  1. Microsoft recommends to remove a number of updates. They have problems with those updates. http://www.infoworld.com/article/2835571/microsoft-windows/microsoft-says-best-way-to-fix-botched-kb-2949927-patch-is-to-kill-it.html A number of things gave a clue that even MS has problems getting the updates right - I downloaded the latest stand-alone updates and some had the letters "-v2-" or "-v3-" in the name. It clearly suggests that those updates had to be updated/improved/were a bit buggy. - the name of the update. The name of the update started with a (comparatively) low KB number. Something was fishy. - some updates weren't available for downloading http://www.infoworld.com/article/2834535/security/four-more-botched-black-tuesday-patches-kb-3000061-kb-2984972-kb-2949927-and-kb-2995388.html http://www.infoworld.com/article/2607451/microsoft-windows/microsoft-ships-replacement-patch-kb-2993651-with-two-known-bugs.html
  2. Topic: Odd "Clean Recycle bin" behaviour. Yesterday I moved some 6 GB of data/files to the recycle bin of my USB harddrive. Today I used CC to clean the recycle bin. The odd thing is that CC didn't detect that 6 GB of files on my USB drive when it analyzed my system today (of course, with the USB drive attached). But when I put CC to work to actually clean the Recycle Bin then CC also detected that there was a Recycle Bin on my USB drive. and yes then CC took some time to empty that Recycle Bin on my USB drive. Is this behaviour (not detecting the recycle bin on my USB drive when analyzing) normal ? Does it matter that I have a USB 3.0 harddrive ? The drive is supposed to be USB 2.0 compatible.
  3. - If you select a line then does the text on the buttons on the top right hand side show up black characters ? Sometimes the combination with other installed programs interferes with Ccleaner form working properly.
  4. Photodata shows all the Metadata of photos. http://www.alexnolan.net/photodata And there's a program that can erase that metadata: JPG & PNG Stripper: http://www.steelbytes.com/?mid=30
  5. (I have posted this suggestion before. Nag, nag, nag) I still would like to have scrollbars on the right hand side of the Defraggler screen for the tabs "Drive map", "Search", "Health" & "Statistics" when the amount of space is insufficient to display all information. Just like the tab "File list" has (also on the right hand side). Another suggestion for DF is that DF also could make suggestions whether or not the SMART values have risen/fallen to a dangerous level. Like the program "GSmartControl" (GSC) does. If the SMART values have reached a dangerous level then GCS shows those values in a red (redish) highlighted line. (GSmartControl, http://gsmartcontrol.sourceforge.net/home/ )
  6. - Make a snapshot with Speccy and post the link to the snapshot in the next reply. - Run "GSmartcontrol" and post a screenshot of the "Attributes" tab in your reply.
  7. Are the names of programs (that are behind "pcalua") familiar to you ? Do you have those programs installed ? If not, then disable or even remove those lines.
  8. Depends on what kind of defragmentation Defraggler must do. If you want to defragment the entire disk then more free space the better. If you only want to defragment the fragmented files then Defraggler needs less free space.
  9. I agree regarding the cleaning of the registry. (Does CC allow the registry to be cleaned upon startup without human interference ??) I also disagree. Windows places the files for the updates in the "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder and from that folder the updates are installed. Unless one let CC wipe that folder as well, using CC shouldn't have an impact on the Windows Updates.
  10. Latest CC v4.18: - Get rid of the option "Wipe Free Space" in the main pane ("Cleaner"). - Move all the "Wipe Free Space" options from the "Settings" (under "Options") to the "Drive Wiper" section. That's the place where ALL the "Wipe free space" stuff should be. The new "Monitoring" section. 1. Use more meanigful words for these options: E.g. - "Active monitoring for Updates". - "Active monitoring for disk cleaning" 2. Make the option "Active monitoring" independent from the first option.
  11. But who wants to read that documentation on line ? How many people do that anyhow ?
  12. It checks whether or not there's a new version of CCleaner available. Did you tick the option "Enable Active Monitoring" ?
  13. - Lots of confusion about the new version of CC when I surf around on this forum.
  14. - Piriform still needs to make that link point to the proper newest version. - CC's GUI needs to provide a better explanation to make the difference clear(er) between the 2 "Monitoring" options. I was confused as well. (Who reads those manuals nowadays, right ?).
  15. Apple's iOS 8.0.1 was so full of bugs that it was pulled. http://news.filehippo.com/2014/09/ios-8-0-1-update-pulled-due-problems/
  16. I'll continue to search what program causes this behaviour but it's not a pressing issue any more.
  17. Problem solved !!! Should have thought of running CC in Safe Mode before. I ran CC in Safe Mode and this odd behaviour didn't occur. In that regard, it's not a bug in CC. So, some other program interferes with CC but which ?? I know now, I can't blame CC for this behaviour. (Yes, using Safe Mode is very useful. It has helped me more than once to solve problems.)
  18. Excellent idea. Update1: No, running the portable version doesn't change a thing. Even restarting CC doesn't help. It only occurs when I restart my laptop. Update2: When I click on the "Context" or "Task Scheduler" tab first then this behaviour doesn't happen. Update 3: I use IE 11. Would that make a difference for the program code ? Somehow CC detects something (registry setting, internal variable, ...... ) that prevents it from activating the buttons in the proper state. Need to do A LOT OF research more. It's going to take some time to see where the program goes "off the rails". (I know, it's NOT a matter of "Make or Break").
  19. (I am on a dutch Win 7 Pro system). Odd. Very odd. Even weird. And I am NOT making this up !!!!!!!! Perhaps some value gets written to one *.ini file, or a value written in the registry ? And then reset to its Original value after closing CC ? Because it only happens the first time I use CC. When I use it for the second time it never happens any more. See the pictures in reply #11. It's also not language dependent because it occurs in the english & dutch language version(s). Perhaps restarting your XP machine will let this odd thing occur (again) ? On what (system) variables is this feature (greying out of the buttons) dependent ? Perhaps some other program on my Win 7 system interferes with the greying out ?
  20. The bug - as reported in the previous post - hasn't been fixed in CC v4.17. I selected "Tools", "Startup", "Windows" and selected/highlighted one line. CC still refuses to activate the 3 buttons on the top right hand side of the screen. Those 3 buttons remain greyed out. Only when I select one other line and then return to the previous selected line then CC only greys out one button (as it should).
  21. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-29203776 Cool. Play a game on a printer.
  22. Is the recently issued security update (KB 2993651) a replacement for this erroneous update ?
  23. New Cleanmem version available. (v2.5.0) http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem
  24. Never had a problem with this update on my Win 7 system. But I removed it anyway. Just in case. Did the BSODs show up in Win 8 only ? Now I understand why some (security) updates aren't available (anymore) on the MS website. I have downloaded every Win 7 update and I intend to slipstream all the updates. (Haven't found the time to actually do it yet).
