It could be the same issue I had a while ago with the auto updater. I double-clicked the Ccleaner icon, and nothing happened. I opened the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and saw that the Ccleaner process was active, but apparently doing nothing. But a few minutes later it did open. After it opened I went to Options, Settings, and unchecked 'Automatically check for updates'. It has never happened again since then.

Bug: Can't remove old Jave runtime entry
pwillener replied to andreasm's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
Did you uninstall JRE 5.0 Update 5? -
If you have multiple volumes or partitions with large data, it may take a while to analyze.
-
Indeed! I have never been in the Tools section.

I am not aware that Ccleaner removes startup programs. Applications such as Startup Instpector do that, and they can also reinstate disabled startup programs.

There is a utility that does exactly this: DiskSpacePlus - it is very useful to find out what takes up large parts of your HD. It's free to try.

It removes all temp files related to Google Earth, including the cache.

CCleaner Listings Apps That I Don't Have Anymore
pwillener replied to Ultimate Predator's topic in CCleaner Bug Reporting
I also have various softwares listed under Applications that I either no longer have installed, or never had in the first place. I do not worry too much about them, except that with winapp2 the list gets pretty long. However, shouldn't that be something that Ccleaner "Issues" could try to clean up? -
I disagree; I wouldn't want to delete everything on my system. I want to keep a number of cookies of sites that I regularly visit. It can be configured under Options, Cookies, moving the ones to keep to the right. I want to keep recently typed URLs, so I uncheck that option. I want to keep auto-complete. I want to keep recent documents. Under Applications I want to keep recent documents for Adobe Reader and Office. Each user has different requirements, so I like that Ccleaner is highly configurable. It's worth to look at the options before running it for the first time. Ccleaner keeps all settings, so they can be refined after a user knows more about the various settings.

RC2 is stable for me

There will probably be many different opinions on your suggestion. I think that Ccleaner should continue to concentrate on what it does best: cleaning unwanted/unneeded files from the HD. The more functions that are added to the product, the more confusing it will become for the average user. But that is just my opinion

I think the vast majority of Ccleaner users never visit this forum (3000+ registered forum users vs. 12 million downloads). I think a trouble-free auto update for all users will make this product even greater.

I guess that the poster has a similar issue as my post http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?showtopic=3468 (Ccleaner not opeing while trying to autoupdate). Ccleaner should not wait (and hang) for autoupdate to complete, but do that in a separate thread.

In addition to rridgely's question, what do you do with Ccleaner: just regular file cleaning, or registry cleaning (Issues)?

It would be useful if the users who experience the System Restore problems would post what exactly they did with Ccleaner.

Answering my own question. Did a little experiment. There were two cookies for Firefox: search.microsoft.com and www.microsoft.com In Cookies to keep I have specified microsoft.com, but not search.microsoft.com or www.microsoft.com After running Ccleaner, both cookies were gone. So the answer is: I have to keep the full URL specification, not only the domain name.
-
I think what you mean is AutoComplete, not History or previous URLs.

Why aren't you notifying eBay abuse? I would do that if I were an eBay member and saw such activities.

A few weeks ago McAfee VirusScan identified most of my downloaded Ccleaner setup files as infrected (and deleted them without even prompting me!). They actually put a warning onto their website and corrected the virus definitions within a few hours. Have you checked the A-squared website if they have updated virus definitions?

I have seen this issue discussed in a different forum; maybe you can find some tips in here: http://forums.neoplanet.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=19443

Thanks for clearing this one up. I don't need the automatic update check, as I always update manually. Unchecked; problem solved

By default you see the 'Windows' portion of Ccleaner settings; you have to switch to the 'Applications' tab to see the Firefox cleanup options.

I have a number of cookies that I want to keep because they are on sites that I regularly visit. Now a large numer of them have two versions: domain.suffix www.domain.suffix Question: is it necessary to keep both (or all, as some have also other prefixes than www), or is the domain name alone enough for Ccleaner to keep everything with that domain name?

Good suggestion! I second that.
