  1. Have you somehow ticked this in the Advanced settings? Edit- Dave beat me by a couple of seconds.
  2. If you are talking about 'speechruntime' then it is known about, and yes Windows needs it so puts it back as soon as you remove it. If you insist on using the registry cleaner then when CCleaner finds it you can right click on it and make it an exception. It will still be there but CCleaner will then ignore it. See the second part of this for why some things come straight back after you clean them:
  3. LoL, at times we all need pointing to something that's already there. Hopefully we learn a bit new at the same time.
  4. Google Translation Your game is making lots of junk files when you close it - The 'Smart Cleaning' of CCleaner is getting rid of that junk. Why it is showing in your System Tray multiple times while it is doing that I do not know? (I do notice that spyglass is also showing 3 times, whatever app that is).
  5. Use Custom Clean rather than Health Check. Health Check does it's own thing and you cannot change what it does, it's meant to be a simplified option.. As the name 'Custom Clean' says you can customise what gets cleaned or not. And you can set different rules for different browsers. You can also set which cookies to keep or not, which is also what you are asking: https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047828672-Select-cookies-to-clean-with-CCleaner-for-Windows To set Custom Clean as your default go to Options>Settings and change the CCleaner home screen. Reading your thread title again I believe that you are meaning the automatic browser cleaning in Smart Cleaning; the advice is still the same because it uses the Custom Clean settings: Note that Health Check does not use those settings/rules, they only apply to Custom Clean. So if you run Health Check all your custom settings will be ignored.
  6. If you emal support@ccleaner.com explaining your problem they should be able to sort you out quickly. It helps if you email from the one you used to register, but I'm not sure if that is yours or your wifes? Anyway support can fix it.
  7. Well that's an advert. and I'm not sure just what any advert means but here is my take on that one for what it's worth. Driver Updater -That's a recent addition and will only function fully in the Pro version. (If you want to use it, no comment more than that). Health Check - included in the Free version, it's a Basic cleaning option if you don't want to go more advanced. Automatic PC cleaning - Called Smart Cleaning, there is a very basic option in Free but to use it fully you need Pro. Automatic Tracker Removal - what you asked about (and I'm guessing it's not what you are thinking?) - It depends what you call a 'Tracker' see this: https://community.ccleaner.com/topic/52668-tracking-files/?tab=comments#comment-300043 but there is no difference between Pro and Free if you are using Health Check, (Custom Clean, which is fully available in Free, can make a difference depending on what you customise). Faster Start up - Free can do that under Tools Startup, but need you to do it manually, Health Check will do it automatically under 'Speed' (a Pro option) every time you use Health Check. Priority customer support - What it says, front of the queue for support requests if you need to contact them. (TBH this user forum is usually fine but can't deal with anything licence related). Adverts can exaggerate; they are trying to sell you something after all.
  8. That is pretty odd why we are seeing different things in the free version. I do note though that yours is not showing the red symbol with the number of updates found. Which again would seem to indicate an older itteration of Driver Updater. I also notice that you have the large upgrade arrow showing below Options while I don't. Have you by any chance changed any registry entries, or maybe done a system Restore recently? I'll do some checking/testing here. (It might be my setup that is different, but Hazelnut's comment also suggests that you shouldn't be seeing it in Free).
  9. It can take time for the extra to show on your account, it usually gets added within a day though. From the documentation (about switching products but also applies to renewals of an existing licence): https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039530092-Will-I-lose-any-time-on-my-subscription-if-I-take-an-offer-to-renew-early-#will-i-lose-any-time-on-my-subscription-if-i-take-an-offer-to-renew-early--0-0
  10. Thanks for noticing that. I've found that if you untick/retick any of the items then the 'Save and Back to Overview' button does come up so you can then carry on cleaning. Why it's not showing without doing that must be a programming glitch, I've flagged it up to the staff and the developers are looking at it.
  11. In that case your CCleaner must be out of date. (The 'scan only' Driver Updater was only shown in CCleaner Free for a few versions, to tempt people to upgrade to Pro). Newer versions of CCleaner Free no longer show the Driver Updater, it's only available in the Pro version.
  12. No, Health Check uses it's own simple cleaning rules, rules that you cannot change. It's meant as a quick and easy option for those who just want a clean of 'common' things without bothering too much with changing settings. (It was actually called 'Quick Clean' and 'Easy Clean' in it's 2 earliest versions). So if you use Health Check it will always do it's own thing, - which includes clearing the Thumbnails. If you want more control of what does and doesn't get cleaned then you have to use Custom Clean only. The ticks/unticks for Custom Clean apply only to Custom Clean. If those ticks/unticks also applied to Health Check then there would be no difference between what the the two clean, and so no need to have the two. Any Includes or Excludes, Cookies to Keep, etc. that you set also only apply to Custom Clean. PS. The other 2 tools in Health Check - 'Speed' and 'Security' - can still be found/used in the Tools section of CCleaner - they are 'Startup' and 'Software Updater' respectively.
  13. Sometimes apps get stuck and you just have to abort them. (Done it hundreds of times over the years with different stuck apps) You could End Task on CCleaner in Task Manager. I'd also 'Restart' your computer. Or simply do 'Restart' which should tell you it's still runing and ask if you want to restart anyway. Is there a risk? I'm guessing it's stuck because it can't download the new driver from wherever. It can happen that the download is waiting for more input to continue - and CCleaner can't give it that input. As the computer is working fine apart from CCleaner being stuck then it shouldn't be a problem. Things are OK now and once CC is aborted it can't do anything. You might want to avoid trying to update that driver (any driver?) in future.
  14. It could be your antivirus/firewall that is blocking the connection. Can you tell us: Which Windows version (and build if Win 10) are you using? Which CCleaner version? What antivirus are you using? If it's not Windows Defender then what version is your antivirus at?
  15. It isn't an app; it's a settings file that can be used to add cleaning rules to CCleaner. It tells Custom Clean how to clean many apps that are not included as standard. And yes, it does include rules to clean Waterfox and adds it to the CCleaner Custom Clean menu. You should read the information on the winapp2 forum here and on github to get it set up for you computer. It isn't difficult. But it contains rules for cleaning hundreds of apps, most of which you won't have. So it needs to be 'cut down' to only include what you need or it will be slowing CCleaner down looking to clean things you don't have. Don't worry there is a tool that can do that for you automatically.
  16. What version of CCleaner are you using? Free or Pro? Older Free versions may show Driver Updater, but cannot update any drivers so showed a dot to indicate that limited functionality. With newer versions of CCleaner Pro the red dot simply shows that there have been drivers found to update, if your CCleaner is up to date then it should also show the number of drivers found. You can then click the icon and then 'Show drivers' to see what they are, and decide if you want to update any of them or not. CCleaner can tell you that there is a later version of the driver(s) that you have - but it can't know if you actually need that later version for your particular computer. YOU should investigate further just what they are, and you have to decide if you want to update them or not, you may not need that update on your particular computer. Just updating everything 'blindly' may/can cause problems. My personal view, and I know that it's shared by many, is that unless you are having specific problems with your computer then leave the drivers alone. If you are having a problem and think it could be a driver that needs updating, then check carefully and update that specific driver.
  17. First are you sure that it isn't supported? Which browser are we talking about? Non-Microsoft browsers that CCeaner can clean as standard are listed in Custom Clean under the Applications tab, if you have them installed. Of course there are lots of browser out there and not all are included as standard. You would need to add it to Custom Clean using the community supported 'winapp2.ini' add-on, - always assuming that it's one of the browsers that winapp2 cleans. If we knew what it was someone could tell you. (Health Check cannot be modifed). You can find more about winapp2 here:
  18. Your settings seem fine. As you say the system tray icon brush should flash when it is actually cleaning, and with those settings you should also get a notification when it has finished cleaning. I suggest the following. Try disabling Smart Cleaning, close CCleaner, open it again and re-enable Smart Cleaning. Open a browser and visit a few webpages then close the browser to see if Smart Cleaning runs now. If not then the next thing to try is to do a 'Restart' of your computer, that's a Restart not a shutdown/boot. (not sure it actually makes that much difference on Win 7 , but it does with 8, 8.1, 10, & 11 so in case someone with one of those is reading). Do the browser open/close again to see if Smart Cleaning is working now. If still not then: Download the 'Slim' installer 'ccsetup578_slim.exe' from here (it's the 3rd one down) and use it to install a new ccleaner over your existing one. https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds (It should pick up your Pro licence automatically but if not then click on the person icon in CCleaner Free's top right and 'Activate Licence', enter your existing licence key as asked then click 'Activate' - you might want to make a note of your key before starting, just in case). Do the browser open/close again to see if Smart Cleaning is working now. Reinstalling over-the-top using the Slim installer can often cure small annoying glitches like this, let us know how it goes.
  19. Could you post a screenshot of your Smart Cleaning settings so we can see what they are? A description of what you are seeing, or not seeing, that tells you that Smart Cleaning isn't running would also help work out what may be going on.
  20. It's not something to be fixed, it's simply the way that computers work. It's a common missunderstanding that gets asked about a lot. So much so that I wrote a post explaining just what 'Trackers' are, and why they and other files come back straight after cleaning. (It also explains why sometimes it looks like you have got rid of them, but haven't really).
  21. I think that most people know that if someting is greyed out then either - (1) it is not in effect, or (2) it is in effect but you can't change the settings. That is standard practice with software. In the case of CCleaner Free the Sceduling is showing the defaults - but if you look above scheduling is disabled so they cannot be in action. However if you upgrade to Pro then those are the defaults that will become active until/unless you change them.
  22. I'm not sure at all that you should be using that on a works computer. Putting licensing issues to one side. The files, and apps, on a works computer are different to those on a home computer so any cleaning needs to be different too. (That's one reason why CCleaner has business versions). It can also be a disciplinary matter to use unauthorised software on a works computer. Have your works IT cleared you to use it? Do they even know that you are?
  23. Is this CCleaner Home version or is it a business version? This forum is generally for users of the Home version, business versions obviously have to work differently.
  24. I'm seeing it here today as well. But for me it's not hidden, or even showing 'Optional', although it is below a line with a 'Download and install' button so not automatic. I'd forgotten that they'd done that hiding thing for optionals, maybe I'd permanently turned it off when they started it? I'll do it later, it's getting near pub time now and there's a few other things I want to do first (including a data backup before installing the update).
  25. Mystery solved then, - it was the Smart Cleaning that did it. Disabling Smart Cleaning should leave you alone in future. I believe that it is enabled by default when you first install CCleaner, Free or Pro. People asked for it to be that way so they could put CCleaner Free on a (usually elderly) relatives computer and know that it would be cleaning even if the relative never looked at it. With the Free verson you can turn it on or off for Junk cleaning (not for browser cleaning) but you can't change the default 'trigger' value that is greyed out. (Or change the action it should take which is also greyed out) However the greyed out value (and action) that you see may not be the same as my screenshot above. That's because I do normally use CCleaner Pro and may have changed them in there, so they'd get carried over but greyed out when I opened Free to take that screenshot. (I can't remember what they are set at by default). I think that it's similar with the Sceduler and the values greyed out there are simply default values, there has to be something in those fields.
