  1. there is a new version available. here are the releasenotes for the new version: https://www.ccleaner.com/knowledge/ccleaner-v6-18-10838
  2. i would never try wiping free space. i did it once (not with ccleaner) and it trashed my computer. besides, i don't think that wiping free space is necessary when using SSDs.
  3. i don't think that there is anything to worry about, in this case. there was a breach regarding ccleaner's paying customers, but i would imagine that most of the information was encrypted, so nothing to worry about.
  4. i think nukecad gave some good advice which was, if ccleaner has some features that you don't want to use, don't use them.
  5. it is possible that you have ccleaner's "optiimization" feature set to put "google drive" to sleep and that is causing the problem.
  6. i wanted to let everyone know.. i decided to try out using a particular software-program, the "binisoft windows firewall control" program, and it said that it needed for the windows "DNS client" service to be running in order for it to function properly, in order for its "event-logging" to function properly, that is. i had the "DNS client" service disabled since it needs to be disabled when using a large HOSTS file, which i used. i went ahead and installed the "binisoft windows firewall control" program and i could see that the program was not properly logging "events" due to the fact that the windows "DNS client" service was disabled. so, eventually, i decided to re-enable the DNS client service, along with some other, related windows services that i also had disabled. the main point: after re-enabling the windows "DNS client" service, along with re-enabling some other, related windows services that i had disabled, ccleaner's "software updater," in cccleaner's "tools," was back to functioning properly. i should also mention that, since i had re-enabled the windows "DNS client" service, i had to remove the "HOSTS" file that i was using. the HOSTS file that i was using also could have been part of causing the problem where ccleaner's "software updater" feature was not working properly. i've noticed that, with windows 10, and i believe that it was the same with windows 7, microsoft tries to make it impossible to disable the windows "DNS client" service. so, i consider that, that microsoft does not want people disabling the windows "DNS client" service.
  7. you can avoid the problems that you are experiencing by not tweaking the ccleaner-program's regkeys.
  8. i don't believe that there ever are any duplicate files that need to be removed. windows does not generate duplicate files that need to be removed.
  9. if nothing else you can do a "clean" reinstall of windows, whichever version you are using. my guess would be that you used ccleaner to update some drivers on your computer and that that is what caused the problem. i believe that ccleaner has an option for rolling back driver-updates. i think that you also could try rolling back driver-updates from within windows "device manager." but, again, doing a clean reinstall of windows is a quick and easy fix.
  10. i agree with bastet, if you have used the free trial in the past, you won't be able to use it again. that probably is the problem, that you have used the free trial in the past.
  11. see this post: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/65260-cant-turn-off-auto-extension/?do=findComment&comment=343838
  12. there are no "pro" or "pro plus" versions for android. there is either free or paid. the free version is completely useless. you can pull up information about the "ccleaner" app for android at the "google play store." the authentic "ccleaner" app is offered by "piriform." https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.piriform.ccleaner
  13. it's been like that for a long time with the free version of ccleaner: it does nothing!
  14. i have the same problem, as do some others. "nukecad" might have identified the problem. maybe the problem is that, in the USA, ccleaner tries to connect to serrvers that are either dead or do not exist? as i have said before, ccleaner's software updater was working for me up until a couple of months ago.
  15. to pull up the releasenotes, go to "ccleaner.com/about us/release announcements": https://www.ccleaner.com/knowledge?c=release-announcement the "download builds" webpage has NOT been updated but you still can download the lastest versions from there: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds there also are "announcements" here in the ccleaner forum: https://community.ccleaner.com/forum/5-announcements/
  16. i've been seeing the same thing, after one of the recent ccleaner-updates. however it seems that what i am saying is being ignored and dismissed. on the other hand, i do tweak some things on my computer and maybe one of my tweaks is responsible for causing the problem, though, again, the software updater-thing worked fine, for me, up until one of the recent ccleaner-updates.
  17. sorry. posted the wrong URL: https://www.dnsleaktest.com/
  18. to add to what i was saying, because i use a large HOSTS file, i disable the "DNS cache service," something that is carried over from when i used windows XP. to do that, in windows "registry," i go to: "HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/services/dnscache" and set the "start" dword-value to "4," to disable the service. with windows xp, you needed to disable the "DNS cache service" when using a large HOSTS file. i don't know if that is required, with windows 10, but i assume that it is.
  19. if firefox is bypassing your HOSTS file it is because you have it set to use "secure DNS," also known as "DNS over HTTPS" (DoH). here is some information about how to disable firefox's "secure DNS," also known as "DNS over HTTPS" (DoH): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/dns-over-https#w_configure-doh-protection-settings here is a website where you can test to see which DNS servers your browser is using: https://www.dnsleaktest.com/results.html i use "quad9" for my DNS servers: https://www.quad9.net/ i use "example.com" to test to see if my HOSTS file is being used properly. of course, "example.com" is included in my HOSTS file. i use the "steven black" HOSTS file (including porn extensions), along with my own custom HOSTS file, merged together: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts
  20. if you use "secure DNS," that bypasses the HOSTS file. that is why i don't use "secure DNS." if google-chrome is set to use "secure DNS," it also will bypass the HOSTS file. if you don't want your HOSTS file to be bypassed, don't use "secure DNS."
  21. from what i have heard, ccleaner has opted to cut off their products from being offered in russia: https://www.ccleaner.com/knowledge/ukraine-statement
  22. in firefox's "about:config" you can set "browser.bookmarks.max_backups" to "1" where only one bookmark-backup will be saved. that is what i do.
  23. there is no need to worry about restoring the old bookmark-backups that have been deleted. firefox will generate new bookmark-backups without your doing anything. personally, i have always relied on my own bookmark-backups (not those that have been generated by a browser).
