  1. Welcome to Piriform Carlos. This discussion has been talked about before. What AV do you use? have a read and put your comment in. If you do a search on YouTube you will see many discussions on the for an against for each of them. It appears no one likes Norton.
  2. Sorry dcdivenut I missed that bit at the bottom.
  3. Thats only if they are using Vista Tom. dcdivenut hasn't stated like most users with problems on here which operating system with service pack number and web browser they are using. They could always try a system restore. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=20729&hl=

Maybe if your posting the full spec Hazel, I was only asking for Operating System with Service Pack numbers and Web Browsers used.
  5. I've never had any of my anti-virus apps running all the time whats the point? Any file you are given or download you check check if its clean before you use it. Anti-virus apps use system resources and if you don't have much then turn them off. I was on a Warez site last year and it said it needs to download an ActiveX for the site I click yes and waited for a few seconds then AVG popped up and said a virus in Temporary Internet Files which it deleted. Now I have it turned off so how did it find it? All you Win2k/XP/Vista users just look at all those icons in the systray, each one is an app thats using resources and if your not using that app then turn them off, your system will run a lot faster. Thats a great thing about CC you can remove items on startup with Win98SE but on later operating systems you can switch them off and on. I can do this manually which I've done for years until CC came along.

    User Info

Now I use a lot of forums as some of you may know. I read a lot of posts on there where the user doesn't give us the basic system info. Now some forums ask the certain info is posted before they will consider answering a post, mainly AVG Forum. I think there should be a pinned topic on each forum called Please read before you post or something similar. Quite a few forum have a pinned topic on this subject. The basic info needed normally is Operating System with Service Pack number. Web Browser(s), Product and version number on here. This info is easily added to your signature mine is. What do you think?
  7. Welcome to Piriform Aj. Before you do a system restore just have a look whats listed in Control Panel - Printers & Faxes? If your HP isn't listed then I presume you have the installation CD? If you don't then go to the HP web site and download any updated drivers for your system. You haven't stated your system so you will have to choose one here. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...mp;lang=en& If your using WinXP then it says the drivers are already installed.
  8. Welcome to Piriform Matt. Has the license gone of both machines? This info is stored in the registry just do a system restore to a date when it last worked correctly. AVG have there own forum if you want to search. http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/index.php?0
  9. Yes I wondered about that Hazel.
  10. Welcome to Piriform Davy. We have another user called Davy I wonder how that got missed? Anyway when you add a folder to Included you have to select the folder first then in the little textbox at the bottom just change the file extensions you want to included in that folder, click Ok. That it will show the folder name and the file types e.g C:\Temp\*.txt
  11. Yes all versions of CC and Recuva run on all versions of Windows. Defraggler has never run on a Win9x/ME system its a pity and users have asked for it.
  12. Well that is a bad move Martin thats if you don't mind loosing all your setting and Cookies to Keep. If your using the ini option then you will need to move ccleaner.ini to another folder before uninstalling then move it back before you run the newer version. Just install over the top of the previous version.
  13. Welcome to Piriform lylal. Well I've used CC for a number of years on a Win9x system and it works as it says on the tin. What are you saying it doesn't remove? Which options do you have ticked? The main thing that CC does it remove the normal craps that your system produces e.g. in your Windows\Temp folder, Windows\Temporary Internet Files, Windows\Cookies folder unless you save some cookies, any update files downloaded by AVG, any update files used by Adobe Flash Player unless you have those switched off as I do. The language option has only been available on the last two updates. I made a comment that on Win9x if you click on the language ComboBox it didn't stop open, it just flashed up and selected the language that was close to the mouse. If you only need the English language then you can delete the lang folder in the CC folder, the same goes for Recuva. Which version are you now using?
  14. I see that TwistedMetal has made a topic about this problem with special downloads. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=20648&hl=
  15. Welcome to Piriform Roke. Well I would assume that CC gets this info from the registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\Desciption\System\CentralProcessor\0\ProcessorNameString Mine is Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 1.70GHz and thats what CC shows.
  16. Welcome to Piriform AglaK. Can I suggest to Admin that we have a good  smilie on this forum. If you don't have one then let me know I will supply one of my forum.
  17. My first Kingston 256Kb flash drive came with a CD that you could password protect your data on the drive. I've never need to use it so I can't tell you if its any good.
  18. Welcome to Piriform SRB. Yes this normally means it was a bad download file just try it again. I always use FileHippo but I've never had a bad download with any of the three products thou I have with loads of Nero's of there.
  19. Well the location shouldn't matter Paul because where ever ccleaner.exe is run from thats where the ini file should be.
  20. Yes I've seen this topic today. http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=20596&hl=
  21. Welcome to Piriform Paul. The ini file is ccleaner.ini which normally resides in the ccleaner folder or where you are running ccleaner.exe from. Goto the ccleaner folder and run ccleaner.exe. Goto Options\Advanced and put a tick in Save all settings to INI file. Now look at the folder again and you will have a ccleaner.ini in there. Go back to CC and remove the tick and ccleaner will disappear again. You can use CC on network drives providing you use the ini options thats if you want the same settings applied to each system.
  22. Well as I've said before I've used every version of CC and they all work as they should do. If your saying that 0 items are deleted which items are you talking about. Everything in Windows\Temp folder, Temporary Internet files, Cookies etc?
  23. Well as I've said before you can run CC of a normal flash drive which you don't need any special drivers or software.
  24. Welcome to Piriform mrmiddy. Well I've been using CC and Outlook Express for two and half years and I've never lost my address book. Mind you I always backup my address book and emails on a flash drive. Can you find any *.wab files when you do a file search? Can you run Recuva to see if they have been deleted by something else?
  25. I was doing a search on youtube and I came across TOP TEN ANTI-VIRUS IN 2008. There were a few videos on this subject , The best anti-virus program i have ever found (and its free), avast vs norton vs kaspersky, Avg vs avast and , there are others on there. I still use AVG 7.5 because its free thou I did have to do a reinstall over the weekend because it stopped updating again. Most videos say that Norton sucks.
