  1. I have Win95B, Win95C, Win98SE, WinME, Win2k Pro, WinXP 2002 Pro SP2 and guess what I prefer? Vista is too memory hungry thats why you need a minimum of 2GB for it to run. Edit: Pro added.
  2. Welcome to Piriform ster. Well the icon won't appear in the systray unless you have it tick in Options\Advanced and you have the main screen minimize. It depends on your time settings for the screensaver mine is 15 minutes but it only takes a few seconds to clean. I bet you have CC running all the time in the systray, thats a waste of resource. I don't think it will run all the time you have to open it just to click the clean button.
  3. If those two are shown I wonder why CCleaner isn't shown?

    Version 2.18

Welcome to Piriform Enid. Yes you can download any version of CCleaner, Recuva or Defraggler from FileHippo here.
  5. Welcome to Piriform GeneZ. Yes you can download any version you want too here.
  6. Welcome to Piriform shardman. Well CC is close with my system 638MB, Recuva says 639MB, My Computer says 639MB. My system at work has 2GB and it shows 2GB on there. Try out my Memory_Checker.zip and tell use what that shows? If you have 4GB then the PageFile will be of the scale it is on my 2GB at work. I haven't investigated this yet. Thank you Dennis for finding this link.
  7. Welcome to Piriform tylerpomroy. Have you set the switches on the second drive to Slave? You can't have 2 Master drives running at the same time. Which version of Windows do you have on your drives? If you now say it doesn't work anymore, did it work correctly at some point?
  8. Welcome to Piriform twade. Well depending on how big the file is you could probably look at its contents with WordPad or Word. Did you know its a backup file you wanted to recover?
  9. Welcome to Piriform dungeon. Well I've just tried you problem. I've RARed a few files and folder and put a couple of rar files on my pen drive. Gone to the pen drive and deleted them. Ran Recuva which found them and restored them correctly all files are use able. When you say damaged or unknown format. What type of files are they? We did have a problem a long time ago. If you put a jpg on a drive and deleted it Recuva would find it but the recovered file size was 0 bytes. This problem was fixed on a later version.
  10. Welcome to Piriform Englander. I think your asking a bit much of Piriform for free Partitioning software. You can download PowerQuest Partition Magic 8.0 for a free trial.

    Firmware?

    No not for personal use.
  12. Well as I understand it unicodes are used to convert characters. In VB you can't show Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Greek etc because they don't use alphanumeric characters you have to convert them. I'm not sure if CC uses unicows.dll for the same reason on its language convertor. I know it uses the dll's in the lang folder.
  13. Well you all have virus checker installed so that isn't a problem is it?

    need help

Welcome to Piriform anil. Well CC only cleans the operating system drive because thats were all the main programs and web browser(s) run from. If you know the folder names on the other drives that you want cleaning then goto Options\Include and click on Add Folder or Add File so they can be cleaned at the same time. When you add a folder and there are specfic files in that folder you want to delete then filebox at the bottom will say *.* just change that to *.tmp or what ever. Be very careful what you add to these folders else you could be deleting files that you need in which case you would need to run Recuva to retrieve them back.
  15. I tried it with the /debug switch and it analysed without crashing. I thought that was strange so I tried it again. This time it analysed a lot faster and still didn't crash. I tried it as normal and it still didn't crash, strange. I've just seen a new post Analyze Starts at 39% - Hangs I don't know if its related.
  16. I've said do a search for Magical Jelly Bean because we've talked about this before.
  17. No problem if it didn't lock my system so nothing responds so I have to press reset to restart. I haven't tried the /debug switch I don't know it that will work.
  18. Yes we've talked about Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder because one version had a virus in it not malware, do a search. I can't remember which version but the laters ones don't.
  19. Welcome to Piriform lelandstrott. Why would you want to run two AV apps at the same time? Do you think you will be twice as safe? Some AV apps use a lot of system resoures. I don't have my AVG 7.5 running all the time. Why would you need it running all the time? If you download or are given any files that your not sure about you just right-click on that folder and scan for virus. With AVG there is avgamsvr.exe which runs in the backbround and it doesn't show up in Task Manager so that protects anything that a web site might download to you thats suspect. Plus I have Uninstall Manager which tells me what additional files have been installed and where.
  20. Welcome to Piriform Utopian. It depends on the ActiveX. A lot of programmes use ActiveX's some of mine do. Unless you state the name which you can do a web search for to see what it does then I would leave it.
  21. Hi Alan. I know what it does. After you do an analysis what do you do? Just clean or don't bother. You can't select certain files or folder and just clean those. So what do you gain from doing an analysis?
  22. It appears that you mom or someone has installled WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) which checks if her CD Key is genuine. This problem has been talked about before do a search. When I had WinXP installed I downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage a recommended by the updates. I didn't fully read the download page but once installed you can't uninstall. Its listed in Add/Remove but you can't uninstall. On startup I got the message your Windows XP could be counterfeit. When Windows startsup you don't see you normal desktop only a sign saying counterfeit or something. You click on the icon in the systray to verify you registration and it comes back counterfeit. Its a genuine WinXP hollogramed CD. The only way I could remove this software was to do a system restore. http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx
  23. Welcome to Piriform risvile. If you wnat to save the record of what has been analyzed then I would suggest you analyze then right-click on the results windows and select Save to text file... and save it somewhere safe. I really don't know why users want to analyze because it will just show a list of files or folders that are going to be cleaned. You can't right-click on a file or folder and select clean this only.

    Learn C++

Well gigabayt I haven't used C++ but I've used VC++ and I didn't like it thats why I use the old VB. Now one of the best sites on the web for code is Planet Source Code. They have a Visual Basic, VB.Net, Java/Javescript, C/C++, ASP, SQL, Perl, Delphi, PHP and Cold Fusion sub sites. C/C++ is broken down again into C, C++ (general), Microsoft Visual C++, Borland C++ and UNIX C++. You can do a search for any keywords you want to on there. The downloads are rating so you can see it its popular or any good. Another great site that I use for VB is VBForums its mainly for VB but they do a C and C++ forum and a C++ Codebank as well. The web is a beautyful tool for search for any info on any topic.
  25. They probably removed it after 12 noon because if you try an April fools trick on someone after 12 noon you are the fool. I logged in after 12 and I couldn't find it either.
