  1. I haven't had any infections to clean up so I can't comment on that. Avira's detection rates are rated higher than both Avast and AVG from what I have read. As for the e-mail scanner or lack of one I use Gmail so I don't need one but if I used regular mail I still wouldn't use it because I know enough not to open bad e-mails and if I did the resident guard would take care of it so I would still be protected.
  2. Both. You can schedule your updates when ever you want or do them manually. You can also set them to be done silently in the background, minimized, or full screen when they are done automatically on a schedule. Scans are very quick.
  3. I asked you once if you were a blond female with big hooters and you denied it. You lied right Yeah if you go the Firefox addon site and select an addon you will see links to the addons home page. These home pages are very useful. They have tutorials/help files, forums, a way to report bugs, beta or pre release versions of the addon and some other info. Almost all the addons have a home page but the amount of info on it varies from addon to addon. If you use The All In One Side Bar you can right click on an addon and there is an option to "visit home page" and it brings you there. Look
  4. I have no doubt the reason you can play it is that you previously installed the codec. I installed it yesterday under Returnil and the video played. I can't figure out why my other browsers work without it though. They play the video fine it's just Opera that is the problem. This also just started because I could play video on Opera on that site fine before. To confuse things though I have had an issue with that site and Opera before but a reinstall of Opera fixed it but not this time.
  5. As far as resource usage there is no comparison. Avira is much lower than Avast. Avira uses 3 process totaling 10MB on my machine. Avast has 5 processes (you can shut some of them off though) and uses any where from 30- 50 MB of RAM. Both are much better than AVG 8 and neither is as good as AVG 7.5 as far as resource usage goes.
  6. I am having issues with the spell checker on the Google Tool Bar on FF3. It activates and lets you check spelling but than I can't shut of the spell checker. I have to reload the page. PITA
  7. You can get those and beta versions from the developer's sites. I always look at the developer's sites first anyways.
  8. Dennis in that second screen shot how do you get to that I forget
  9. Are you having issues playing any Windows Media with IE7 or just that site? IE7 plays it fine on all my machines. Just Opera is giving me problems.
  10. Hmm. Works On FF2 and FF3, Maxthon1 and 2, IE7, and Avant for me. It's just a problem with Opera.
  11. Here is what I did. I turned on Returnil and than installed that plugin that I get prompted to install. The videos worked. It doesn't give you the option to save it and than install. That way I could see what it is and where it goes. It only gives you the option to run it or not. It's a video codec called WMV-9-VCM RTW. If I need this to run the video why does the video work in all the other browsers?
  12. How do your other browsers work? I posted on the Opera forums and some of them can play the videos but they were using Vista.
  13. I didn't have the problem a few days ago. I just started getting it when I installed the latest security patches for Windows. I don't know if this is coincidence or if the site changed something or what. I clicked the link in the download prompt to get more info and brought me here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx
  14. As much as I like Opera this gets to be a PITA!!!! That site periodically does this. Usually a reinstall of Opera fixes it but not this time. All my other browsers work fine so it's not the machines it's Opera. I have the WMP Plugin yet I get prompted to download another plugin. Here is a screen shot. To top off this BS we are having a hail storm in JUNE!! I swear if there is a god first thing I am going to do when I die is punch him right in the mouth!!!
  15. I noticed since I installed the recent updates from Microcrap I can't play these videos with Opera. This is on 4 machines with 8 installs of Opera so this is not a machine specific thing. Just click the video links you will see them on the right under "Multimedia Center" They are Windows Media. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/ They work on all my other browsers.
  16. IE just had an update last week. Came out with the rest of Microsoft's fixes on Patch Tuesday.
  17. That's the whole point of that addon. I think you probably could have got that site to work in Opera to just by changing how Opera identifies it's self.
  18. Not really. IE Tab disaplays the page inside FF using the IE engine. You were actually looking at the page with IE inside FF.
  19. Is that freeware? I took a look at the site and it looks like you have to purchase it.
  20. I figured out why I don't have the big back button. I am using All In One Side Bar and I had to change the install rdf to make it work with FF3. This is the cause. I disabled the extension and the big back button appeared when I set FF to use large icons.
  21. Two things here. 1) You can get rid off that pop up on the Avira updates very easily. Just follow these instructions. http://www.elitekiller.com/files/disable_antivir_nag.htm 2) The reason you couldn't delete the start up entry is probably because of the feature that Avast has that protects it from being altered by a malicious program. I couldn't even delete the skins I downloaded and tried out because of that. It's easily disabled so you can delete things. Go to the settings. You can get them from the Menu or right click the tray icon. Once in the settings go to "trouble shooting" than "disable self defense module". Now you can alter Avast.
  22. I am using the portable version for the main reason of wanting to test out FF3 without messing up my FF2 install which is working perfectly for me. I can simply down load Portable FF3 again and just run it from any folder I choose without touching a single setting and see if the button issue still exists but I really don't care. I set the buttons to small icons any ways so I will not see the big back button. I was just curious why I wasn't seeing it when I set FF3 to use large icons.
  23. One of those sites that only works in IE. In Opera set Opera to identify or mask as IE and see what happens. Go to the site and right click and select "site preferences" than on the "network" tab you will see an option to change how Opera identifies it's self. Set it to identify or mask as IE and than reload the page or just leave the page and try to enter it again.
  24. Opera launches instantly for me. Much faster than FF. You can get a custom button and place it on the tool bar that will toggle java script off and on with a single click. That + site preferences will do what you want. No
  25. Not using Vista and my screen shots are the default theme.
