  1. It's an interesting forum bug but not sure why it's showing my name on the board when I am technically logged in anonymously. Richard S.
  2. As far as I'm aware only moderators and admins are permitted to view the online list this was the same with previous versions. Richard S.
  3. Cut and paste is annoying too I seem to gain extra lines when I paste into Microsoft Office 97 it never did that before with the previous forum software. Richard S.
  4. It's trialware krap, nice MS Office knock-off and PDF converter though. Anyone tried Open Office yet?? Richard S.
  5. Is it really that hard to change the colour scheme for the forum and the favicon?? Richard S.
  6. I don't like the new forum design and it would appear that: a) profile images cannot be web linked anymore b) profile images are now defunct and replaced with avatar images (judging by Dennis' profile). I though forum software was meant to add features not take them away. Richard S.
  7. How do I change my avatar image I can only find "change your photo" under profile settings?? Richard S.
  8. The trouble with ISPs they p*** around with your web connection that it's hard to tell whether what you're seing is for real or proxy cache. I did a host lookup via my US shell account and it gave me a totally different IP address: 216.146.38.113 However looking at the error screen it would seem to suggest the website is changing the hosting company but not the website (migrate). bofh$ host -a www.pixpipeline.com Trying "www.pixpipeline.com" ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 30297 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 5, ADDITIONAL: 4 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;www.pixpipeline.com. Temps wrong?

The temperatures are in range although a CPU above 60C may suggest insufficient air flow inside the casing. The processor temperature does vary depending on demand i.e. the harder it works the hotter it gets. Richard S.
  10. Are you using a 3rd party DNS service?? Open a DOS Prompt (cmd.exe) and type: nslookup www.pixpipeline.com do you get 66.29.95.236 or something else?? Richard S.
  11. Fastest Tube is a strange name for a plugin when all it does is download YouTube videos I was under the impression it was a 3rd party replacement for watching YouTube without crappy flash. Firefox also has an equivalent plugin called DownloadHelper it supports most flash sites proving they're not using rtmp protocol like the BBC iPlayer or rtmpe (encrypted rtmp). Richard S.
  12. If a device lacks a drive letter when connected to your computer it's highly likely to be a MTP device and not support with Recuva or other recovery programs. Recovering lost or deleted files requires direct read access to the file system unfortunately MTP does not implement this requirement. If your memory card is removable then a USB card reader should be able to get around the read problem. As for the "What Recuva can and can't do:" it needs some updating: - Recuva cannot recover from MTP devices - Recuva cannot recover files from a hard hard if the partition table is damaged / deleted or corrupted. Richard S.
  13. Google, Yahoo, Baidu, Bing, Yandex etc are search robots trolling through posts belonging to the forum. They appear in the userlist as recognised bots but not as user accounts since you cannot click on them. Richard S.
  14. Doesn't "Defrag Freespace" move this file?? Richard S.
  15. I like warning labels too especially on a bag of nuts - warning may contain nuts Richard S.

ntbtlog.txt is missing because it would appear that kernel hasn't got as far as loading yet. Just out of curiosity if you boot XP using Safe Mode, do you see a list of names scroll down the screen or does Windows just reboot?? As for service pack I can't really tell from KBs I need them in bytes but not to worry I have another idea. Using the Windows file browser navigate to C:\Windows\System32 find ntoskrnl.exe and right click "Properties". Select the "Version" tab and then "File Version" you should see something like 5.1.2600.3093 (xpsp_sp2_gdi.070277-2254). What is the sp number?? Using Hiren's BootCD Program launcher could you access "Programs", "Process" and "Dependency Walker". With Dependency Walking go to "File", "Open" and select ntoskrnl.exe via c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe This program basically loads an executable and checks for problems such as manifest errors (Side by Side), and libraries dependencies i.e. files being missing, corrupted or wrong version. If Dependency Walker gives the all clear then I'm afraid I'm really out of ideas. One last thing could you open c:\boot.ini with notepad does it look something like...? [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect Richard S.

Alan is right you ran chkdsk in read-only mode it doesn't need to dismount C drive to run. When starting the DOS Prompt do not "C:" if you do the DOS Prompt gets a handle on C drive and chkdsk.exe won't like it. If you specify a drive with chkdsk.exe it checks that drive i.e. chkdsk.exe c: /r @oh boy could you access the XP boot menu screen again and select "Enable Boot logging". When XP loads and reboots your computer start up Hiren's Mini XP again and look for the following file: c:\windows\ntbtlog.txt Does it exist, can you open it and find the last few entries?? Could you tell me the file size for "ntoskrnl.exe" and "ntkrnlpa.exe" this should help determine which XP service pack is installed. Also the hard drive in the machine is it SATA or IDE?? Richard S.

enter the following from the DOS Prompt (cmd.exe) c: cd\windows\system32\dllcache If successful your screen prompt should be C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache> the next command is (please take note of the spaces and dots) copy *.* .. exit *.* refers to all files, the .. refers to previous directory which in this case is system32 Richard S.

The reason for your boot problem appears to be corrupted files inside system32 the dllcache folder contains backup copies which Windows normally replaces if it detects a problem. If you copy all files from ddlcache into your system32 folder there's a very slim chance that the corrupted files could be replaced with good ones. Unfortunately ntoskrnl.exe and ntkrnlpa.exe are not included since a kernel cannot overwrite itself while loaded Do you know which XP service pack this machine had installed?? Richard S.

STOP: 0x0000006F (0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000) Session3_Initialization_Failed This is a very bad STOP code it would seem to indicate that certain files needed to start OS are badly corrupted unfortunately chkdsk.exe, fixboot, fixmbr won't resolve this problem. My suggestion would be to try and overwrite the system32 folder with dllcache backup files and see if that works. Start, Run cmd.exe c: cd windows\system32\dllcache copy *.* .. Richard S.
