    Defrag.?

I run applications constantly in the background that fragment some of my partitions very heavily. I have scheduled Diskeeper to run once every night, and it usually completes within a few minutes. That's hardly any "wear/tear" on the disk compared with the I/O heavy apps that run 24*7.
  2. You can always send a PM to MrG, the main developer of Ccleaner.
  3. It is sometimes very useful to be able to try some software before buying it. However, it can be very dangerous to let certain trials expire. I remember very well when I once installed some Symantec trial, forgot about it, and let it expire. Windows wouldn't boot anymore, not even in safe mode. No way to uninstall it; only reinstall Windows from scratch!
  4. I don't think the IE7 beta is supported yet in Ccleaner.
  5. Anyone wanting to remain with TB 1.0, there is also a 1.0.8 version available at ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thu.../releases/1.0.8. As with Firefox, this will be the last update ever for 1.0.
  6. Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 is now available from http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/releases/1.5.0.2.html Other versions than en-US can be downloaded from here ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thu...leases/1.5.0.2/
  7. I also have deactivated jusched; that's the task checking for Java Runtime updates. It seems to be the task manager itself taking up most of that CPU usage; no problem therefore.
  8. Like what? ZoneAlarm? SpybotSD Tea Timer? Windows Defender? AV software? I run all of them at startup, and I do not feel any system slowdown. (I have, however, disabled dozens of other useless startup items by Autoruns).
  9. I think the question was about the Cleaner, not registry issues. There is, unfortunately, currently no option to delselect items from the analyzed list. However I think this is an excellent suggestion for a future version of Ccleaner. Have a checkbox on the left of each item (checked by default), and let the user deselect anything s/he wants to keep. On the other hand this list can be very long, especially when running Ccleaner for the first time. Maybe Analyze could run in two modes: Analyze with Checkboxes, and Analyze without Checkboxes.
  10. Where do you get version 4? I am still 3.5... I hope they won't bundle AVG and Ewido into one product; I like to have my choice anti-virus and anti-spyware products. Also some users have corporate-wide anti-virus ware installed, and multiple a-v wares on one computer is definitely not a good idea!
  11. I see now. Shared DLLs (Dynamic Load Libraries) are DLLs that are shared between multiple applications. When uninstalling applications, and they are no longer needed (as explained in my previous post), they may be deleted. However, sometimes references to these DLLs are still left in the registry, hence "Missing Shared DLL"s. Always let Ccleaner take a backup of registry entries to be deleted, in which case it is pretty safe to delete just about anything Ccleaner find. Happy Ccleaning!

    Backup

By default they go into the My Documents folder with file names cc_<date>_<time>.reg
  13. One more point: if you have many login names and passwords stored in cookies, be sure to configure the cookies to keep (Options, Cookies) before permanently deleting all cookies. Also, whether or not you run Ccleaner (Issues), it is useful to back up your complete registry from time to time. ERUNT is a very good (free) tool for that.
  14. Not quite clear what your question is. Do you have some missing shared DLLs, or do you want to delete some so they will be missing? When uninstalling software you are sometimes asked if you want to allow deletion of shared DLLs. If you are not 100% sure, better say No. If you have a recent full system backup, then you may reply Yes (which will allow you to restore if you deleted something by mistake). Welcome to the CC forum, by the way!
  15. How to use CCleaner By Jason Parker (4/17/06) Quick intruction to Ccleaner on cnet.com
  16. Hello, and welcome to the CC forum. I don't see any reason why you should not be able to install and run Ccleaner on a Windows Server.
  17. Win9x (including ME) is no longer supported by Microsoft, so you won't get any security patches for these old systems. The Internet world is a much more dangerous place now than when Win9x was created, so you will be forever at risk with these old operating systems. Although I do not use Linux myself, I would recommend a Linux-type OS over a Win9x OS.
  18. Running 1.1.0 did not seem to make any difference. However after running it again with 1.1.1, page loading seems a lot faster now.

    Suggestion

I agree; defragmenting is an entirely different business, and it should be best left to those who already do a good job in defragmenting. See my post from April 5 in this topic on how to obtain the free Diskeeper 9 Lite version.
  20. Well, both 1.0.8 and 1.5.0.2 updates contain security fixes, which clearly fix something that is broken. If you don't want to upgrade to the 1.5 platform, at least you should install 1.0.8 But here are some information why the Mozilla developers recommend upgrading to 1.5.
  21. Look for the date & time when the WD error occurred; you should find one or two entries in there that gives you an eight-digit hexadecimal error code. This error code identifies the exact reason what was causing the problem, and possibly also a resolution from the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
  22. That's funny; I downloaded and installed the April 2006 DirectX update from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...en&Hash=VPJNKCC. I checked the version prior to installing the update, it said DirectX 9.0c (5.03.0001.0904) After the update it is DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
  23. Downloaded the Intel Desktop Utilities package, extracted it, then installed Diskeeper Lite on another computer. Nice, clean install, and DK9 looks exactly as the DK9 Pro version I have installed on my computer (except that page file, MFT, and folders file defragmentation are disabled in the Lite version).
  24. This has been warned about in several other posts in this forum. If you delete hotfix uninstallers, you will not be able to uninstall any of them, including Windows XP SP2 and IE7 beta. You either have to go on with IE7 (which seems to be pretty stable, from what I've heard), or reinstall Windows. You could try the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, but I doubt that this will give you full recovery. General tip: when installing beta software, you are basically at risk, and you are at your own.
