  1. Up and running squire. Thank you. Is it my eyes, or does this new version have brighter colours ? It even looks new. Regards
  2. Thanks for the quick response and the links. Will let you know. Regards
  3. I`ve just recently acquired an add on for Firefox from one of rridgelys posts. "Restart Firefox". Really useful for trying out or getting rid of new extensions or themes. From pressing the button, it took only 4 seconds to close 3 tabs and reload them. A similar button on IE7 would work hand in hand with that Tweak Utility, (which looks tidy), because you have to restart it after making a change. And before anyone slaps me round the head and says it`s already got one, I`ve just looked through 216 add ons for IE7 here: http://www.ieaddons.com/default.aspx?cid=2&scid=69 , and I can`t find one. There are dozens of different toolbars available, but I aint looking through them. Regards
  4. Need some advice here I think. A couple of months ago while copying CDs to use in the car, I got the warning about "active content". Knowing even less than I know now, I thought what ? its only a CD. I`m offline. Well, having read now about rootkits has got me wondering about that CD. And I`ve no idea which CD it was, but like everyone else, I have plenty of Sony albums. How can I find out if that CD was this Sony "malware" ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Regards
  5. Hi thric333, and welcome to the forum. I`m no techie either, but for want of a better suggestion without actually seeing your pc, I think I would first have a look inside your base unit. It may simply be a loose ribbon or cable connection from your drives. The "no drive detected" message you receive might be a result of that. If it is a loose connection, then it`s usually just a push on connector. Take the side panel off (with it switched off of course), and see if you can see the cable that connects to the rear of your drives. You can`t do any damage if you don`t touch anything. These units are designed to be user accessible. If this dosen`t help, come back with more details of your pc (model, age etc), and maybe one of the other guys here, (the cleverer ones) may have some other suggestions. Regards
  6. What is it that seems to be ingrained into the psyche of manufacturers that says if it`s new they have to charge you a kings ransom for it. Of course manufacturing & development costs have to be recouped, but come on, they only get away with this thanks to the people who a: have money to burn, and b: must have the latest of anything, whatever the cost. And this is not a criticism of people who fall into those categories. I would love to be able to afford the latest gear. Well, patience is a virtue of course, but in the case of new technology, it could save you a fortune. All the above is, of course, IMHO. Regards
  7. Hello again cowboy, Just found a neat Music & Internet Radio Player that uses the Java Runtime Platform. It`s called jlGui, (and don`t ask me how that`s pronounced), looks really good, and I`m using it at the moment to listen to Johnny Cash. I have sampled the quality of the Radio side, (demo) and it`s top notch. (IMHO) Haven`t set up the radio side of it yet, but you can find it at this address. http://www.javazoom.net/jlgui/jlgui.html Click through to the download page, and take your pick of the download type. I chose the middle one, saved and then installed, but maybe the Web one might be better. Not sure. Might try that one later. Let me know what you think. Might as well use that wierd little icon as its just sitting there doing nothing. Regards
  8. Hi cowboy, Iv`e had that icon in my system tray for ever. It`s configured to remain hidden while inactive. When it does pop up it`s usually when I`m looking at music videos, movie trailers or such. There`s another in my system tray, again configured to remain hidden while inactive, which is the Download Java Update icon. No worries pal, you can put your guns away. (IMHO) Regards Edit: As youv`e only recently sorted Java out, its probably just saying hello.
  9. That rarewares site is pretty neat Andavari. I was all round the houses when I had to find the Lame decoder for AudioGrabber. http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/ Wish I`d known about that place. Bookmarked. Regards Edit: Link for AudioGrabber
  10. I love this. Just imagine the satisfaction you would get finding someone creeping round your house, and having this in your hand. Picture here: http://blog.scifi.com/tech/archives/2007/0...un_flashli.html Regards
  11. This sounds a bit scary. http://news.com.com/FBI+turns+to+broad+new...l?tag=cnetfd.mt. This is probably not unique to the U.S. Regards
  12. This makes you think. Article here: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3513_7-668914...l?tag=cnetfd.mt Regards
  13. And here I am thinking it couldn`t get any better. Don`t think I`ll need the Vista thing any time soon though. Regards
  14. Hi exfallsburg, Sorry to hear about your bad luck, but if the product is still under warranty, or even if it`s not too long out of warranty, then you should first try your point of purchase. You should be able to update the firmware without frying it. In the UK, even if an item is just out of the warranty period, you still have a valid argument that it should last longer, or do what it says on the packet without dying on you, and is therefore "Not Fit For Purpose". Updating firmware seems to be a risky endeavour, as I have read lots of unhappy stories on the Apple Ipod forums on exactly the same thing. If it is well out of guarantee, you can try the Iriver User Forum: http://www.iriver.com/html/support/forum/sufr_index.asp Or, you could try the Iriver "Need Help ?" web page: http://www.iriveramerica.com/support/contact.aspx Or, there may be someone on here who can better advise you. Hope this helps Regards
  15. I`m also a great movie fan, but I`m afraid I can`t stand the Oscars. Nor any other award ceremonies for that matter. A bunch of overpaid, over dressed, ego inflated sycophants, so far up their own backsides as to be almost out of sight. Yes, I love movies. A few of my favourites: Lord Of The Rings Trilogy: Read the books years ago. Nice to find movies that are true to the original story. The Day After Tomorrow: Hopefully, this one does not turn out to be true. The Descent: This is one of the scariest movies I have seen for years. Even on the third viewing, it was still scaring the **** outa me. Saw: Not your normal serial killer movie. This guy had one mother of an imagination. Pirates Of The Caribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl): Johnny Dep at his best. Apocalypto: This is just one amazing movie, made better by not having any of the usual hollywood faces. Sorry, I seem to have gone a wee bit off the "Oscars" topic, but I love movies, not award ceremonies. Did I mention Kate Beckinsale in Underworld ? WOW ! Regards
  16. Latest update available here: http://www.download.com/3000-2144_4-105084...=watchmail_name Version 2.3: Release date 16/01/07 Although the CNet requirements states, it should probably read 6+ or 6/7 as it installs and works fine on IE7. Regards
  17. Thanks for your comments guys. And you are absolutely right Andavari, The inactive close button bothered me as well. However, Ive thoroughly scanned my pc and rridgelys checked my HJ log, and pc appears clean. The interesting thing is, since uninstalling and reinstalling FF2, and renewing the bookmark and cookies, I can now for the first time access the forum without manually logging in. I can move around OK, although sometimes slow, and I can access and upload stuff to Image Shack without any difficulty. Ive no idea why reinstalling something makes such a difference, but fingers crossed, seems to have worked so far. Thanks to XanaTos112 and Eldmannen for the original uninstall suggestion. Regards
  18. Thanks to Eldmannen, Humpty and Fieryone for their previous input and help on this. http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=8543 And hoping this will help anyone who`s interested, but like me, are new to Live CD/Linux. Apparently, USB ADSL modems can be quite demanding to get working with Linux, and some will not work at all. This quote is from the Ubuntu guide: That little gem made my day. However, it is possible. And there is a guide for getting started, i.e. find out if your USB modem is one of the lucky ones, at this address: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UsbAdslModem At the bottom of that page are links to guides on the different types of suitable USB modems. Regards Edit: Any reccomended alternative modems ? Edit2 Have: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Have: 1394 Net Adapter. No idea what this is.

    Ie7 Pro

Hi rridgely, Tried to post this reply with FF2. Wouldn`t have it. Went away and came back with IE7. Can now move around the forum. Gonna uninstall FF and reinstall it to see if there`s any improvement. And of course you may not need to go through my Highjack This post. You`ll see I`ve been busy tonight, and it looks like it could have been FF2 to blame. The only way I could do anything was pm`s. Will stick with IE7 for a while and then try the newly installed FF. Apologies to anyone who`s times been wasted. Regards.
  22. Thanks both you guys. Both have same idea, so it sounds good to me. Regards
  23. for me at the moment. Decided to give it a try because I was using up my attachment allowance rather quickly. Quite embarrassing to admit I didn`t realise there was a limit. Anyway, I`m gonna have to use up a bit more to ask if anyone knows why I keep getting these: , every time I try to upload a picture. I cannot get them off the page. Wherever I click with left or right button I get taken to their site. It is really annoying. I have to close the page down each time. Could this be something on my computer ? Help would be appreciated. Thanks. Not having a good day. Regards.

    Robot Nurses

My other half is into hospital this Friday for quite a major operation. Our hospital is in Sunderland, about 10 miles south of Newcastle. We were there today for her pre op checks, and the senior nurse who was taking her through the procedures, and has over 30 years service, was telling us she is on the list of imminent redundancy's, although her department is already short staffed. The truth is the machines will free up staff to look for other jobs. Regards
  25. Have been using FF2 for some time now, but I`ve started getting an irritating little problem. Working fine until about a week ago. Now, everytime I boot it up, the broadband connects no problem, and then I get "Server Not Found" message. However, when I click on "Try Again" a millisecond later, the page is instantly there, always. This happens with whatever my home page is, including the default Google page. Have tried IE7 with same home pages, and it works fine. Have not changed anything, or added any plug-ins etc. Weird. Any ideas ? Thanks
