  1. i also would suspect a problem with the URL that is being used.
  2. i have seen "welcome screens" when installing ccleaner, and when updating ccleaner, which, for me, is doing a "dirty install," but they have not been repeating. i don't like seeing them, mainly becuase it makes me think that something is going to go wrong, but that hasn't happened, yet. anyway, i guess "piriform" (avast) just wants to be social, saying "welcome to ccleaner!" you can't fault them for that.
  3. in my case, when i run the software updater, i get "not connected to the internet." it worked fine, until recently.
  4. so you disabled "wipe free space" in ccleaner's "options"/"settings"? "wipe free space" also needs to be disabled in the options for "custom clean," in the "advanced" section. my advice is to disable ccleaner's "wipe free space." wiping free space is dangerous because it could erase things that shouldn't be erased. i always make it a point to disable ccleaner's "wipe free space" and i have never noticed its running on my computer when running ccleaner's cleaning process.
  5. ccleaner knows to remove files from the temp folders. "MSI" files are not an issue unless you have those in your "downloads" folder. the ones in your "downloads" folder can be deleted. incidentally, ccleaner has options for removing files in the "downloads" folder, though, personally, i don't use those. you might want to go through ccleaner's settings, in "options." it has options for not deleting files in the temp folders for 24 hours. you might want to disable that so that the files in the temp folders will be removed immediately. i think that removing files in the "temp" folders is critical. one time, i had problems with installing a program, caused by there being files in the "c:\windows\temp"-folder. after emptying the "temp" folder, on the advice of a tech-support person, the problem was solved. ever since then, i have religiously kept the "c:\windows\temp"-folder empty.

  7. this needs to be fixed by removing the cleaning of "Retail Demo Offline Content." @Dave CCleaner
  8. you can look at the releasenotes webpage to see what the current released version is: https://www.ccleaner.com/knowledge?c=release-announcement the latest current release is build 6.11.10455 there also are "announcements," here, in the forum, for the latest current releases.
  9. ccleaner does not free up memory. after doing scans with my antivirus programs, i notice that "task manager" shows that my compupter is uising more memory than usual. the only way that i know of, to free up that memory, is to reboot my computer. ccleaner's not freeing up memory is not a deficiency in ccleaner.
  10. jessicav it is not a problem. just untick the option for having ccleaner remove junk-files for teamviewer.
  11. i wasn't very clear in what i was saying. normally, when you run ccleaner, if "edge" is running, you will see a prompt, asking you if you want ccleaner to close it. you must have ticked the box for "do not show me this message again" which was why you were not seeing the prompt, asking you if you wanted ccleaner to close edge. i think that clicking "restore default settings," in ccleaner's "options"/"advanced," would restore the default settings, where you again would see the prompt, asking you if you wanted ccleaner to close "edge." you would see a similar prompt if "chrome" or "firefox" was running.
  12. here are two articles about disabling the bing desktop search bar, one of windows 10 and one for windows 11: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/203446-enable-disable-microsoft-edge-desktop-search-bar-windows-10-a.html https://www.elevenforum.com/t/add-or-remove-desktop-search-box-in-windows-11.7194/ seems to be the same reg-tweak, in both cases, for disabling the desktop search bar. note that, at least on windows 10, using the reg-tweak to disable the desktop search bar is not required. the desktop search bar itself has an option to simply "close" it, and it stays closed, where edge's background processes do not run in the background.
  13. with edge, to stop its processes from running in the background, in edge's settings, go to "system and performance" and, there, turn off "startup boost" and "continue running background extensions and apps when microsoft edge is closed." you also need to remove the "bing desktop search bar" from your computer-screen, if you have that on your computer, in order for edge-processes not to be running in the background. if the "bing desktop search bar" is displayed on your computer-screen, edge-processes will be running in the background, at least that was the case with my windows 10 computer. here is an article about the "bing desktop search bar": https://www.neowin.net/news/following-windows-11-microsoft-pushes-bing-desktop-search-bar-to-windows-10-via-edge/
  14. to fix the problem, go to ccleaner's "options"/"advanced" and, at the bottom, click "restore default settings." after that, when you run ccleaner, if edge is running, you will see a prompt, asking if you want ccleaner to close edge. as nergal said, another option is to set edge to where it does not have processes running in the background. the same applies to chrome and firefox: set them to where they don't have processes running in the background.
  15. their screenshot shows that ccleaner removed 41 firefox-cookies.. i think they are confused.
  16. when i run the software updater feature it says "it seems like you're offline. please check your internet connection and try again." i've never seen that problem, before, with the software updater feature. i am using cleaner build 6.11. incidentally, i disabled my HOSTS file, by renaming it "nohosts," to see if that was causing the problem, but disabling my HOSTS file didn't make a difference. maybe the avast servers are down, temporarily? i don't know.
  17. it seems that, now, something related to the teamviewer-cleaning is causing ccleaner 6.11 to crash:
  18. it will remove the various types of files from your "downloads" folder, if you select to have any of those removed.
  19. i think that the ccleaner releasenotes are referring to firefox from the microsoft app store, not the normal version of firefox that you download from mozilla. that is the difference, i think.
  20. i tried logging in again, just now, and the problem persists.
  21. there is a problem with the ccleaner forum website. when i try to log in, a new page opens saying "something went wrong. please try again." on the new webpage that opens, with the message saying "something went wrong. please try again," i am able to log in to the forum without any problems.
  22. i am thinking that is the problem. you are using a portable version of ccleaner.
  23. to fix the problem, try doing a clean reinstall of windows, whichever version of windows your computer uses. if you are unable to boot the computer, try "clear cmos." different computers have different ways of "clearing cmos." you would need to find information about how to "clear cmos" with your particular computer. one way to do it, if no other way is found, is, with a normal windows desktop computer, to remove the battery from the motherboard for a couple of minutes. of course, be sure to unplug the computer before fooling with anything inside the computer case, and allow some time for the power to dissipate after unplugging it. holding the power-button pressed for a few seconds, while the computer is unplugged, has been suggested, to dissipate the power, after the computer has been unplugged. (with my computer that i currently use, the motherboard has colored lights built in to it, which causes the power to dissipate after the computer has been unplugged, so, with it, i don't worry about holding the power-button pressed for a few seconds, after unplugging the computer, to dissipate the power. once the lights go out, i assume that all of the power has been dissipated) and, even with old computers, it is similar. in my experience, all of the motherboards that i have seen had a light that would indicate whether or not there was any power present. if the light wasn't shining, the power was dissipated.
  24. if what you are showing in your screenshot was from ccleaner then why would it have a button for opening ccleaner? i think the screenshot is from some other program and that is why it includes an option for opening ccleaner.
