusual. I did not want you to cause any data loss because of a possibly corrupted Registry or further complications. Have you done any Registry edits or applied any "Tweaks" lately?. Do you know if any "unsuccessful" updates, installs or uninstalls have occurred? I would not do any more Issues fixing until you found out the answers to these questions. davey P.S. I am not familiar with any conflicts that Avast might cause. If it runs in the background it may be causing conflicts. Some security programs don't like "seeing" a lot of Registry changes being made.
  19. Hi, From your first post I take it that you deselected Autocomplete Form History.Yes,OK. Are we talking about IE passwords or maybe passwords stored in cookies? What are your AutoComplete Settings in Internet Options > Content > Settings? Are you saving cookies to keep at Options > Cookies in CCleaner? What happens to these passwords if you uncheck Cookies under Internet Explorer in Cleaner options? Do the passwords still get deleted? Also what version of CCleaner were you using prior to this problem? davey
  20. Hello again irfner, You took off before I had time to reply.Your "rig" looks like a good "ride" to me. Were you able to get the prior version re-installed? Are you downloading the old version correctly from FileHippo? Did you get in contact with the Win 98 user YoKenny recommended at Calendar of Updates . You can link there from YoKenny's reply. Have you checked with other Win 98 users on the net? We need this feed back to get this problem fixed for you and other Win 98 users. Edit. Are you saviing all settings to .ini file? See OPTIONS > ADVANCED. Create a copy of your CCleaner.ini file. This way you have a copy of your "cookies to keep" settings. Then use IE to delete all your Cookies. Then try CCleaner again.Don't delete that copy until this problem is resolved. Keep us informed. Best Wishes, davey
  21. Hello Billy R, Thanks for following up on your original Post. Can you provide some more specific info as regards the Firefox cookies you are reporting as not showing in the CCleaner cookies list? Also OS and version,CPU,Browsers, security software etc. The more info you provide can help resolve any "bugs" sooner. What actions do you do and then what happens? Thanks, davey
  22. Hi niccociaopiaggio, What was the last version of CCleaner that you used? To avoid a known "bug" please Check the boxes at Options > Advanced to show detailed log for IE and also the box for Firefox/Mozilla detail log. Also check the box to Save all settings to .ini file. This may make a difference depending on the last version of CCleaner that you used. Also a similar problem may be corrected by de-selecting Adobe Flash Player in Applications tab under Multimedia. Please provide information as regards OS and version,Browsers, security software etc. Try those settings and let us know what happens. Good Luck, davey P.S.If you use Firefox, the current CCleaner v 2.04 is now successfully deleting Firefox cookies for users with special characters in the users name. You may now have to make sure that certain cookies be saved.
  23. Man,what a beating!!! Not possible.Cut and Paste trickery!!!
  24. Hello Keithuk, The more a wise person knows the more he realizes how much more there is to know. The only certainty is change. I suggest you tick the option to save settings to .ini file in CCleaner Options > Advanced.. To get a more complete picture tick all the options there are in CCleaner. EXIT the program without doing anything. Now look in CCleaner folder for CCleaner.ini .It may be hidden. Now run CCleaner again and set all the settings as you want them. Exit CCleaner. Now look into that CCleaner.ini folder. There are all your settings neatly sorted. Copy that and use it on the other computer. PORTABLE . No need to mess with the other computers Registry. davey Thanks to JDPower for his advice and extensive experience. Plus thanks to all the Moderators and Power Members for their advice and assistance.
