  1. You did say you were playing on line. Didn`t click at first. (Had too many whiskys). Never tried on line, but thought about it a lot. It does actually sound good. I`ll let you know if I get the adapter (or whatever you call it.) 03.19am (again ) I`m off for now. Regards
  2. If thats one of those games where you have a squad of guys to keep alive, no chance. I just end up losing my rag and cursing at the screen. And that usually results in my wife or daughter coming through and asking what the hell am I swearing at. How can they not understand that two of your guys have just been zapped, and it wasn`t your fault! I`ll just stick to keeping myself alive in a game like "Black". You must have tried Black. Amazing game. Regards
  3. Listen to shoutcast radio most times I`m here with WinAmp. Never got into Singingfish music search. But, spookily enough, I`ve just downloaded 20 mins ago an update of the free player to V 5.33. I`m assuming here that you use winamp. If you do, and have not looked at the update, there`s a couple of new features: If not, just ignore that. Haven`t installed it yet, but I tried a search on Singingfish with V5.32. Two different artist searches, yet I didn`t get AOL. Each time I got a video of Donald Trumps "Apprentice". Work that one out. Regards
  4. Nagware: I like that word. That xtra click of the mouse does fit that description perfectly. But trouble is, once you`ve used it, it`s hard to go without it. I`ve just done an early springclean, a complete wipe and reinstall, and I`ve only replaced a fraction of what I previously had on my hard drive. It`s easy to collect applications the way we collect CD`s. So for now, I`m using IE7 (your fav.) and I haven`t yet replaced McAfee. But I keep looking down in the corner for that reassuring little green icon, and wondering if I`m on a site that "threatens browser security" or some other similar unpleasantness. Will definitely reinstall it. Regards
  5. I take it McAfee Security Suite is not recommended then. No mention of its little brother Site Advisor. Although not perfect, are most of us in agreement that its still helpful. Better than nothing. Regards
  6. Just out of curiosity, I installed Firefox Portable onto a 1GB flash drive, and I`m running with it at the moment. Have to type and pause, and wait for it to catch up sometimes, well most of the time, but it`s clever idea. Not sure if I actually have a use for this at the moment, but you never know. Regards
  7. Looking out for movies all the time, but because people are downloading movies more and more, I`m finding older ones I haven`t seen pretty hard to come by. All the usual rental stores I`ve used for years are stocking fewer and fewer older titles. They sell them all off, and I`ve never been a fan of scratched DVD`s, so I wouldn`t buy them. Iv`e thought of P2P, but tried that briefly, and it made me feel very nervous. Kicked it into touch. Will let you know if I come across anything outstanding. Regards
  8. Any games OK once you get into it. Text based games can have you pulling you hair out. Last one I played was on a 48K Spectrum. Yes, the one with the big memory. It was some secret agent game, and I kept dying after jumping out of an aeroplane and opening the parachute. Eventually realised that I had to pull the ripcord first. Regards
  9. The 160 Laptops could be a new secret weapon if they are Dell`s with lithium-ion batteries. http://pcpitstop.com/pcsafety/video.asp compliments of JDPower. Regards
  10. Nice touch with the beer. Regards
  11. I went, I saw, and I nearly bust a gut. How on earth did you find that ? Absolutely brilliant. Regards
  12. Yep, racing goggles it was, and I should wear them myself, because my eyes get blurry, and I don`t wear glasses. What are your favourites? (This is still on topic, isn`t it ?) Mine: PS2. Driving:- Toca Race Driver 3: WRC Rally 4: Gran Tourismo 4: 1st Person:- Black (No1 of all time): Killzone (Great story & characters) Any more gamers out there feel free to comment. Regards
  13. Boffin: Are you wearing your goggles ? Regards

    opera

Thanks for that Hazel, will follow through on those links, and let you know. They`ve already given me a clue. Since using Opera OK first time round, my Internet Security has changed from 2005 version to 2007. Regards
  15. I`ve no doubt some other boffin will come along and disagree with that, but nice to know it possibly can do your eyes some good. Spent a lot of time on "Black", on PS2. Regards
  16. 130 year old farmhouse. Stood there since Cowboys were chasing Indians, and it`s floored by a laptop. You guys don`t mention whether or not you went to the bottom of that page, but there`s links to two other fires, with pictures, also caused by Dell Laptops. Regards
  17. Came across that quite a few years ago. It was spooky then, and it`s still spooky now. Regards
  18. No, I`m a freeware convert, and I`m curious that you`re curious. Everything on my pc except Norton & Registry Mechanic is freeware. I just really dislike adverts that mislead. Free Downloads that really aren`t. If it`s a 30 day trial version, they should be more upfront and state before you download and install that it`s only a trial version. Which a lot do, but a lot still don`t. You must realise of course, this was when I first came to the forum, didn`t know anybody, and knew even less. I was finding places like Cnet, which was full of "Free" stuff. I was finding other sites with "Free Software" that McAfee would red flag now. I was naive enough to think that a "Free Download" was exactly that. I knew really very little about clogging up the registry. Or what programs like CCleaner, and Registry Mechanic actually did. All the installing and uninstalling of "Free Software" that really wasn`t, pretty much screwed up my computer. At the time, I was also gullible enough to be taken in by "Free PC Scan". That`s how I got winantivirus2006, which I couldn`t shift. Lost a lot of stuff because of that. Seeing ads for free software, that actually isn`t, still p`s me off. And I think of all the people who will be going down the same road as me. Some of them fortunately, will find their way to places like this. Others will be tearing their hair out and finding their way to expensive "Computer Repairs". Hope that answers your question, Regards
  19. rridgely, that first link made me drool. Absolutely stunning. And you could move it around the house like a laptop. Your second link made me cry. How could ya. And I`ll lay money that whatever they cost in the states, they`ll probably cost 50% more over here. One day my better half and me are gonna sell this house. Too big. Get ourselves a nice little bungalow, with fitted iMac. Got to get your priorities right. Right. Regards
  20. When I first came to the forum, downloading and installing free software, to find that all I had was the steering wheel, and I could have the rest of the car when I forked out my cash. The biggest annoyance I had was a couple of weeks after getting pc, got a nasty little virus that F-Secure didn`t stop and couldn`t shift. Called into pc world, and a technician downloaded and put on CD a prog designed specifically to catch the little bugger. Can`t remember what it was called. Followed all instructions, booted in safe mode, which was totally unknown to me, followed the trail and eventually cornered it. Gleefully pressed delete.....Nothing. Just a message saying "Please visit our website for the full commercial version." Gutted. Seeing people get free help and advice from you guys, and never coming back with a simple thank you. Regards

    opera

Curious about something that`s been bugging me for a while now. When I first came to the forum, was trying out loads of different stuff. Like a kid in a sweet shop. One of the things I tried was Opera, and although I didn`t keep it, at the time it worked fine. Recently, when I was having trouble accessing the forum with Firefox, I decided to give Opera another run. Downloaded and tried every version on the Opera website, and although they all installed fine, I could not get one of them to connect to the internet. Just kept getting error page. Tried Seamonkey, worked fine. Firefox2 OK, IE7 OK. I`m using Firefox now, and like it a lot. But it`s been puzzling me why I could not get Opera to connect my broadband. Looked at every different config. possible, but although it was set for direct connection, like all the others, it just wouldn`t have it. Any ideas anyone ? Have I missed something ? Wouldn`t mind having another look at it. Regards
  22. When I bought my pc earlier last year, the guy in pcworld was showing off the mac he had just acquired, monitor & tower in one (arrogant git). You don`t tell a customer who`s just forked out his hard earned cash, that he`s just got one better than yours. Even if it might be the truth. I hope he gets a virus up his a**e. Regards
  23. Forgive me if you have already been here XanaTos, but if not, there`s a lot of info on various problems with Messenger. Link: I installed Live Messenger a while back, and although I now use Skype, it worked fine at the time. Hope this helps, Regards
  24. What do you require of your Internet Security Software....? Yep, Security. I have just uninstalled (with Symantec tool), the 90 day free version of Norton 2005, and installed Norton Internet Security 2007 which I picked up for ?25, a small price to pay for Antivirus: Personal Firewall: Antispyware: Antiphishing. Since I began using Norton, the only thing that has gotten onto my pc has been an inconsequential tracking cookie. I have "Show Antivirus Alerts" and "Show Firewall Alerts" enabled, to see what does try to come down from the ether, and Norton has stopped some of the nastiest, high risk items you could imagine. That can be equalled by other applications, but not bettered. I trust my Internet Security Software implicitly. Which is more than I can say for the one which came free with my broadband. A big company which I won`t name, out of respect for anyone using it. Pm me if you must know, because I had to do 2 destructive recoveries because of what it let through. Yes, Norton wriggles itself into all sorts of nooks and crannies, but it can wriggle itself into any where it likes, as long as it continues to do what it says on the packet. I never have any problems downloading software, or with new software accessing the internet for the first time. It learns and makes rules for new software, and it has never let me down, and I do regular scans with Norton, as well as with 3 other applications, to be more than sure, and I have never found a thing. So, with respect, next time someone wants to knock a Security Software Company, they should ask themselves the question. Have I fired 5 shots or six ? No, seriously, "What do you require from your Internet Security Software...?" Yep, security, Regards
  25. Interesting site and an interesting slant for anyone interested in Linux. A host of tutorials on all aspects of Linux can be found here: There is also a repository of 14 different Linux versions. .Included in these is a System Rescue CD. These can be found here: And while on the subject, another interesting article on Linux, of which some may already be aware, but for those who aren`t..... This can be found here: Regards
