  1. I never tried the update way John. Downloaded it from the site, and it installed over the older version with no problems. No idea about processes or memory, but the important thing when my son was stationed in the middle east recently, was that it worked great, with virtually no delay compared to telephone, where the delay was very noticeable, (as was the cost), and a perfect, unbroken connection every time we used it. Regards
  2. Hi edallen, I can only comment on what I actually use, and Yahoo mail (free), "does not yet have a Return Receipt feature". Regards
  3. Thanks JD. Just freed up 270mb of disk space. Regards

Hi ekim, and welcome to the forum. Recently spent some time finding free software for backing-up original DVDs. Here`s the forum link for my efforts. http://forum.CCleaner.com/index.php?s=&amp...ost&p=59745 Hope it helps Regards
  5. I recently downloaded Total Uninstall free edition from Andavaris link (thanks for that). Tried it for first time today and I thought it very quick for both the install and the uninstall. Previously when uninstalling some thing with either windows or CCleaner, I can always find remnants in Program Files, and in the registry. This time when I scanned registry with CCleaner and Registry Mechanic, the scans came up clean, and no files or folders left in Program Files. Does what it says on the packet. Regards
  6. can be found at :- http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/ Released 17/01/07. Version 3.0.0.205 Regards
  7. Well guys, I consider myself severely reprimanded, and if I had a wet fish I would slap myself with it. But (there`s always a but), although the spell checker box is enabled in options, Firefox has neva flagged a spelun misstayk. I now know why. I did not have a dictionary add on. Problem solved. One of you guys should have realised that instead of slapping me round the ear. (Metaphorically speaking of course). Regards
  8. This is one I`ve never tried. Will definitely give it a go, if only for the spell checker, which would have been nice in FireFox. Might have spellchecker in the next release. Regards
  9. Yep man, that just about covers it. Today I backed up everything to DVD, as I was planning a destructive recovery to clean out all the crap from the dozens of applications I`ve tried and discarded over the last 6 months. After doing that would probably be the ideal time to setup another partition. I liked the other ideas I`ve read in this thread. Partition for music, or in my case, downloaded art. I`m a big fan of art along the lines of Giger. Have found some amazing, wierd, bizarre, surreal and simply stunning examples of the power of the imagination. And some of it definitely scary. If anyone else is into Giger type stuff, will happily provide some links. I`ll let you know how I get on. Thanks Regards
  10. The raw sound of an engine that has stuck in my mind for a LOT of years, is Steve McQueens car in Bullet. A dark, Highland Green, 1968 Ford Mustang, being chased by a Tuxedo Black, 1968 Dodge Charger. (Wikipedia is my friend.) Regards
  11. Thanks for the links guys. Andavari, you must be psychic giving me a tamer link. I always listen as I browse through headphones, which are set at a decent level to listen to mostly accoustic music. Your first link took me to a band which redefined the term "LOUD". My ears are still ringing. Eldmannen, your "Songbird" link sounds more up my street, although I haven`t tried it yet. Thanks. I`ll give it a try when I can hear again. Regards
  12. by adding panning and zooming effects to your pictures. You can add Narration, Titles and Background Music to your stories. Have been using this for a while, and it`s the best of it`s type I`ve tried, as well as being very easy to use. And of course it`s free. Makes files that are that are small enough to send by email. Highly recommend. (MHO) Available from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/d...ry/default.mspx Regards
  13. 14. Hi rridgely, I`m picking your brains again here from your Nov. 23rd post re. partitions. (Yep, takes me awhile to get round this place). Since I cracked the DVD backup method, I find I`m fragmenting my HD a lot with saving and deleting these big ISO files. So therefore having to defragment more often. I`ve an 80gb HD, (big enough for me at the moment), with a 6gb recovery partition. Still 56gb free. My idea is to make a seperate partition, maybe about 10gb to use simply for Decrypter and then Shrink files. I intend deleting all files when DVD backup confirmed OK. A: Is this possible with gparted, which I`ve just dl`d but not installed ? B: Would this cause premature wear to this part of the HD moreso than the poss damage caused by too frequent defragmenting ? Thanks Regards Edit: Just dl`d the Paragon one as well to try.
  15. Linux: Thanks guys, the Ubunto site is a completely different animal to Puppy Linux. The other big difference is that the Puppy ISO is approx 68mb. Ubunto file I`m downloading at this moment is 698mb. Gonna take some time. Will order CD if this dl don`t work. That is some difference in size. Does that surprise any of you ? Surprised me. Will let you know what transpires. Regards
  16. Hi Cowboy, I`ve just coincidently downloaded, saved first, and then opened and installed Java RE 6 without any problems. What surprises me is that it doesn`t overwrite the previous versions. Maybe V6 is more of an update rather than an app. in itself. Anyone ?? How can you have 3 versions installed at the same time. V.5.0_5 is 151 mb V.5.0_9 is 119mb V.6 is 95.08mb Can I now remove the earlier ones ? Or are they needed for version 6 to function ??? Another possibility for you cowboy is the Sun Download Manager. It may sort your problem out. Available here: http://www.sun.com/download/sdm/ Regards
  17. Andavari, I love music. That`s gonna keep me busy for some time. Thanks Over the years I`ve listened to an unbelievable amount of dross from CD libraries and such, but occassionally you come upon an absolute gem that you`ve never heard before. Makes it all worthwhile. Regards
  18. It has struck me that there aren`t a lot of images posted in the forum. I`ll have to plead ignorance here and say I wasn`t aware that I could run out of filespace. Is there something in the forum rules or conditions I`ve missed ? Please let me know, and I appreciate your tip. I`ve been having a look at Image Shack. Regards Edit: I`ve just noticed "attatchment space used". Had no idea that was all you got. Assumed, obviously wrongly, that it would zero for next time you posted. My education continues.
  19. A couple of times I`ve been unable to preview a post, and when I selected "Post Reply", I got a blank page saying done, and when I tried to post reply again I unknowingly ended up posting same reply twice. Also had to re-log in quite a few times. No problem, but you did ask. I was wondering, until I noticed I wasn`t the only one, if it was because I was opening different pages and threads in different tabs. Regards
  20. Sorry it`s taken a few days to reply to your post, but a cracking find for me. I`ve been a science fiction fan since I learned to read. Never missed one episode of Babylon 5 or Farscape. Thanks
  21. if you`re looking for something new to listen to, as well as some of the more popular artists and bands. Listen to entire albums or single tracks, also videos. Lots I`ve never heard of, but also looks like the entire catalogue of people like:- Paul Weller, Stereophonics, Josh Ritter, Madness, Rickie Lee Jones and a guy I`ve listened to for years, Nitin Sawney. Worth a look. If you like singer/songwriters, scroll down and listen to "Hello Starling" by Josh Ritter. Simple but well crafted songs. http://gb.v2music.com/site/audiovideo.asp Regards
  22. and anyone else who hasn`t seen this amazing tribute on wheels called "The Hero Truck" Much respect. Regards
  23. Thank you kind sir, she looks different to her Mummy movie days. Slimmer, slinkier, and those eyes almost knocked me off my seat. Yep, Apocalypto is a cracking movie, and they showed the Blood Diamond trailer. I also noticed di caprios excellent South African accent. Although there may be a bona fide South African here who may disagree with that. Looks like another cracking movie. Thanks for the pic. Regards
  24. Re. Linux. Puppy 2.13 booted directly from the CD, got as far as setup interface, and then hung. Had a look round the puppy forum, and this appears to be a recurring problem with this latest version. Acquired Puppy 2.12, which booted up fine and took me through to the Desktop. Unfortunately, I couldn`t find any way to set up an internet connection. Appears, as far as I could ascertain, to have no support for my type of modem, i.e. ISDN Channel-Speedtouch USB ADSL PPP. It`s my USB type connection that it won`t configure. I have RealTec ethernet adapter installed, but not that type of modem. Unless, you can tell me something I`ve missed. Like a different, USB compatible version maybe ? Anyway, it was a good exercise, and my education continues. Regards.
