  4. @MeganCCleanerHaving noted that build is insider - 20H2 is supposedly very close to full release (next couple of weeks?) and any issue with that insider build may make it into the RTM. So at this late stage it is probably worth looking at in case it does make the stable build.
  5. Same blank page on Edge Chrome, so it's the builds page not the browser. @hazelnut The other 3 pages that I linked are in a circular loop each redirecting in turn to one of the others when you click on Free download.
  6. Yes I'm seeing the same on Firefox, I've added an edit to my post above.
  7. I can't speak for what's happening with Filehippo but on the main CCleaner webpages the free version is available as always: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner https://www.ccleaner.com/ All give a large green button to download the free version. There are diferent pages depending on how you get there, if you get to one that is offering the Pro version and you don't want it then simply click on "No Thanks" to get to the free version. Most regular 'in the know' users get their downloads from the builds page, and usually use the 'Slim' installer: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds EDIT - I see what Hazelnut is saying about the builds page. I'm seeing the same blank on Firefox. Maybe a glitch pending a new CCleaner version release?
  8. It's normal behaviour for a computer. Some cookies and files get recreated again straight after you clean, the files are empty and just waiting to be filled up again. CCleaner doesn't know if they are empty or not so just says that they need cleaning again. For a longer explanation of what these files are and how you can stop some (but not all) of them coming back see the link in my signature at the bottom of this post. (Give me a shout if you're on a phone etc. and so can't see the link)
  9. @MeganCCleaner Just to note that Windows build number is an "insider" build (the latest for the 20H2 October update). The latest 'stable' build is 19041.572.
  10. Just to explain those two options a bit further: "Run CCleaner when the computer starts" opens CCleaner when you start the computer, does a one-off clean and then closes CCleaner. It doesn't show the user interface onscreen it just cleans, you will briefly see the icon on the taskbar but you may not even notice it in all the other startup activity. It doesn't leave anything running in the background. "Smart Cleaning" runs in the background and monitors your computer for junk that is building up and/or for the closing of a browser. Because it is always running in the background to monitor for those events then you will see an icon in the system tray, you may notice the icon flashing if/when it's actually doing a clean. Smart cleaning uses your 'Custom Clean' settings to ensure that it doesn't clean things that you want to keep. PS. Smart Cleaning doesn't use a lot of background resources, on my machine it's using 8.6 MB of RAM and every 15 seconds or so uses 0.3% of the CPU for a second before dropping back to 0%.
  11. Creating a disc image in Recuva can take a long time (16 hours plus is not unusual) because it has to read and then re-write the whole of the disc including the 'unused' space. During the imaging process the computer cannot be used and once started the image creation cannot be safely stopped. https://support.piriform.com/hc/en-us/articles/204044064-Using-the-Recuva-Wizard#h_15c980c2-23ca-47e0-b818-67778267902b You don't say exactly what happened; but from what you do say it sounds as if you forced the imaging process to crash by disconnecting the drive that it was writing the image to. Crashing an active process unexpectedly like that, especially one that may be accessing things at the system level, is not a good idea and can lead to problems. (Sometimes it's the only way - but you always risk problems by doing it).
  12. I'm not sure if your Edge history cleaning issues are being caused by this Microsoft change of the default browser but they may well be. Win 10 pre-loads things and changes registry entries in advance of updates. You could try manually running Health Check instead of Custom Clean - but be aware that Health Check does it's own thing and so will not respect any custom settings.
  13. Edge Chromium is based on Google Chrome but modified by Microsoft - it is replacing the older 'legacy' Microsoft Edge. (which is what you have currently). You don't currently have it installed. You will probably offered (or made) to change in the next couple of weeks as the Win10 October 2020 upgrade rolls out. If you want to change now then just search for "install Edge Chromium". If/when you have installed it then CCleaner will show both versions, (because both will be on your machine but it will use the new one by default).
  14. Just to save others having to check - That's Legacy Edge. (not Edge Chromium). Automatic cleaning uses the Custom Clean settings. Do you have Internet History ticked for Edge in the Custom Clean settings?
  15. Check if you have Chrome synced as Hazelnut says. But most of those you list are advertising/marketing cookies. Like Nergal I suspect that they are being loaded by advertising on the MSN page. You could check that by opening Chrome without the MSN page and seeing if they are still loaded. Amazon.fr and Bing.com are search engines. (so probably loaded by Chrome as default). doubleclick.net is Google marketing. (so probably loaded by Chrome as default). unsplash.com is a Photo library. (expected on a news website like MSN?) Paypal is obvious. The rest are advertising/marketing. Are you using any Adblocker(s)? On the MSN UK homepage my AdBlock stops 4 ads, and my Malwarebytes Browser Guard stops another 2. Which seems to tie in with the number of advertising cookies that you are seeing. PS. It is not unusual for some cookies and files to return straight after cleaning. See the link in my signature at the bottom of this post for an explantion of why this is normal, and how you can stop some of it (but not all).
  16. I'm just wondering about the fact that this is Win10 Enterprise edition. Enterprise edition is for medium/large businesses/organisations. It is supposedly only available through Microsoft's Volume Licensing Programme and not normally available for individuals. (You can buy an Enterprise license as an individual, but it's costly and Pro would be a better option because the extras with enterprise would be of no use to an individual). Is this a works computer that your IT department may have set firewalls for, so that's why it can't connect to the Speccy server?
  17. Dunno, I don't have a machine with Win7 and am not sure how MSE interacts with it? So just trying ideas if noend7 is willing to do a bit of testing.
  18. Odd. Normally if CC installs but won't run then we suspect that the AV being used is stopping it. But MSE isn't known for doing that. I'm not sure how easy it is to turn off MSE in Win7 but it's worth a try to see if that is your issue. If it is, or if you don't want to turn MSE off, then try making CCleaner an exception/allowed in MSE which may allow it to run.
  19. Just for completeness, here is an example of when a forum pages CSS fails to load on Windows: Here's the same section with the CSS correctly loaded following a page refresh:
  20. I'm not sure, but still think it may be Win7 related. (MSE shouldn't be interfering, and MB4.2 Free is scan only so wouldn't affect installs). Windows sometimes has a habit of deciding certain CCleaner versions are not compatible with you machine, even though they run fine if you can get Past Windows and install them. Try installing v5.64 and see if that will work for you, I've attached the 'Slim' installer. ccsetup564_slim.exe
  21. I suspect that it may be Win7 related. Do you know what CCleaner version was running OK for you before you tried to update in August?
  22. It could well be an add on. Firefox has it's own "safe mode" to check for that - but in the end you have to disable each one in turn to find the offending one. (BTW I've not heard of anyone using hibernate with Win10 before. Some use Fast Startup which is a combination of sleep and hibernate; and is always suggested as the thing to turn off if you are having odd problems).
  23. Are you using Health Check or Custom Clean? Which Pro options are you using that you weren't using with Free? eg. Cleaning more than one user account will obviously take longer than just cleaning one account. When you say "keeps breaking off" can you explain what you are seeing?
  24. You have answered a thread from over a year ago. CCleaner does not just install the browser on it's own, you have to seek it out or accept an offer for it when installing CCleaner. As said above you can hardly miss the bundled offers these days - they have their own screen with very clear 'Decline' and 'Accept' buttons. Here is an example showing the AVG offer (I don't have one handy for the CC Browser but it's similar with the two big blue buttons). So if you have installed the CCleaner Browser without actively seeking it out, then you have accepted it from an offer. Maybe you just clicked-through without reading what you were clicking? (There is a very, very, slight possibility that you only saw the two blue buttons without the offer itself. If that is what happened to you they we would be interested to know). If you have installed it by mistake and don't want to use it then simply ignore it, or uninstall it as you would any other browser or application. To set which browser is your default browser- Open the browser that you want to use, go to it's settings, and select 'Set as Default Browser'. Alternatively open windows Settings, go to Apps>Default apps>Web browser, click on the browser that it shows and you will get a list to pick a different browser from. To reset any File Associations that may have been changed then you can either right click o a file and change what app that tyoe of file opens with, or go to Settings>Apps>Default apps>"Choose default apps by file type" and set it there. See this: https://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/how-to-change-the-default-program-to-open-a-file-with/
  25. The quick format should get the disc from the RAW format to a partioned format that the recovery software can read. As you have found most recovery software (that's available to non-forensic users) can't read/recover from RAW. Only once the recovery software can actualy read the partioned disc do you have any chance to recover any data from it.
