  1. This has been discussed before and as far as I know won't be implemented because it's simply not feasible due to fact applications stores their information differently. Richard S.
  2. bots / trolls don't feel pain Richard S.
  3. If the device doesn't have a drive letter in Windows then Recuva or any other recovery program won't work, however if the deleted files exist on a memory card then using an external USB card reader maybe your only option. Richard S.
  4. Since you had a login page using the gateway IP address it's highly likely the wireless router has correctly assigned an internal IP address. If you've recently added your router to the cable modem you much cold reboot your cable modem (i.e. turn off, wait 10secs, turn on). Richard S.
  5. Recuva doesn't leak personal information although it may connect to the internet to check for updates. As for your missing photo you're going to have to provide us with more information i.e. I downloaded it from the internet, opened it from an email attachment, or had it stored in a folder called "kittens" etc. Richard S.
  6. It would help to know which files are actually fragmented rather than looking at the total fragmentation. Run Defraggler "analyse" and then click on "File list" tab for further information. Richard S.
  7. Abandonia has a collection of old Windows / DOS games, whether they'll appeal to kids is another matter. Richard S.
  8. If your computer is connected to a NAT router there is no "backdoor pass" because no services are exposed to the outside. Therefore any exploits must be done from the inside, i.e. ARP poisoning (re-routing network traffic to another local machine), infected USB drive, bad web sites, infected email attachments or installing cracked software. Even if Microsoft plugged all the security exploits to the operating system it won't stop malware or virus infections by other means if the user gets careless. That is why my personal view on Microsoft dropping XP support won't change a single thing and I certainly won't be panic buying Windows 7 because even they get infected. Richard S.
  9. There was an explanation on this forum about Vista / Windows 7 but I'm having no luck finding it, however the following forum link should suffice. Richard S.
  10. Speccy gets most of it's data from WMI queries however it does low level probing of hardware i.e. graphics cards and hard drives. It's possible that you have hardware or drivers that don't appreciate being probed and thus your machine freezes. You could try running Speccy with /debug parameters and see if the logs could indicate a possible culprit. Start, Run: "C:\Program Files\Speccy\Speccy" /debug (run with included double quotes as shown) Richard S.
  11. What make and model is your router and wireless adapter?? Does Windows take ages with assigning an IP address?? When you run ipconfig /all what is your gateway IP address and assigned IP address?? Does your router have mac address filtering enabled?? If you enter http://(gateway IP address) i.e. http://192.168.1.1 into a web browser do you get a login prompt?? Richard S.
  12. Sysinternals PageDefrag should be fine just don't use next boot defragmenting because your machine will take longer to start Windows per boot. Richard S.
  13. It's a common problem with Vista / Windows 7 machines, to recover lost space just clear your system restore points. Richard S.
  14. What other web browser are you using?? Do you have any add-ons that block ads or scripts?? Richard S.
  15. I couldn't care less if Microsoft dumped XP support their updates have mainly been for plugging security issues with internet explorer and outlook express which I never use anyway. As long as you have a hardware router, software firewall and some AV/HIPS software you really don't have anything to worry about. People may laugh but I quad-boot with NT4 and 98SE now and again, do I sound bothered just because they're unsupported OSes?? I'm sure Windows 7 is a nice and Microsoft would like my money but to be honest I've always preferred functional over flashy when it comes to computers. Richard S.
  16. As far as I'm aware CCleaner removes files from commonly used temporary folders providing the files are not exclusively locked. Richard S.
  17. Each program has their own idea of good files or bad files you cannot really judge the abilities of CCleaner based on your results. As for "Find Junk Files" I've never heard of it and personally with a name like that I wouldn't want it on my computer. However I did some searching and found cnet's download page with lots of negative comments, i.e. deleting files it shouldn't and screwing up Windows. Richard S.
  18. What version of Windows are you using?? Richard S.
  19. I wrote and complied a simple PoC (proof of concept) key logger using a program called AutoHotkey. It auto starts via the system registry - HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run which is a common location for malware. If I run my tool after Zemana has started it detects low level access to keyboard, however when auto stated via the system registry it does not. I can only speculate that either Zemana takes a certain amount of time to initialise it's security layer or just executes too late. The way I see it Zemana really only provides protection against malware that tries to run in it's presence not if they've already started. Richard S.
  20. 128C is definitely not correct therefore it would appear Speecy for some reason has collected erroneous data. If you want to check this against another program the try SpeedFan however it's possible this would also show similar results. I suspect there's no built-in temperature sensor for Solid State Drives since there's no real need to monitor temperature. Richard S.
  21. Recovery isn't always successful, this happens to regular hard drive's not just solid state drives. Richard S.
