  1. Most modern AVs from my experience can't be fully disabled while in the normal mode of Windows. The reason being they'll still have drivers running in the background that have nothing to do with stopping real-time protection or services associated with them.
  2. I remember Dell gave us a 1.2 megapixel camera with our purchase of a Dell PC back in 2003. I took one picture with it saw how horrible the quality was and put it back into the box to never use it again, that was back when film cameras were still considered much higher in image quality.
  3. That's an old Murcielago. New Aventador please.
  4. Always helps to be very precise and tell the computer to go to Earth's moon, wouldn't want it to go to one of Jupiter's moons instead.
  5. The same for me, but many years ago. Now I use both Comodo Dragon and Firefox Portable.
  6. I wish my car gave the illusion of being a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
  7. One could say that about most software not just Pale Moon, eventually they'll pull the plug.
  8. CCleaner already cleans those, however you must enable it under Advanced: Cleaner -> Windows -> Advanced: User Assist History This is what it cleans: [User Assist History] ID=1023 LangSecRef=3004 LangRef=3128 WarningRef=3206 RegKey1=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{5E6AB780-7743-11CF-A12B-00AA004AE837}\Count RegKey2=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{75048700-EF1F-11D0-9888-006097DEACF9}\Count RegKey3=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{CEBFF5CD-ACE2-4F4F-9178-9926F41749EA}\Count RegKey4=HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist\{F4E57C4B-2036-45F0-A9AB-443BCFE33D9F}\Count
  9. Most installers that include something bundled with them (in this case Google software) will get flagged by 1 or more of the scanners. That and supposedly Piriform uses NSIS which itself will sometimes produce an FP. If you wish to avoid FP's, etc., use the Portable versions which are available in a ZIP archive. ______________ Onto Nergal's asking of ClamWin -- it triggers mostly on files compressed with UPX, it triggers so often I began to completely ignore its results. Funny thing is using ClamWin Portable (Windows) it doesn't give an FP against the same files it gives an FP on multiple scanning sites, but those scanning sites are using the Linux version.
  10. Any software that deals with "video" is immediately upon my radar of suspicious because so much of it comes with adware bundled inside.
  11. Probably good advice is don't support adware projects, find another free alternative that's clean.
  12. What type of drive or device is it? I know some people have reported that it won't work with certain devices, etc. Also see the documentation: http://www.piriform.com/docs/recuva
  13. I also prefer MPC over VLC and MPlayer. MPC has always had less playback issues. Although VLC Portable is good to burn onto DVDs with compressed videos, or FLAC lossless audio on them.
  14. Although we know it isn't and never has the deceiving problem is some forums "claim it is," and they even write winapp2.ini cleaning routines to remove certain malware.
  15. That's why I only choose the portable version of so many different titles since: * They don't bother with any bundling. * It's much more difficult for them to sneak something onto the system since it isn't packed into an installer
  16. I wouldn't even bother wasting a drill bit, I'd take it outside and chuck it in an old metal tin barrel and set it on fire.
  17. As soon as you clean Internet Explorer will re-create short folder names such as those, etc. Open any folder on your system and Internet Explorer is also involved. just the way it works and it is a part of the OS. Also CCleaner empties out the index.dat files, it doesn't delete them thus not requiring a reboot to delete otherwise locked files. DOMStore is used by many programs, so something you have installed could create files/folders. If you wish to clean DOMStore look into the community winapp2.ini cleaning file.
  18. I'd personally do what mta has suggested and format that disk you want all data destroyed on. Then if you plan on selling off that hard disk or computer and only then would I do a Wipe Free Space which will do 1-pass. There's also DBAN, but you should disconnect any hard disks you don't want it to nuke.
  19. Perhaps have a read here, and explain exactly which one you used either Drive Wiper or Wipe Free Space: http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/using-ccleaner/wiping-free-disk-space
  20. I don't fully understand the need for %ReadValue1% to tell CCleaner where Steam is located in the registry. CCleaner can detect by both files and the registry, and it can also do both within one cleaning routine. However if you don't install into the default expected path where a software suggests during setup you will be out luck with CCleaner detecting and cleaning that software. Edit: Or CCleaner detecting the software if for instance in the registry but not knowing where the paths are to clean. I don't know if this will give you what you're wanting or not (If not ignore it), however here's an example of how it works with a DetectFile and Detect in one cleaning routine: [Steam Big Picture Cache*] Section=Games Detect=HKCU\Software\Valve\Steam DetectFile=%ProgramFiles%\Steam\Steam.exe
  21. That will come in handy when someone emits an EMP and destroys all electronics.
  22. What I use: * This old WinXP Pro SP3 computer. Microsoft and nobody else can convince me to "upgrade" as of yet. * PS3, I use this mostly for games and videos. What I don't use, but still have in working order: * PS2. I'm really only keeping it to play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. * Very old Win98 computer, I'm only keeping it to play old 1990s games but need to find a dedicated space for it. Wait for that new Metal Gear Solid game to be released on it, maybe a few years wait though because the PS3 version "part 1" will come first. And also Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS4, I'll buy a PS4 just for those two games I've mentioned.
  23. Mine by Dish Network automatically adjusts itself for the strongest signal, for instance if it rains long enough to weaken the signal it will literally reboot itself and readjust. And I fully agree with DennisD, old standard definition content (movies, games, etc), looks much better on an "old" analog TV ("standard definition TV"). I know on some gaming forums from years past people used to say the PS2 looked awful graphically, if only they could see those same "awful looking" games on an HDTV set into the proper 480i picture mode they'd fully witness the true definition of awful looking.
  24. With this being a common theme with people loosing hard disk space after using Wipe Free Space I wish Piriform would code into CCleaner the ability to delete those left over files - even if someone cancelled the Wipe Free Space, perhaps prompt the user it will reclaim the used space and then do it.
