now that you have uninstalled the pro version, try installing the free version. someone found that the driver-update-backups, used by the pro version, were causing ccleaner to open slowly: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/63026-ccleaner-gui-takes-too-long-to-launch-try-this/

yes. people have been reporting this problem for months, now, but it seems that no one at ccleaner is aware of it. here is a related thread: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/62464-double-installation-dialog-with-manual-update/ my solution for the problem is, rather than allowing ccleaner to update itself, i am uninstalling the old versions and then installing the new ones.

Performance Optimizer blank screen [fixed in CC6.0]
redwolfe_98 replied to Ronson's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
like nukecad said, the first thing would be to install the latest version of ccleaner, build 6.00.9727. you didn't say which version of windows you are using. if you are using windows 7, that could be part of the problem as it is unsupported by microsoft. also, some people who are running windows 11 have been having some issues, lately, related to "NETFramework": https://www.windowslatest.com/2022/05/11/kb5013943-may-2022-update-is-crashing-apps-on-windows-11/ -
Error 0x6 Trying To Update CCleaner
redwolfe_98 replied to ameWare's topic in CCleaner Help Requests
try uninstalling the version of ccleaner that you have installed and then doing a clean install of the latest version of ccleaner. lots of people are seeing problems with updating ccleaner, lately. hopefully, one day, someone at "ccleaner" will look into the issue. which version of windows are you using? if you are using windows 7, that could be part of the problem. -
Double installation dialog with manual update
redwolfe_98 replied to gemal's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
this issue needs to be brought to the developers' attention, so that it can be fixed to where, when updating ccleaner, two instances of the installation do not run, together, at the same time. -
i downloaded the slim build installer, just now, with no problems, using the firefox browser. the slim build installer is the one that i always use.

go to ccleaner's "options" and try adjusting some of the settings, there.
-
my advice is to not remove any of the "duplicate" files that are being found by cleaner, to just leave them alone.

what did cc cleaner just clean from my computer
redwolfe_98 replied to Randy654's topic in CCleaner Help Requests
mainly, what ccleaner would clean would be browser-caches and temp folders. it doesn't hurt anything to clean those. the only way that it would remove any other files would be if you used custom-settings to have ccleaner do that. one time (22 years ago, when i was a newbie), i had trouble installing a program and the vendor's tech-support told me, to resolve the problem, try emptying the "temp" folder, at "c:\windows\temp," and that resolved the problem(!). i have been religiously emptying the temp folders ever since. of course, that is accomplished by running ccleaner's cleaning process. -
i had a similar experience. once, not too long ago, when installing ccleaner, it automatically installed the chrome browser, which i didn't like. there was no option for opting out of the chrome-install; no mention of chrome's being installed at all. since then, i always use the ccleaner "slim"-install for installing ccleaner, assuming that, with it, no extra "crap" is going to be installed. i realize that the ccleaner installer will not install the chrome browser if the chrome browser is already installed. in this case, i was doing a clean install of windows 10 and i opted to install ccleaner before installing the chrome browser. normally, the chrome browser would have been the first thing that i installed, which, i suppose, is the reason that i never noticed the problem before.

Double installation dialog with manual update
redwolfe_98 replied to gemal's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
i have ccleaner set to check for updates but not to install the update automatically, so, when there is a prompt to update ccleaner, i then allow the updater to install the update. (i have firefox set the same way, to show when an update is available but to allow me to select to allow the updater to install the update) when there was an update for updating to build 5.89, and 5.90, i would see an error-message when the update was being installed, but the program seemed to be installed properly none the less. i didn't see the same error-message when installing the build 5.91 update. i think that was the problem, what nukecad said, that there were two instances of the update running, but i didn't notice that since the GUI's were on top of each other. the error-message that i would see was "couldn't initialize plugins," something like that. -
New to CCleaner - Nag/Privacy Issues
redwolfe_98 replied to Embeeous's topic in CCleaner Help Requests
i've been using "ccleaner" for 17 years, the free version, and i've never had any issues with it. i run "ccleaner" multiple times per day, to clear the browser-caches, cookies, history, and anything else. i only use the "custom clean" option for cleaning. in ccleaner's "options"/"privacy," you can turn off "see offers." you also can adjust other settings there, in ccleaner's "options." -
"windows defender" is not flagging the zipped file, now, so there is no need to report it to microsoft. the two detections at "virustotal" are based on heuristic detections, not on actual malware detections, meaning that the zipped file, with 66 compressed files within it, is "suspicious," not that it actually is malware. it comes down to, do you trust "ccleaner." still, you have to use your own best judgement. if something is flagged, you can check things out..for example, like you said, you could submit the file to microsoft to see what they say.. :)
-
i downloaded the zipped file and scanned it with "windows defender" and "windows defender" did not flag anything within the zipped file. i have seen times when compressed files were flagged as being malware when they weren't. you could unzip the zipped file and then scan the unzipped, decompressed files, and see if any of them are flagged. "ccleaner" is owned by "avast." it is not very likely that any of their files are going to be infected with malware. they are very good at detecting malware.

CCleaner could not be updated error message

i don't like that this new cleaning of the "windows subsystems temp files" ie the "SRU" folder has been added to ccleaner's cleaning. virtually all of the files within the "SRU" folder are updated on a daily basis, suggesting that they shouldn't be being removed. it doesn't seem like cleaning the SRU folder is needed. the files there don't use much space.

you might need to rightclick on the file and select "properties" and then, there, click "unblock."

Windows 11: Windows Explorer "Find" not cleared
redwolfe_98 replied to siliconman01's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
are you sure that you are looking at "windows explorer"? it looks more like something i would see when using "regedit," not windows explorer. i don't see a "find" in windows explorer, with windows 10. i see a "search," as in "search for a file." there is an option to clear regedit data under ccleaner's options for "applications." -
CCleaner not deleting Chrome cookies [Fixed in CC5.89]
redwolfe_98 replied to Haapy's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
"safeframe.googlesyndication.com" cookies have been an issue for years. you can do a google-search for "safeframe.googlesyndication.com cookies" to pull up information about the issue. i don't know how to tell you to resolve the issue except to give my advice to set your browsers to block third-party cookies, to use the "ublock origin" adblocker browser-extension, or the "adblock plus" adblocker browser-extension, instead. also, you could add "tpc.googlesyndication.com" to your hosts file, to block content from there, if you use a hosts file to block some content. supposedly "tpc.googlesyndication.com" is the source of the "safeframe.googlesyndication.com" cookies. it has been said that the "safeframe.googlesyndication.com" cookies aren't actually cookies but that they serve as placeholders for ads, similar to iframes. again, you can use google-search to pull up more information to read regarding the issue with "safeframe.googlesyndication.com" cookies. like i said, i don't really know what to tell you about how to resolve the issue. that is, to get rid of the "safeframe.googlesyndication.com" cookies. some people have said that they had to delete some files to get rid of them. here is a related thread: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/59324-ccleaner-not-deleting-all-cookies/ -
Running CCleaner breaking WIN 10 Screen timeout setting
redwolfe_98 replied to J Doe's topic in CCleaner
i was just saying that the way that i know to disable hibernation is the way that i said. i don't see an option for disabling hibernation in my power settings but maybe that is because i have it disabled. as for showing "never," for never turn off harddisk, maybe that is for people who don't know that "0" = "never"? i think that is why they show "never," there, for people who don't know that "0" is the setting to use for "never." as for ccleaner's allegedly somehow changing your sleep settings for your monitor, if you are using a third-party program to manage your power settings and it is storing it's configuration files in one of windows' temp folders, where ccleaner removes the files when it removes junk files from the temp folders, that is the only thing that i can think of. if that is the case, you could add the files to ccleaner's "exclude" list. -
with windows 10, the way that i do it, click the "start" button to open the menu there. then go to "windows administrative tools." then, within the "windows administrative tools" folder, click "defragment and optimize drives." you can run "trim" from there.

Running CCleaner breaking WIN 10 Screen timeout setting
redwolfe_98 replied to J Doe's topic in CCleaner
when you say that you restored the default settings, do you mean that you clicked the button that says "restore default settings," or do you mean that you manally adjusted the settings to where you though that they were the default settings? you need to click the button that says "restore default settings." as for the "turn off hard disk" setting, "never" = "0" ..so don't worry about it's switching from "never" to "0" as for hibernation, the way that you disable it is to use "command prompt" and run the command: "powercfg.exe /hibernate off" (minus quotation marks) on my computer, the default setting is for "balanced," not "performance." i am speaking from experience. after my power settings got messed up, i found that my settings would not be saved until i first clicked "restore default settings."
