  1. That forum thread confirms that their are no limits to the gullibility of Joe Public. And that second one: Breakfast Kickoff Session: Your choice: A hard boiled egg, or two slices of white bread and a cricket. Magic
  2. Yea, looking at it that way JD, it is a bit incomplete isn`t it. Good job I don`t use ebay. Seriously, I looked right through the web pages of my local TV stations before I posted, and couldn`t find a flaming thing on it, although I`m sure I sat and watched it on TV.
  3. Hazel, how are you and rridgely doing that? It will not play the movies off my camera. In the file types menu, I can highlight every type of image file except .mov, which my camera uses. But rridgely also has a Nikon camera, and his movies play. Gonna reinstall it later, but while I`m connected to the web. Maybe it automatically downloads the necessary plug-in during install. I`ve no idea, but I`m puzzled. Maybe you have a different version? Anyway, I`ll come back to this thread if I can`t get it sorted. Thanks for the reply by the way.
  4. I go along with that, I really like the look and features of Media Player 11. If only it could play Quick time stuff. Edit 15/03/07. 00.08: Installed QuickTime Alternative. Windows Media Player will now play my .mov videos.
  5. Hi Anthony, Zip Genius was recommended to me by Twisted Metal recently, when I needed to unzip rar files. Seems very quick, and I like it. All the programs you mention I think are pretty good, but this is the only one I`ve used.
  6. OK, will play around with it. Thanks. Late, or should I say early, I`m off.
  7. yep, it`s a nice looking program, but what about the quick time .mov files. How do you play them in picasa?
  8. Thanks for the quick reply Andavari. Not sure which way to go, although I`ll keep picasa.
  9. I`ve downloaded picasa, and I quite like it, but how do I play my .mov files with it. It seems that you have to have QuickTime or QT alternative installed. Or, have you downloaded a codec?
  10. There are a lot of Nigerian scams going on at the moment on ebay, but this one is a bit different. On my local news today, a woman living not 20 miles from me had her computer hacked, and her email and ebay account details stolen. It was a while before she realised this had happened because they had changed her password, and she thought it was a software error. When the hijack was eventually discovered, a stack of purchases had been made on her account, and I mean a lot of purchases. The best that can be ascertained at the moment, is that it originated in Nigeria. Can`t find a news link for this, but I`ve no doubt we`ll hear this story repeated.
  11. Hi Marilyn, and welcome to the forum. I think your answer may be found on the Adobe Forums, where I used to get stuff myself. There are some clever guys on there, and an Adobe tech drops in now and again. If any of the guys here can`t help, go to this link, which should put you on the Elements 4 forum search page. Select "search all forum messages", and enter error c000005 in the search box. You should get a lot of posts regarding that error number. Follow all the links, and you hopefully will get an answer to your problem. Not sure if that link times out or not, so come back if have a problem with it, or any other problem. Hope that helps.
  12. Off topic here. Apologies. But where have I heard that before? It`s from something on TV I`m almost certain. Does anyone recognize that little phrase before it does my head in.
  13. Yep, as I say, I`ve looked at that but not too keen. May come back to it. Thanks for link. Will have a look at Picasa, as there doesn`t appear to be a simple plug-in for Win Media Player or Winamp. Have searched, but no luck. Thanks for link. Gonna also have a look on the Nikon website. See if their PictureProject software has improved any.
  14. I know there`s an alternative QuickTime player, but is there a codec that will enable Windows Media Player or WinAmp to play QuickTime movies? It`s for playing video made with a Nikon Coolpix camera. Trying to save on unnecessary programs, and I don`t like the Nikon bundled software.
  15. There`s a first. I`ve actually told someone something they didn`t know. I`ve stopped the thing running in "Services". Has no dependencies.
  16. Always use automatic update for windows stuff, but only realised this had been installed when I opened Control Panel > User Accounts. I think it may have been installed with .NET Framework 3. It`s actually running at the moment although I haven`t activated anything. (Task Manager says 15mb) Anyone else have this? I know it`s to do with identity protection, or put another way:- The Identity Metasystem is an interoperable architecture for digital identity that assumes people will have several digital identities based on multiple underlying technologies, implementations, and providers. Sound good? Afraid they`re not my words. Got them from here. Do I need it on my pc now, or sometime in the future, or at all?
  17. I stand corrected. We`re lucky here insofar that ITV (free terrestial TV), and not Sky ( pay satellite), are contracted to cover F1. May it always remain so.
  18. fieryone, I am more than happy to have been wrong, but the name "Activate.exe" rang an immediate bell. Unfortunately, not everything with that name is benign.
  19. DennisD

    Freeware!

That looks a great program, with extensive tutorials.
  20. You said you might be ditching that if you had to pay. Is it still free, or have you given in.
  21. Now there`s an interesting thing. Went to look at that installer, not having changed from FF to IE7, which is usually necessary for Microsoft stuff. Got the usual "Validation Required" button to press, but after pressing, got a download window for a "Windows Genuine Advantage Plug-in" for Firefox and Netscape. Didn`t know there was such a thing. However, will pass on the plug-in, as they say if you are having problems with it, there`s an alternative method of validation. That tells me people have been having problems. Anyway, thanks for link.
  22. Two extensions I don`t think have been mentioned yet: DownloadHelper 2.0: Download Flash Video. QuickJava.0.4.2.1: Allows quick enable of Java & Javascript from status bar. Not a FF extension, but a good Flash Video Player to go with any FLV downloader. Here: (Guaranteed by Softpedia, and Free)
  23. Here in the UK, ITV 1 gives in depth coverage of F1 qualifying and race day. For those outside the UK, their web site is stacked with information, photos and reports. There`s also a newsletter and a forum. ITV 1 Web Site: Well worth a look.
  24. If you have extensions, could it have been an update for one of these? You usually have to restart FF afterwards. Edit: rridgely, it`s spooky how many times we post at exactly the same time. You pipped me again.
  25. Google Activate.exe and you get things like this: ACTIVATE.EXE - Trojan.WinAntiSpyware/WinAntiVirus 2006.Process. WinAntiVirus2006, Adult Personal ads, among other things Web page here: WinAntiVirus2006, I`ve experienced first hand. Not very pleasant, so I hope you have a different Activate.exe to this one.
