  1. No, only on the files it deletes and does secure cleaning. But anyway, I don't use secure cleaning, so it's really none of my business
  2. Could it be the 'Menu order cache' in the Advanced section?
  3. Have you ever had such problems with other downloads? This is not normal - that you cannot obtain a file from different download sites. Something with your Windows seems to be broken.
  4. I don't think it's a good idea to save permanent files in the system's temp folder. I do have a C:\TEMP folder where I can keep things for a while, but this is not my system temp file, which is under C:\Documents and Settings. But you can always uncheck Temporary Files in the System section.
  5. No, I don't think so. I think it is a very valid suggestion for a future implementation. It is actually a weakness in the current implementation if it does not handle file slack. People may think they have securely erased all on their HD when in fact they have not. Even though I personally wonder what these people have to hide, and from whom...?

    index.dat files

What do you mean it misses the Index.dat file? I have mine removed after each reboot; that's the only way to remove this file.
  7. Do you see it actually downloading? And then it disappears? That is very strange, to say the least. Can you try an alternate download from http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ or http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html (note that these are the full downloads that contain the Yahoo toolbar; you may want to uncheck this during the install).
  8. I can tell you that this is not anything to do with CCleaner. Run HijackThis and post the report in this forum. Do not attempt to clean anything, just post the report.
  9. I don't know about your first question. Regarding temp files, CCleaner uses the %TEMP% environment variable to find what your temp folder is. In old Win9x systems it used to be C:\TEMP by default; most newer systems use now C:\Documents and Settings user subfolders. You shouldn't delete anything from the C:WINDOWS folder unless you know exactly what you are doing.
  10. You mean secure delete? Very good point - probably only MrG (the developer) can answer this at the moment.
  11. Each item can be disselected if you don't want to delete them.
  12. The previous poster wrote "Only the most recent set of patches is missing." That would hardly be 200+ MB...
  13. It is not enabled by default. You can set it under Options -> Settings.
  14. You can easily reinstall these missing patches manually, then your $hf_mig$ folder will contain all. A good reminder how important backups are!
  15. Very interesting! Thanks for the info on logoff script.

    Autoupdates

I have also been wondering about this. I have made a donation during the beta of 1.27, but I have never received any email. Receiving an update announcement was one of the reasons I donated.
  17. There is a new version available from the download site, although it has the same build number. There are also various KB articles that deal with various installation / update problems - see http://support.microsoft.com/search/defaul...ows+Defender%22
  18. Sorry for not being more clear. What I meant is that I would not try Thunderbird on an Exchange Server. Exchange Server is a modified form of IMAP that other mail clients (other than Outlook) may not handle correctly. On this (work) computer I use two email clients Outlook for business mail on the Exchange Server Thunderbird for my private mail using IMAP
  19. You can use Thunderbird to replace Outlook Express. But if you use Outlook Web Access, then you are using an Exchange Server. Exchange Server can only be accessed with OWA or Outlook. Thunderbird *may* work with Exchange Server, but there is no guarantee. Outlook is built especially for Exchange Server; TB is not.
  20. Why don't you just download the version without the toolbar...?
  21. I had the same issue some time ago. It was caused by network problems when Ccleaner tried to check for updates while starting. Reinstall Ccleaner and uncheck "Automatically check for updates to Ccleaner". Make sure that ccleaner.exe is not running when trying to install, as lokoike suggested in his reply.
  22. OK, that's a good assumption. So let's just look at this forum's users. There are 3,649 registered users; 70 of these have bothered to vote in this important poll, and 40 have voted against the toolbar. That is 1.09%. Now this shows how angry the world is about the new toolbar
  23. I have no idea how many people use Ccleaner, but the 14 million downloads give some indication to that. My guess is that several million Ccleaner users exist. Now we have a poll, and out of these several million users, 66 have voted. 37 have voted to get rid of it. Talk about nothing...
  24. I strongly recommend that you backup your registry before attempting any manual changes to the registry. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756
