  1. It's not my computer. If it was I probably would have did just that. Today is Canada Day. This is our day for fireworks like your 4th of July.
  2. I'm not even sure there is even a HP recovery partion to do this with. I can't get into the file system to look. Too bad about this because I really liked Returnil and now I don't know. It was definitely Returnil though that did it. There were no problems with the machine until the install of Returnil. The fact that Session Lock was not functional after the install indicates something went wrong with the install.
  3. Never tried that. What needs to be done?
  4. Tried the reboot after unplugging the power source and that did not work. There is no XP Cd for this machine (it's not mine) just the recovery CD's that will wipe everyhting and put it back to where it was when it was new. There isn't much to lose on the machine so it looks like the simplest thing to do is start over. We should have left everything alone. The version of Returnil that we had was working well. Thanks
  5. The cookies feature in CCleaner is not for Opera. If you select cookies to be cleaned in Opera it cleans them all. You don't need CCleaner to manage cookies in Opera. You can do it within Opera very easily. This blog post will tell you how and provide the buttons to do it with one click. Works great. http://my.opera.com/dude09/blog/2007/12/10...ed-cookies-list

    Opera 9.5 RC

I'm not having too many issues with 9.50. It's running well for me. I did have an issue with Windows Media video but I fixed that with a plugin.
  7. I decided to update to the newest version of Returnil. I uninstalled the version I had and rebooted the machine as prompted. This went fine. I then downloaded and installed the newest version and rebooted as prompted and again this went fine. No errors or strange occurrences during the uninstall or install. After the install I went into the Returnil GUI and started to set my options. It was when I was doing this that I notice the Session Lock feature was grayed out and could not be used. Other than that everything looked fine with Returnil and the computer in general. I started a thread on their forum about the problem with Session Lock and than shut down the computer for the night. The shut shut down went normal. No errors or anything unusual. This morning when I started the computer is when the problems started. The computer will not boot properly. It boots into the Advanced Options Menu. Normally when you have an issue after an install of a new program and the computer won't boot properly you tap F8 to get into safe mode by getting to the Advanced Options Menu. Well I have no problem getting this menu in fact it boots there on it's own. Problem is none of the options work. I select safe mode and hit enter and it looks like it's going into safe mode but just boots back to the Advanced Options Menu again. Same thing when I select Last Known Good Configuration. Keeps going back to the same screen. Any suggestions before I just reinstall Windows which I would rather avoid.
  8. These are my settings and I have no problems.
  9. I have only had the failed update once so far with Avira. I simply tried later and it was fine. If this was a daily thing I would have a problem with it but it was a one time thing. I have my updates scheduled for 6:00 PM Eastern Time and they are usually fine.
  10. Not getting worked up. Can't get mad about free programs. I have moved on. Avira is one machine Avast on another and AVG 7.5 still on two others.
  11. Their calling it a Service Pack? How Microsoftish of them I hope they do something about the resource usage and not being able to disable components than set the program to ignore the disabled state.
  12. Downloading at more than twice that here.
  13. 1. Hmm, I don't use butter so the peanut butter goes right on the bread. 2. I like it both ways but if it's a sandwich it's plain bread if it's just a slice or two it's toasted. It's also good on pita bread. 3. I use the smooth type. It's also sugarless and low fat or 0 trans fat. 4. You don't stop it from sticking so you wash it down with apple juice. It's peanut butter over here. Never heard it called peanut jelly before.
  14. You seem confused on what those programs are. They are all from Adobe but they are all different programs. You installed Foxit PDF reader. It's Adobe equivalent is Adobe Reader 8. You can get rid of that or you can keep it either way Foxit does what it does. The other Adobe programs are for other things their functionality won't be replaced by Foxit.
  15. Nice and simple for when a reinstall is necessary. I am on SP2 also and see no reason to change. SP3 offers me nothing I need so why risk a major disaster. When I need to reinstall why not install SP3? It would be foolish not to.
  16. What did you do there Dennis? Did you just start the install process to get a shot of the dialog? Are you still on SP2?
  17. Ignore that pop up. The official date that AVG will stop supporting AVG 7.5 is December 31, 2008. This is the official date from the sticky thread on the AVG forums. http://freeforum.avg.com/read.php?1,123812,backpage=,sv=
  18. Maxthon 2 has a download manager/excellerator built right in and it works great.
  19. IE7 Pro sure does make a huge improvement in the usability of IE7. Those guys did a good job and they keep improving on it to.

    Mazda RX8

I thought you were only looking at the RX8 because the wife wanted it. Not liking it was your chance at the S2000
  21. Nothing new you will notice. I see no need for SP3 unless I am reinstalling Windows than it will be so much easier to use SP3 instead of downloading 9.345 million updates.
  22. I use it for more than the spell check. It's the only tool bar I have or will install.
  23. I thought I was the only one that found Firefox's built in spell check annoying. I don't like check spelling as I type spell checks either. I prefer to finish what I want to type than check the whole thing at once. I use The Google Tool Bar for this.
  24. I have fixed this problem with Opera. Long story short Opera needs the FireFox Windows Media Player Plug in to play Windows Media. The Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library npdsplay.dll is what you have but you need np-mswmp.dll. I put this in and everything works now. Here is a support article form Opera about it and it has links to the plugin. http://www.opera.com/support/search/view/434/ I downloaded the installer and unpacked it with universal extractor. I didn't need this thing installing the plugin in FF because FF plays the videos well already. I unpacked it and than just pasted np-mswmp.dll into the Opera plugin folder. Than go to the options-advanced-downloads and look for wmv and select edit and make sure the FireFox Windows Media Player Plugin is selected.
  25. Well if you have a "brain cramp" or a household member opens an infected email and you don't have an email scanner your AV app will have a resident guard as I said earlier and it will treat that infected e-mail like any other infection so you aren't unprotected. The e-mail scanner is just an extra level of protection that is redundant IMO and not a necessity. In some cases it causes more problem than it's worth like quarantining or deleting your whole in box on you.
