  1. I thoroughly understand Robert. I had the privilege of using the Apps. set up on this computer for 3 years without ever being allowed to get down and learn more about what was going on inside. I was only allowed to use the Start menu to Turn off Computer. Talk with you later. davey
  2. Hi phc, I am assuming you are referring to Windows temporary files. There has been discussion about this in the past.I have not found any substantive explanation of what exactly is supposed to happen and when. It does seem that when you access anything in the files then the date demarcation goes down the tubes. It may even be the related to action of looking at these files.A possible "bug" but who knows. Just be sure there is nothing in there you want to keep. Then turn off the 48 hr option and in most cases I have seen the data comes tumbling out within a few days. I have also seen where a sub-folder has been corrupted and had to be manually deleted to get things right again. It seems once these "problem" files get set straight then CCleaner maintains them very nicely. They usually show up when someone is using CCleaner for the first time. They can be data files, cookies, history files, temp files etc. what have you. Most new users come to use CCleaner because they are having some sort of problem and they hope a good CCleaning will get things right again. Most times it does and sometimes it doesn't because they have more than a "bloated" computer problem. One thing you can do is copy them to back them up then see what happens when they are gone. Also back up the Registry with ERUNT before deleting them. Good Luck, davey

Hi Dennis, After a little more thought and investigation I come to realize that you need to uncheck anything related to Firefox/Mozilla in your Applications tab when you are doing this reduced cleaning task. Turn it back on when you want your Firefox/Mozilla files cleaned. You might want to do this for other Applications as well.It is up to you. Good Luck, davey This helps avoid many problems also. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1504 P.S. For you and all other users out there, the better and more detailed information you can provide will help to solve your problem or a "bug" much sooner. Thanks Dennis, your detailed information helped solve your problem.

Hi again Dennis, Thanks for your information. The list of questions sometimes supplies information that turns out to be relevant in solving a users problem or assisting the "debuggers" in tracking down a "bug". As you know sometimes a "bug" only occurs under certain conditions. I have heard of various "cookie" related problems. This maybe a new one or related to a combination of selected and unselected options. Since the INI file settings take precedence over anything else selecting this option "may" help. If it does, we would sure like to know about it. Your Post and your supplied information is very important to us other members also.We do appreciate your membership participation. It helps to improve and maintain the quality of such a basically needed product as CCleaner for all PC users. Keep us informed. You may see changes related to your Post in future versions. Best Wishes, davey
  5. Following YoKenny's link you may also find that some sites plug-in their URL into your Recently Typed URLs. I discovered this in the past using some other tools. I'm making a list and checking it twice like Santa.I am surprised and not so surprised by those doing this.I really don't appreciate them doing this!!! davey
  6. We should celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day more often. Like maybe once a week at the minimum.
  7. Hello Simon, Yes, very impressive. Most of your questions can be answered in the Guide. P.S. Start with latest Guide. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=1504 Maintenance type programs should not be run with other programs running, especially other maintenance type programs such as defragmentation, disk optimizers or software updates. CCleaner is designed to do more frequent maintenace chores. Other Piriform products should be investigated also as regards your suggestions. Good Luck, davey
  8. Hello daba. When I first started to read your Post I figured your previous version would be 1.4xxxx. But 2.04 is the the last version prior to 2.05.555.I haven't heard of other users noticing a speed change between the two. To speed things up a "little" some users turn off Start menu shortcuts and Desktop shortcuts under System cleaning options on the Windows tab. Some more Applications areas are being cleaned in the v2.05.555 than prior versions also. The Options > Advanced options Show detail log of INTERNET Temporary Files for IE and Firefox can be turned off to save 1 or 2 seconds. The Options > Settings Secure Deletion should be set for Normal. Yes, the whole processing procedure takes a certain amount of time whether you are cleaning .5 MB or 50 MB. The new feature to display what is being processed was to satisfy an outstanding number of requests to do so by the users of CCleaner. It is a benefit to all users. Follow Andavari's instructions at this link to install an older version. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=96555 The latest version of CCleaner v 2.05.555 is the stablest and best I have used. Older versions have more "bugs" and less features. It is your decision. Good Luck, davey
  9. Sorry Guys, I never had the opportunity to use Stage6.After reading the closing notices and user pleas I'm sure it is a surprising loss to the DivX fans. davey
  10. Hello Allen42, Yes, sometimes it is best to exit IE 7 or those entries are still going to be there until you restart IE 7. davey P.S. Forgot to say some things can't be cleaned by CCleaner while IE 7 is open. It's always best to run maintenance type programs when no other programs are running. CCleaner is a maintenance type program.
  11. Dennis ,Please!!!! You trying to give all of us Yanks a heart attack!!! Mothers Day here is May 11,2008. davey HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY !!!!! Especially you Hazel.

Hello Dennis, Same old questions I always ask.The data helps evaluate your problem. CCleaner version ? 2.05.555 OS and version ? Browsers and ver.? Security software and ver? Other data you think might be relevant? What did you do and then what happened? Provided in Post 1. Do you use the Options > Advanced Save settings to INI file ? Thanks, davey
  13. Never been there myself. Many fine art lovers recognize this "whiz" kid. davey
  14. Hi RetiredBob, Good for You and good for all of us. Although the program "Folder Lock" was not "active" it's effects were active. It was preventing access to your Drive. This info will be of help to advise other users with similar problems. Thanks for your reply. davey
  15. Hey Tarq57, Thanks for testing so soon. How many files were in that folder? Two? The first in the directory unrecoverable and the last recoverable or vice-versa? davey
  16. $20 Million estimate? What Federal idiot estimated that? That's enough to make me use questionable language like other mild mannered members when they get PI**ED OFF. davey P.S. They called him a computer "whiz".His victims have other ideas.

Hello Novis1, We don't even know if you are the father worried about what his son may find on the computer? You could be the son.You can have any reason. As you can see deleting previously recorded data can be very complex to remove. You have received some excellent advice from some very experienced users of Recuva,Eraser, and Revo. JDPower, I know, has much experience in using these products. He is especially experienced in the use of Revo and Eraser. If he recommends Eraser I would use that product. If you have other reasons not to use those products, then all I could recommend is to wait for Recuva to mature to the point of being able to delete the remaining traces of that file.In my testing of Recuva I could not secure delete a partially overwritten .jpg file until one day it worked. In the future I am sure they will be able to even remove the file name etc. .It takes time to develop such software.Piriform is very methodical and safe in the development of their products as far as I have seen. In the meantime you can do as others have suggested and fill up your hard drive as much as possible.Sooner or later those remaining clusters are going to be overwritten.Depending on the size of your HD this could take some time.Of course you could put 20 to 50 movies on it. This thread is now too long. As you can see it all comes down to your decision. Good Luck, Davey
  18. Hello Targ57, I didn't mean to leave you the impression that there was any "official" members project as regards secure deletion in CCleaner. At the time of your testing there were other members doing testing and reporting their results. This testing reporting does help the development team find specific and "bugs " that occur under circumstances that they can not be expected to test. Our feedback is important especially after new versions are released. Have you had time to do any tests in this regards since the last release? v 2.05.555? Have you noticed any improvements in secure deletion performance.I heard that they planned to include wiping or changing of the original file name. I don't do as much daily volume cleaning as you do. I am sure they wouldn't mind getting some more feedback. Thanks for your past testing reports. davey
  19. Yes,Robert, It certainly does give me a better picture. Be back to you later, davey What OS and version,Browsers, firewall, and security programs do you use? Review your Start Menu and Task Bar Settings and note and reset any settings that need to be. We could put some things right .You say that you did not do any Registry cleaning.Correct? Check C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs. You may want to copy whole folder to C:\Documents and Settings\ROBERT or Administrator\Start Menu\Programs .Then Review and Delete or Save what you wish. This will give you comprehensive All Programs list. PERSONAL Experience tells me that someone accidentally turned on all the Advanced cleaning options. Make sure all these options are unchecked before running the Cleaner function. Also OPTIONS > ADVANCED Save all settings to INI file must be checked.
  20. Then it's a live and learn thing. davey
  21. Hi Robert, You can answer my questions by answering right after the question in your reply. When you say "the nearly full window of programs has shrunk to one small list."do you mean your Desktop or what??? You can create new short cuts by right clicking on the icon in the Explorer window and selecting Send To Desktop. This will not move the Program but it will create a new short cut icon on your Desktop. Are you using Start > All Programs also to execute Programs??? You can also right click on the Programs there and select Send To Desktop to put short cuts back on to your Desktop. This will not move the Program but it will create a new short cut icon on your Desktop. Try this for MS Word. Then do the same for other Programs whose short cut icons are not on your Desktop. Did you read and follow my Post #4 ??? You must uncheck all the Advanced options on the Windows tab in CCleaner. I will look into the "Search" feature some more. Is there an option in Firefox to turn off Google search in Windows Explorer??? Has your Start Menu Most Recently Used Programs (on the left of your Start Menu after left clicking on Start) started to refill ??? It should be filling back in. davey
  22. Hello again, PLEASE DON"T MISS MY POST # 4 TO YOU ALSO. davey I can find no reason for Google Desktop Search to have been loaded on your computer by downloading CCleaner . If you downloaded other software recently it sometimes comes as an opt out feature with some free software. CCleaner does have an opt out feature for downloading the Yahoo Toolbar. This link to Google explains the following. http://desktop.google.com/privacypolicy.html Best Wishes, davey

Have you downloaded and tried the latest version?v 01.11.257 www.recuva.com
  24. Hello again, What happens if try YoKenny's link in Post#3 ? What OS version,Browsers, security programs .firewalls etc. Send thumbnails of your options settings including Applications tab. Need a little more explanation of what you did and then what happened. Good Luck, davey
  25. Hello Zootyfruit, No, this is not a common issue. EDITED First thing to check is it actually trying to reboot. Can you hear it? I only bring this up because some laptops get a sticky switch and won't reboot until you unstick it. No need going through all this if it is something like that.Battery level is also important. If you did registry "cleaning" that can sometimes cause problems that don't show until you reboot. You must try to boot her computer in " safe mode" repeatedly clicking F8 and following the instructions.Sometimes just reboot in safe mode a couple of times gets things back in order. If everything seems OK stop here.If not do next step if needed. Your objective is to Reset any Registry changes you may have made using the backups that you made when "cleaning" her Registry. If you have no backups than you want to Restore the REGISTRY using ERNDT if you already use ERUNT on her machine. Otherwise use Windows System Restore. If you did not "clean" her registry then First thing to try would be reboot in Safe Mode and try Last Known Good Configuration.Sometimes just reboot in safe mode a couple of times gets things back in order. Second thing to try is ERDNT if you already have it.If you don't know the name go to step 3. Step #3 to try as last resort System Restore. You may have to try older and older Restore Points. Doing a System Restore doesn't always work.System Restore is one thing "SYSTEM REPAIR" is completely different.I only mention this because some users get them confused. DO NOT ATTEMPT OR DO A SYSTEM REPAIR.THIS IS A DRASTIC STEP AND SHOULD ONLY BE DONE WITH VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ASSISTANCE. Fill us in. davey
