  1. - This is not the first time a Win 10 user had these kind of problems. - But the most recent version of Tweaking's Windows Repair (v3.50) is able to fix those problems. Run it before you re-install or re-upgrade Win 8 or Win 10. The latest version was just released earlier this week. http://www.tweaking.com/ and report back if it was useful. Because it will help other users as well.
  2. - A Windows 10 installation/upgrade leaves a number of/too many "loose ends" when it comes to permissions. But the new Windows Repair v3.50 (WR) ties up those loose ends. - The new WR takes less time to run the permissions repair(s). - I do think a number of problems with Win 10 as reported on this forum will be solved by running WR. - DO check the change log for more info !!!! http://www.tweaking.com/ Hopefully MS will adress the Win 10 bugs in the next new Windows 10 ISO file. (Another reason why I'll wait a while before even trying Win 10).
  3. Another sign that Win 10 is a rush job and that Win 10 doesn't pay too much attention to a thing called "Permissions".
  4. Here's how to remove those spying features (incl. a manual one) in Win 7 & 8. http://www.ghacks.net/2015/08/28/microsoft-intensifies-data-collection-on-windows-7-and-8-systems/ GHacks has A LOT OF useful hacks/tweaks.
  5. "75 million Win 10 users" http://www.ghacks.net/2015/08/27/windows-10-stats-75-million-devices-6x-more-app-downloads-per-device/
  6. I came across a program that seems to turn off a number of those "Spying Features" in Win 10. http://www.ghacks.net/2015/08/05/donotspy10-configure-windows-10-privacy-settings/
  7. - One word of caution: today I downloaded the "Media Creation Tool" (MCT) and it wasn't the same size as a previous MCT. Could be of importance. - I am glad I know have the "Windows.ISO" file. (Yeah. This was my 1000th post here on the Piriform forum).
  8. The picture in the attachment gives some clues what more system files can be fragmented upon start up with DF.
  9. Or CCenhancer (not supported here) ? Or did you such a program in the past ?
  10. http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/07/28/microsoft-windows-10-should-you-upgrade/ - I will follow the given in this article and wait for a more stable Win 10. - Windows on a Phone ? Isn't Windows simply too "heavy" for a Phone ? How many windows phones are (still) sold and around ?
  11. "Windows 10 Worst Feature Installed On Windows 7 And Windows 8" http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/08/30/windows-10-spying-on-windows-7-and-windows-8/ Ouch. And my Win 7 system has 3 of them. I hope I can remove them ...........
  12. - Windows 7 and newer have an additional registry hive called "Components", located in "C:\windows\system32\config". - Same story for a new hive called "Drivers" in Windows 10. When the user has told the latest version of DF to defragment a number of system files then these files aren't "touched" and not defragmented at all. I think this is a useful addition to the next version of DF !!! Are there more system files that can defragmented upon start up ???
  13. Windows Repair version v3.42 released. Windows 10 posed a problem when it came to setting permissions of the registry. Although a lot of bugs were fixed it's not quite clear that all "Permission" related issues have been fixed. So, any new bug reports are VERY welcome. Post your bug reports, suggestions, thoughts, experiences etc. on the Tweaking.com forum, NOT here.
  14. Another bug in DF v2.19: I have a 4 GB MicroSD card (with a FAT file system) and on that disk are 2 defragmented directory files. DF does defragment all the files on that disk but DF still continues to fail to defragment those directory files.
  15. Excellent link from "Ten-Forums" !!!!! Explains a lot. So, a Win 7 product key is valid for Win 10 as well.
  16. How MS would handle the product key when one migrates from e.g. Win 7 to Win 10 was not quite clear for me and one of the reasons why I hesitate to try Win 10. But one article (on a dutch website) made it clear what's going to happen. One is recommended to upgrade from e.g. Win 7 to Win 10 first because then Win 10 will "convert" the Win 7 product key to a Win 10 product key ??? After that one can do a clean Win 10 install with the same (new ????) product key ??? That also assumes that a new product key is issued/generated for Win 10 without charge (if one installs Win 10 before july 29 2016) ??? Can anyone confirm this ?
  17. - From the "How to Geek" link: "Not only has Microsoft spent less time stabilizing and bug-testing the release version of Windows than ever, .............. " Doesn't sound too well. So, the users are meant to help MS to iron out the bugs ? I guess I'll only install it on my other laptop I rarely use. But I am not in a hurry to do so. - @MTA: the "Media Creation Tool" didn't do anything funny with your system ? Did it clean up all the extra things it installed (I saw some extra folders were created). - Or is MS going to roll out more than one download version ? No, I am not going to waste a DVD on this download. A USB stick will be useable more than once.
  18. Windows Repair v3.30 released. Now with support for Windows 10.
  19. But lowering prices undermine profits.
  20. Lower prices don't necessarily attrack more buyers. ;-)
  21. Oh No. When I look at a number of things I come to the conclusion that "the end is nigh" could very well apply to MORE things than one can imagine. Regarding Apple: I DO think Apple realizes that they can run out of buyers one day and are trying to find a new revenu source.
  22. Apple is annoying its users. (And I thought it was limited to Microsoft). http://www.forbes.com/sites/ewanspence/2015/07/25/apple-music-damaging-reputation/ Then Apple wants to the check balance of one's credit card and based on that info advertisements will be shown for products that one can afford. http://market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=230392 http://uk.businessinsider.com/apple-patent-for-e-commerce-and-mobile-advertising-system-2015-7?r=US&IR=T
  23. Windows RTM released: http://www.winbeta.org/news/windows-10-news-recap-rtm-released-campaign-announcement-and-more One can already pre-order Win 10 on a USB stick. But those sticks will be shipped from august 16th onwards. http://www.winbeta.org/news/pre-order-windows-10-usb-drive-amazon-available-august-16th
  24. - When did you use Defraggler for the last time ? Compare that with the dates & times when these files were created. - Run Defraggler another time. Does it create more of those files (look at time & date created & modified). - Run Piriform's CCleaner to delete a bunch of files.
  25. - And what happens when you click on "Operating System" in the navigation pane to open the "Operating System" screen ?
