  1. You can edit it, but into the 2nd screen of item 4..... . What do you edit? Edit: You beat me again with your post...
  2. I`ll obviously go along with that. Seems OK, but running two firewalls is never recommended. Thanks for reply, will stick with PC Tools and see if rridgely has the answer.
  3. How on earth did he think of doing that, and why? Quite pretty though.
  4. Out of curiosity again, ran Windows Firewall and PC Tools Firewall Plus at the same time. Results: Leak Test blocked. Firewall manually configured to allow. Computer is running as normal with both firewalls active. 100% Stealth, and outbound traffic being blocked/allowed. This seems OK, but I would bow to superior knowledge if there`s something I`m missing with these two firewalls running together.
  5. Ive just stuck my flash drive back in, and it showed everything. My email addresses, passwords, absolutely everything.
  6. Still got my original Playstation, and a stack of games. Tempted to wipe the cobwebs off it, and run the classic Tombraiders again. PS2 Tombraiders just didn`t hit the spot with me. Prefer the Playstation originals, and once you get back into games like that, you tend not notice the difference in the graphics.
  7. Enabled java to have a look at it. Stuck this page`s address in , but was told I needed another plugin (using Firefox) to use it. Not keen on too many plugins, I`ll pass.
  8. Used Norton 2005 & then 2006 until very recently. Still got this sitting on the shelf, sealed in the box. Since I changed to Avast Antivirus, and a not yet decided firewall, my 3.06Ghz processor actually performs the way it should. You would think a fire had been lit under my computers a**e. But each to their own Mike, whatever works for you.

At least it dosen`t need an intercooler.
  10. Anthony, I`m impressed. I have never seen so much info on my pc. Spookily enough, my son left a 512mb flash drive with me about a week ago. He stuck it in his pc and it strangely changed from 512mb to 1.5mb. No idea why. Formatted, no difference. The point I`m coming to, eventually, is that this little application has downloaded and fitted, just, onto this flash drive, and runs from there. Very useful. Thanks for the link.
  11. Thanks for the links, which Ive followed up. The WWDC program covers some of my visible ports, but not 1026 & 1027, which are high in the red on the "recent port activity" graphic on Hackerwatch.org. Out of curiosity, I disabled PC Tools firewall and activated my XP SP2 firewall and went back to "Shields Up" and "Hackerwatch". Obtained 100% Stealth again, but of course this is only for stuff coming in. Outbound, it`s non existent, as all you guys know. I think I`ll try some other possibilities, in an attempt to have outbound security, and retain 100% stealth. I said above that I wasn`t bothered, but I think I was kidding myself. It definitely feels more comfortable. To tell the truth, this is a bit confusing. The "Host" ports in my first post, i.e. 1025 through 1030 that are visible but closed; is there a way of knowing whether or not I have any applications that would use these ports, and subsequently make them vulnerable to something nasty? Ive no idea whether I`m being cautious, or paranoid. But I`m sure someone will tell me. Edit: Thanks rridgely, I didn`t see your reply before I posted. Edit2: Thanks TeeJay also.
  12. Have always had a 100% stealth rating from "Shields Up" while using Norton and then F-Secure. Since changing to PC Tools Firewall Plus I now have nine ports recognizable as existing to anything incoming, although they are "closed to connections". I`m figuring that "closed to connections" is probably as safe as full stealth, although the fail 100% Stealth message was a bit of a surprise. Ports now visible are: 113-Ident: 139-Net Bios: 1024-Dcom: 1025 to 1030-Host: 1720-H.323: 5000-UPnP: Am I OK like this? Not really bothered about 100% stealth as long as nothing can get in.
  13. After first ditching Norton, and yesterday ditching F-Secure, I`m now using PC Tools Firewall Plus, which is working very smoothly with Avast Antivirus 4.7 Home Edition. Both installed yesterday. Don`t know the technical fineries on this stuff, but as rridgely recently suggested to me, my pc is noticeably faster, and boots quicker. The PC Tools firewall has the same very nice GUI as their Registry Mechanic, which I use, and Avast GUI also looks nice and is easy to set up etc.
  14. You`ve sold me. Gonna have a look at it out of curiosity.

See you`re still dreaming about Macs. Thanks to that other thread, (can`t remember which one now), I can`t pass a shop without popping in to have a look at the Macs. The expensive ones. Apologies: Off topic.
  16. Never heard of them Anthony. The thing that strikes me about the first one at softpedia, is there aren`t any user reviews. I like to read a few user reviews before trying anything new. (Cowardly I know.) The second one only runs an applications own uninstall program. Doesn`t seem much point to it really. I`m leaning more towards Zsoft uninstaller. Total Uninstall always seems to leave a bit of stuff behind, although it does display the paths of what it leaves, if you are comfortable about cleaning them up.
  17. Time you got that camera Cowboy. Think of all the pictures you could have taken by now. Once you start with a digital camera and your pc, you`ll be clicking all over the place. That`s a stunning looking insect login123. Ive heard of that Velvet Ant, but not seen it close up like that. Insects are the most amazing things. If we hadn`t evolved to be the dominant species, it would have been insects. Edit: That site is new to me cowboy. Thanks
  18. Seems ok on the face of it, but looking at the FAQ page, I appears that it only works with Firefox up to Version 2.0.0.1. Edit: Forgot to mention, I`m referring to Diehard.
  19. Some good reading there, and they all have their different merits. I like the look of Drop Box, with its 50mb upload limit. I`m using xs.to-hosting at the moment just for its ease of use in providing various links for forums etc, but Ive bookmarked that site. Thanks. Edit: Thanks Sputnik. Dropboks.
  20. I`m always looking for interesting, stunning, unusual, or even bizarre photographs or art on the web, and over the last few months Ive found a bit of everything. Found a lot of HRGiger type art, and lots of good pics on sites like rridgelys recent Cool Pics thread. For a change, I thought I would post a few of my own that I took back in July last year, shortly after buying my first digital camera. I was looking after my sons two dogs at the time. All of the pics were taken using the macro close up mode, and they show the detail and clarity you can get with an average Compact Digital Camera. The first two are taken in his garden. Second two are something else entirely. This thing jumped across the kitchen bench in front of me, and I nearly had a heart attack, I managed to catch it under a pint glass, which gives you an idea of it`s size. But apart from being scary, it`s actually stunning to look at. For the nature lovers out there, I released it alive at the bottom of his garden. First Picture: Second Picture: Third Picture: Fourth Picture: I hope you like them, and have a look at the detail in full size, especially of the thing in the pint glass. I know what it is, but don`t want to spoil the surprise.
  21. I just got myself Darkspy Anti-Rootkit from that site. Looks pretty good, and it`s free. Recently acquired F-Secures Blacklight, but has a time limit on it. This looks like a good replacement. I know Andy Manchesta is well respected here, so I think it`s a safe assumption to make that anything on his site will be OK.
  22. Got it going today, got a few good desktops.
  23. That is a fantastic link JD. Ive got a minimum of 2.2 Mbps at the moment, which I`m quite happy with, but I now know from your link that my local exchange (Durham), is being upgraded to 8 Mbps in the very near future. Interesting though, that at this moment in time my Download Speed is 1996 Kbps, and my Upload Speed is 242 Kbps. Thanks XPSP2 for the link: http://speedtest.net/ Edit: Did another check here: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html And my speeds are actually a bit higher than is usual with 2.2 Mbps.
  24. There`s something else Ive never heard of. Just dl`d that from the home site. Will give it a try. Thanks for tip.
