I sometimes wonder about all the Firefox and Opera add-ons we all like to play around with. Are they ever tested before they're placed on the official sites? The same goes for the greasemonkey scripts.

I've had problems with ver 1 and above on an old computer that's still running Windows 2000 sp4. It crashes when trying to play any video files. There's no problem with audio. I prefer the older versions anyway because they have the Shoutcast utility.

When I just installed the slim build v3.04.1389 of Ccleaner, I didn't see the option box for changing the default installation folder. I've installed and uninstalled older versions of Ccleaner over the years and this is the first time I didn't see the option to change the program directory.

In it's earliest beta days (before version 1), Vdownloader was a pretty clean program with an exe file that could be easily unpacked. Even later versions unpacked with ease. They're now using a version of Inno Setup that's more difficult to extract. I just downloaded the Fanboy list, opened it in Notepad and noticed that Fanboy's list has these symbols shaped like a box before each url and the file isn't in list form. However, if I copied his list to Wordpad, the file was in list form and the asterisk wildcards appeared, and the box symbols disappeared. I then copied the Wordpad list and pasted the items in my Opera urlfilter.ini file, in the exclude section.

A usenet poster compiled these great lists with links to the author's sites. I've archived it by saving the page as a MHT file. Alternatively, the link could be bookmarked. Considering that there's no Adblock + for Opera and Admunch is payware, does anyone have a good list to add to the urlfilter.ini file for Opera? There's a program here called Adsweep that supplies a javascript file, but I haven't tried it yet: http://adsweep.org/ Alternatively, you can download the author's adblock list for Opera here: http://www.adblocklist.com/ He provides a urlfilter.ini file. I just download it, open it in notepad, and copy the blockist to the "exlude" section of my old urlfilter.ini file. I must have unchecked or removed something and can''t remember what it was. Maybe it was the trial version of Admunch I installed. When it ran, Opera was great, but when I closed it, I saw alot of ads using the Opera browser. However, ever since I copied the adlists provided above, my pages load much faster and I no longer see 95% of the ads!

Thanks for the explanation, TheOdds. In answer to previous comments, you can download the setup file here (slim build): http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds Use 7zip to open the exe file. Most clean programs will use a simple packer for their installer that can be opened by 7zip. Sometimes you then have the option of just copying the software files to a directory and running it without installing. Ccleaner takes care of that with their portable build.

After using the slim build of CCleaner for years, I just downloaded the latest version which is 2.24. I decided to unzip the archive using 7zip and noticed that in the $PLUGINSDIR is a file called system.dll. Is this file installed and if so, where? I don't see it in my current Ccleaner folder and a scan of my OS and programs partitions show system.dll files but those are associated with MS Framework. When upgrading to a later version, can I: a - just unzip an exe archive and replace the Ccleaner.exe file, or b - reinstall the new CCleaner program over the old one, or c - save my ini file, uninstall the old version and install the new version? I always seem to use method c.

Is it just me or does Opera create directories in three different places? The first one is the obvious one which is the program files folder. I never thought of posting this topic until I read a post in another thread that stated Ccleaner looks at the C: drive for the installation. I know it cleans my Firefox and IE browser files and they're on a different partition (I have to manually add the cache directory for Opera). Is there anything I need to do to the ini file for an OS install that's not on the C: partition?

Does it help with the speed of broadband connections at all? I'm not sure I would want to browse through their proxy servers, though. Where do you find Opera Unite? Was this included with Opera 10? I've looked at the Opera Help and it says that it's in "Panels" but I don't see it there. Isn't this a just way to set up a p2p network within your browser? With the right security, I can see this being very advantageous for businesses in exchanging MS Office documents.
