  1. - I think it's much simpler than that. I think RECUVA doesn't want to unnecessarily reduce the lifespan of a SSD by writing info to the SSD. RECUVA is primarily meant to recover deleted files. - Where's that "available page pool" located ? On the flash drive as well ?
  2. - I am surprised Tweaking didn't ask money for the program much earlier. - He's a computer repairman himself, so he knows what he needs regularly.
  3. Windows Repair version v3.0.0 released. The old features are still available in the free version. The PRO version contains a number of extra features but then one needs to buy a license key. The PRO (paid for) version now has 2 extras: - It allows the user to run a user defined script (*.bat, *.vbs) or run a *.reg file (to make changes to the registry) after all repairs have run. - It allows the user to add extra locations (to be cleaned) to the build-in (in Windows itself) "Disk Clean Up" tool. Post your comments/suggestions on the forum of the "Tweaking.com" website. http://www.tweaking.com/
  4. Could still have "security holes".
  5. - I can't imagine Defraggler deliberately wipes System Restore Points (SRPs). But I don't have intimate knowledge of the program. What I do know is that Windows will start to delete SRPs and other temporary files when it detects there's too little free disk space. - Defraggler needs to read & write A LOT OF files and that could lead to the file cache growing to a GIANT size. When the amount of "Free" memory space (See Windows' "Resource Monitor") goes down to zero (and even before that) then Windows starts to move data from the memory to the pagefile. And when that pagefile keeps growing then I could imagine that at some point Windows starts to delete one or more SRPs. - Was Firefox running when you did a full defrag ? Firefox occupies LOTS of memory and then I wouldn't surprised to see the pagefile grow like mad.
  6. Technicians Toolbox v1.0.0 released. http://www.tweaking.com/ http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_technicians_toolbox.html
  7. I think the GUI of the tab called "Exclude" ("Settings" >> "Options" >> "Exclude") can & should be improved. - Currently the user can't switch this "Exclude" function/feature off. To switch that feature off DF needs an extra option called (e.g.) "Enable Exclusion" on the "Exclude" tab. Then the user is able to select whether DF should defragment only a selection of e.g. folders or simply defragment EVERY (defragmented) file/folder (in spite of having a list of folders/files to be excluded). - I also would like to see that the "Exclude" windows (on the right hand side in the picture) doesn't close when the user has added a folder or file (=clicked on "OK") to be excluded from defragging. Then the user can add another folder/file to the "Exclude" list without the need to re-open that "Exclude" window. - Remove the "All drives" option in the "Exclude" window. I have a proposal of how these 2 windows could look like in a next version of DF. The proposed changes are inside the 3 red boxes. See attachment.
  8. Just open the GUI of MSE or Windows Defender and see if there any possibilities to tweak the program. (Is that possible ? I don't use MSE/Defender).

  10. In Win 7 & Vista there 2 programs to defend one's system against malware: Windows Defender & MS security Essentials. In - at least - these 2 OS these are complementary programs, both have a separate task. In Win 8 (and I assume in newer OS as well) "Windows Defender" combines the functionality of the "old" Windows Defender & MSE.
  11. Are those computers behind a router ? If so, then that on its own a "Infection killer".
  12. Try if selecting "Files only" would do the trick. Perhaps you also can use a combination of folders & files added to both the "Include" & "Exclude" options.
  13. BRITEC tested a number of AV programs and MSE didn't do "too well". BRITEC was not surprised and calls MSE "rubbish". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp6ytxMgckg
  14. My MS Works Suite 2003 (installed on my Win 7 laptop) got corrupted today. I was forced to re-install the entire Suite. (still have the DVD). Tried "Microsoft Updates" again but that seems to be finally gone. But I was surprised to see that Windows Update offered ALL the updates for the MS Works Suite 2003 without any problem. So, if you still have the Original MS Office DVD then I would presume that a (removal &) fresh re-install of MS Office would trigger Windows Update to offer all the updates again.
  15. Suggestion: - Try the following: rerun CC with same option but now with only a single pass. Shouldn't take too long (only 1 GB right ?). Let the program run until it's finished (don't do anything else). Report back if this helped. Windows has a number of "tricks" up its sleeve that could help you to regain that memory this way.
  16. Seems like CC v5.02 has switched back to the "Message Box" feature (like in CC v4.18).
  17. Bug in CC v5.02. It's another language related problem. I switched the language from dutch to english but some text still shows up in dutch. This time in the "System Restore point" screen. See reply #9 in this thread for a full explanation: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42257
  18. @ All: - Defraggler has an option to disable the VSS Service while Defraggler is busy. VSS is somehow triggered by running Defraggler and then creates one extra System Restore Point. - Use Ccleaner to delete one or more System Restore Points. @the developers of Defraggler: I think Defraggler should ALWAYS (temporarily) disable the VSS Service when the program is busy.
  19. But I still would like to see an option called "Move files to the end of the drive". Then the user can - in combination with the other existing options move selected files to the end of the drive. Then Defraggler will have evolved into a GOOD disk/file organizer program. "Move files to the end of the drive" option: I DO hope it will be added to Defraggler !!!!!
  20. This "Free upgrades for win 10" fits into a larger pattern. MS has done a number of things to discourage the use of older Windows versions: - pull the plug on "Microsoft Update". (see http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=42923) - pull the plug on free downloads of *.ISO files for e.g. Win 7. (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/566303/microsoft-digital-river-iso-downloads-gone-for-good/) (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/566980/where-to-download-a-legal-copy-of-windows-7-home-premium-oem-iso/) But then MS also has to encourage the use of the newest version of their Win 10 operating system. And that's - IMO - precisely the reason why they offer this free upgrade. It sounds to me that they're very well aware of the (large ??) amount of (inevitable) bugs in the new version(s) of Win 10.
  21. @SeaTac: "All system restore points are deleted automatically except the newest one." I am curious because, as far as I know, that's impossible. I know one can do that manually, but "Automatically" ?What option in CCleaner did you use to achieve that ? How did you do that ? If one uses the option "Wipe Free Space" then ALL those points will be deleted.
  22. - I tried to find "Microsoft Update" again today but it seems this feature/website/ ........ has been pulled. - Did you perhaps install win 7 on a system that came with Vista ? Then I can imagine that MS won't offer those updates/drivers for your Win 7 system. Perhaps the manufacturer of that hardware has those updates on his website ? - MS has a special part where one can download updates for MS Office. This the german home page for MS Office products: http://www.microsoft.com/de-de/download/office.aspx and use the search feature. But will MS allow those updates to be installed on your Win 7 system ? My experiences with MS Office 2003 in combination with Win 7 doesn't make me very hopeful. All things put together, it seems MS, this time, is very determined to push/force the user to other/newer (& paid for) MS products.
  23. - What did the "Advanced Update" do in Vista ? Download new drivers for some hardware components ? And/or download updates for other MS software ? e.g. MS Office ? - I still use MS Works/Office 2003 on my Win 7 laptop and when I activated "Microsoft Updates" (NOT "Windows Updates") then I received the updates for MS Office 2003. MS still had them. - I also received (after the latest re-install) driver software for my touchpad & screen hardware. And I received an update for my laser printer after installing the software. But I didn't receive new software updates for e.g. the network adaptor. Like I did when I still had my XP laptop. The story above suggests that there aren't any driver updates available for your hardware. I also installed my Win 7 system using an unpacked *.ISO file from a USB stick.
  24. No, this isn't a "Workaround", it's one of the features of the "Normal" defragmentation !!! But you've stumbled upon something confusing in Defraggler. When I correctly read the documentation then the "Quick Defrag" options are for the "Quick Defrag" defragmentation and not the "Normal" defragmentation.
  25. @Norel: Did you use the options under "Quick Defrag" & "Exclude" (Settings >> Options) ?
