Humpty, and anyone else. Realised my mistake, should have merged the folders instead of replacing one with the other. It`s quite surprising that mine ran with so few files. I think I may have mentioned this before, but: My education continues. I`m still a bit concerned about my Recovery Partition. With this being a new program, it might not be possible to give a definitive answer. Is a Recovery Partition write protected ? If not, can I make it write protected ? Can`t find any way to do this from Properties. If you are trying this, have a look in "MY Computer" at your C drive icon. The Powershadow icon is floating protectively over it. A real neat touch. Can save stuff while in this mode by using a USB flash drive. Thanks in advance for any input. Regards
  2. Just followed your link there rridgley. Stunning performance of Springsteen doing Blowing in the Wind. Magical. Would love to download that. Told you the guy has the most amazing voice for ballads. After seeing that, think I`ll look around for some Springsteen DVD`s. Can`t listen much to Bob Dylan now. His voice is not what it was. Springsteen doing Times are a Changing in front of Dylan and the Clintons was also a bit special. Regards
  3. Guys we have covered just about every genre of music here, but no one has mentioned..... dare I even say it ? JAZZ. I can listen to just about anything, but I couldn`t be cajoled, bribed or even tortured to listen to Jazz. Actually, I could be tortured by being made to listen to Jazz. Apologies to the Jazz fan on this forum, (there must be at least one), but I have really tried to find something there that I could hook into, but nothing, nada, zilch. I just don`t see it, or should I say hear it. Improvisation yes, individualism yes, but all I hear is a bunch of good musicians all playing on a different page. Heavy Metal Jazz: Now wouldn`t that be a thing to hear. Joking Andavari. I do actually like some heavier stuff. Absolutely loved Metallica`s live set at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert oh so long ago. Remember that ? Still got the CD tucked away somewhere. One of the three tracks was " Enter Sandman". Will have to rake it out later today and give it another spin. How did we get here from Bob Dylan ? Regards
  4. Your right about the quality side of things Andavari, it is a shame that you can`t listen to your favourite music at best quality. I used to have a thing about buying, or should I say not buying, Albums that were not recorded well. The improvement in recording technology has been astronomical over the last few years. However, I`m more forgiving of bad recordings now. Would miss out on some good stuff if I wasn`t. Of course, it also depends on how much knowledge you have of the people you listen to. If you know the story behind a song, or some good background on the artist or band you listen to, then it adds a whole new dimension to the music, and it compensates for the quality. I`ve been listening recently to some really old recordings. And I mean really old. People like Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. Simply because I came across something of their history and life story, and I had to have a listen to the songs. This is getting way too serious now, and I`m leaving myself open for some choice comments. Thanks for the links rridgely. Will give them all a try. Off to play taxi for my daughter now. Regards
  5. Can`t tell you if yours will work, but can tell you my recent experience. Been using an old Epson Stylus Colour 480 printer with XP SP2 with no problems. Was my daughters printer used while she was at university some years ago. Tried, like Andavari suggested, to plug in let the Hardware Wizard find drivers online, but never did. Tried lots of searches but no good, so just let the CD install itself, and it worked OK. And today it`s still working. Drivers CD covered Win 95/98 & 2000. Hope this helps.
  6. Thanks for the link Andavari. I approached this one cautiously, . Great site. Full of artists I`ve never heard of. And I don`t mean that in a sarcastic way. Spend a lot of time listening to different stuff, and if I find one gem out of a dozen rubbish albums, it`s worth the trouble. I used to do all my trying new stuff through my local Library CD section. Time consuming, but still worth the effort. Often stood in a big outlet like Virgin or HMV, and thought that there must be some amazing stuff in here if I could just find it. The internet has brought that possibility a little closer. Regards

That`s strange Humpty, I`ve just had a look in the Zipped file again and that pDesktop.dll is not in there, and my copy wouldn`t run without it, but yours obviously was OK. Cyber Gremlin ? I hope my comment didn`t sound like a criticism Humpty, wouldn`t dream of doing that. Just an observation. Like this program, thanks again for pushing it. Regards

Been running in "Single Shadow" mode most of today. No difference in speed etc. Little bit concerned about an explanation in help file as to how this program handles a partitioned drive. I have two partitions on my hard drive, one of them being my recovery partition. The paragraph above is quite clear in explaining that anything you save while in shadow mode will not remain after dropping out of it. Thats fine, but that your non shadowed drive could be used to save stuff while in this mode, is the bit I want to be clear about. My question is, is my recovery partition, my D drive, protected against software writing something there without my direct instruction to do so ? My D drive is a Fat32 file system, as opposed to my C drive NTFS system. I cut, pasted and saved a couple of paragraphs into wordpad earlier today to subsequently post into a thread, which I did. And true to its claim, after closing down and then rebooting 30 mins ago, the wordpad notes were gone. Just need to make sure that my D drive is secure. For information, this program can shadow all your drives. In this mode I would assume that my D drive is again safe against being written to. If my Recovery Partition is safe, then this piece of software seems to be quite amazing. I thought there may be a conflict with my Norton security software, but as soon as I activated Powershadow, Norton made rules for it, and Powershadow does what it does in the background as if it wasn`t there. It`s early days, but if I experience any problems I`ll post them. Would appreciate any input. Regards
  9. Is this what we`re all waiting for ? I`m still working on changing my USB modem to ethernet. I will have to get my finger out. Read the article with other links here. Regards
  10. I listen to a broad range of music, Rock, Indie, Folk, Classical & even Country. But my biggest love is acoustic. Singer/Songwriters. Springsteen has a great ballad voice for simple acoustic stuff. Regards

Humpty, I take my hat off to you. Followed your link and downloaded the zipped version of Powershadow 2.8.2. The first version I downloaded was 2.6, was not in zip format, and was 30 day trial. Unzipped V2.8.2, installed, and then followed brief text guide found in unzipped folder. Replaced Shadow folder in System 32 with Powershadow English folder, ran Shadowsetting.exe, showed 30 day trial message, registered with own name an email address, 30 days disappeared and now have official registered version. The only difference was a: You have to make your own shortcut. b: A couple of things still in Chinese, but 99.9% English. Thanks for your persistence, Regards Edit: Important Note: I found there was a file called "pDesktop.dll" missing from the English Folder. Copy this from the original folder in System 32 to the English folder or Powershadow will not run.

I didn`t know the price, but when I installed it I was told it was for 30 days, and then you have to register. At that price I would have to think very hard about it, and look out for the comments of you techy guys. I`m in stealth mode now, and I tell you what, the strange rippling effect that went across my screen when I activated it was really spooky. When I uncloak I`m half expecting to see Jean-Luc Picard waiting for me with the Enterprise.

Just followed your link Humpty, and if it does what it says on the box, it seems pretty good. I`ve downloaded it, and will give it a try. What harm can it do ? (Didn`t the captain of the Titanic say something like that about a bit of ice?) Regards.
  14. . Forgive me for saying this, but if it was available as an implant, just think of the possibilities. 200,000 volts would make you very popular. It`s hard to type when you can`t stop chuckling, but I have an image in my mind of a trail of smoking bedrooms that completely baffle the police. You would have to go on the run. Regards Moderators, feel free to delete. Couldn`t resist. Blame Andavari for putting the Implant in my head.
  15. Gave IE7 Pro a good run, but have to come back to Firefox. I know there`s a thread somewhere about FF add ons, but while I`m here I`ll just mention two nice ones I`ve been using for some time with no problems. Showcase: http://showcase.uworks.net/ .Cooliris: http://www.cooliris.com Regards

Thanks rridgely, I thought that too. Anyway, can`t do any harm to ask their advice. They do actually have a very good Customer Service side, and always reply next day at the latest. Thanks again, Regards
  17. I got that Springsteen Album from my local CD library. I tried very hard to like it, but man, it was nothing more than an indulgence. I`ve got a Pete Seeger album in front of me now: "Songs of Hope and Struggle". If you ever get the chance to listen to this, bear in mind that although the songs seem a bit simplistic, they were sung as real protest songs at public meetings, in bars etc. in the very early days of the Unions. Most work places had no unions at this time, and Pete Seegers songs were so inspirational, he had real threats to his wellbeing from company employed thugs. This guy was a real protest singer. Talktalk Broadband from the CarPhone Warehouse. Supposed to range between 2.2mbs and 8mbs, but never goes above or below 2.2. Is that what you meant ? The modem is a Thomson 330 speedtouch type, and speed seems pretty good, but I`ve a fairly fast pc, 3.06Ghz. The only connection on the back of the modem is the phone/modem cable socket.

    Ubuntu

It`s funny you should ask that as I`ve been under the probably false assumption that because the modem came free with the broadband software and modem drivers, that I was stuck with it. I was wondering if I could simply bin the USB modem for something ethernet. Am I tied to this UnSuitable for Broadband modem because they came as a package? As a matter of interest I have the following installed in my pc, but must confess I have no real idea as to what they are or do. 1394 Net Adapter. Realtek RTL8139/810X Family Fast Ethernet NIC. Tell me what I can do with these, and you are on my Christmas List. Regards Edit: Yep, got instructions how to set up USB. Seems like a right pain. Edit 2: Did a post on this : http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=8694

I think for me, Linux is something different. I have the feeling that it`s more a case of wanting to beat something that`s beating me at the moment. If I got it going with my USB modem, I`d probably feel quite chuffed, then put it back in the box. Regards Edit: Probably was your post squire. Unfortunately, Advanced Member means I`m getting old and memory cells are jumping ship.

I read somewhere recently that XP is gonna be supported until 2014. Although I haven`t had this pc for too long, I find myself looking around the shops at Mac stuff. A lot of the guys in these shops (and that includes PCWorld) lean more toward Mac than Microsoft. Not at all knowledgeable about Mac, but I`ve got plenty of time to find out. Then again, with the explosion of technology showing no signs of slowing down, no one knows what could be available over the next half dozen years. We could probably "beam" down to Humpty`s and help him empty his beer fridge. Regards Edit: Still not got my Ubuntu working with USB modem.
  22. Read that article you linked to JD. Seems that everyone but Microsoft realise they`ve taken too much for granted. Found this article on another page, that you might find interesting. (Assuming you haven`t read it already) Linux article Would like to get my Ubuntu working, but it seems a bit fiddly to get my USB ADSL modem working with it. keep putting it off. Sods law tells me that someones gonna post now and tell me its a piece of cake. Hope so. Regards
  23. rridgely, the man was nothing short of genius. Was a great fan until he strapped on an electric guitar, but still have a collection of all his early acoustic stuff. Pleased you started this thread, as it`s given me the impetus for a change of identity. Been getting a little tired of the Green Biker. Gonna pay tribute to a musical hero of mine. A man who was an inspiration to people like Dylan: Woody Guthrie. Thanks for the links. We are definitely on the same page. Also got a few Tom Petty albums. Man, you make me feel old. Regards
  24. There you go. Knew one of the LOEG would come up trumps for ya. Nice one Glenn Regards
  25. Chuckle Chuckle. My friend, my senses have been screwed up since you gave me that "music !" link. My eyes must be compensating for what you did to my ears. Regards
