  1. Topic: Search function. I DO think this is a flaw big enough to call this a BUG !!!! When I let DF (v2.16) let do a search for a (defragmented) file then DF closes the "Search" tab and opens the "File list" tab that only shows the fragmented files !!! Instead of showing the files that DF found in the "Seach" tab. Now I have to re-open the "Search" tab again. Only then DF shows the files DF found (both defragmented & fragmented). Needs to be improved, IMO !!!!
  2. Regarding MSSE I came across this article: http://www.howtogeek.com/173291/goodbye-microsoft-security-essentials-microsoft-now-recommends-you-use-a-third-party-antivirus/ Any thoughts, any one ?
  3. I tried Qttabbar as well. But Clover is simply better.
  4. Clover 3.0 http://download.cnet.com/Clover/3000-2248_4-75732861.html http://ejie.me/ A plug-in that adds tabs to Explorer. Makes handling of files & folders MUCH more easy. I am actually seriously thinking of dumping XYplorer Why didn't Microsoft add this feature to Explorer ?

  6. New program available at www.Tweaking.com: A tool that makes it more easy to change firewall rules. Check it out. http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_%28right_click%29_allowblock_or_remove_windows_firewall.html Post your comments/suggestions/bug reports on the Tweaking.com website forum. Not here.
  7. Another thing that can be improved in the next version: CC v4.08 can show, besides the user defined Tasks in Task Scheduler (TS), also the MS defined Tasks in TS. These show up when I tick the box "Advanced Options" on the right hand side of the screen. Thumbs up for CC !!!! But this box should be moved from the right hand side of the pane/screen to the bottom of the pane/screen. That way, the entire text belonging to that box/describing the funtion of that box does show up on the screen in its full length.
  8. I used the previous version. (I just downloaded the latest version). To confirm the results of Everything I alway do a "Dir c:\....." search in cmd.exe. I can't remember which files were missed but there were a few overlooked. (complicated stuff with the "System32","Syswow64" & "Winsxs" folders and all the redirection that's going on.(Symbolic links etc.))
  9. EVERYTHING overlooks files in the Windows system subfolders. I use it but I don't trust it too much.
  10. "Registry Backup" version v1.6.8 released. The program now supports Win 8.1. http://www.tweaking.com
  11. Topic: System Restore Points (SRP) Thumbs up for CC v4.08 !!! When I select a SRP and hit the "Delete" button on my keyboard then the button "Remove" is greyed out/blocked BEFORE CC removes any SRP(s) (info). This is the way I like it and the way it should be. And this was missing in previous versions.
  12. Were sales for these AVs "a bit slow" ???
  13. CLEANMEM doesn't clean the memory, it reduces memory usage of programs running. And that allows the file cache (in the "free" part of the memory) to grow more. Windows fills that cache with files the user frequently uses. Then Windows doesn't need to retrieve those files from the harddisk which is relatively/very slow, in comparison with movements in the memory itself. See e.g.: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/windows-7-memory-usage-whats-the-best-way-to-measure/1786
  14. I must rewrite my previous post. People who had problems with Win 8 and ran Windows Repair (WR) in an attempt to fix their problems noticed that when "Reset Registry Permissions" was run, the App Store "broke down". The new WR version seem to have a fix for this "breaking down". I used the word "seem" because I don't have Win 8 and that's why I can't test it. But perhaps there're people on this forum who did test it ? @Hazelnut; thank you for your kind words. I take it as a compliment for all the work I've put into WR, I helped to trace many a bug, gave suggestions how to improve the program (code). And over time it has morphed into something nice & very useful. The thing I like most is that WR provides a tool to set the start up state of a number Windows Services to my own liking. I disabled a number of Services that I simply don't use and need on my XP & Win 7 system.
  15. @MikeW: Not even with large files ? Then perhaps the combination with other programs are causing MSE to slow down. It wouldn't the first instance where there's a "clash" between two or more programs.
  16. For those who have problems with the App Store in Win 8: Try the new Windows Repair v2.1.0. Perhaps it will help to solve your problems as well. Post your comments not here but on the forum of the Tweaking.com website. http://www.tweaking.com/ http://www.tweaking....all_in_one.html
  17. Another bug: Speccy v1.24 tells me that "Windows Defender" (WD) is active. I don't know on what basis Speccy thinks WD is active but I can tell you that I have disabled the WD Service called "WinDefend". WD is NOT running.
  18. According to the Facebook page of "Tweaking.com" the new MSE is much faster than previous ones. Quote: I want 3 things from an AV for my customers. 1. Free 2. Won't slow the system. 3. No nags, toolbars or any crap to try and make money off my users. So I was using Microsoft 2 years ago, v2 I think. And it was horribly slow. Opening an 11 mb file took 11 sec to open on brand new machines and during that time you could see the CPU of Microsoft security essentials maxed out. So I dumped it and moved to others trying to find one that worked. I used Avira for a bit then they sold out and starting adding a toolbar you had to have installed to even use them. Moved to Panda and they where a pain, tried many others and then moved to Avast for the last year or so. While Avast had the faster scanner out there it has become to annoying and the amount of false positives is driving me nuts. "So today I got rid of avast and grabbed the newest Microsoft security essentials. And I did my test on that same 11 mb file that took 11 sec to open last time. This time it took less than 1 sec to open and cpu barley moved. Looks like they really improved the performance. So looks like I will be moving my customers and my self back to Microsoft security essentials. (After a little more testing) This means no more nag screens, no more toolbar or browser downloads so they can make their money, and to top it off MS has the fewest amount of false positives out of all them. Does this mean Microsoft security essentials is my favorite? Nope. I have no favorite. They all have limits and none of them are perfect and I have cleaned viruses off of every type of system with every known AV out there. But for my 3 rules Microsoft security essentials finally fits the bill. Lets hope it stays that way. Thanks for the input from my fellow users and techs, and remember if you have a favorite that is fine, just make sure what the reason are why they are your favorite. While an Antivirus might have been good at one point doesn't mean they stay that way, McAfee and Symantec are good examples of that. If you want to compare speed, false positives and detection rates of all the AV's check out http://www.av-comparatives.org/ Some of the biggest names out there have really gone down hill :-)
  19. When it comes to "translating" the latest speccy version (v1.24) is better. But I still have one complaint. Upon installation the user can choose which language Speccy should use. For me, I like to see all texts to be displayed in dutch. So, in the installation program I chose "Nederlands" (=dutch). But then why do I need to select "Nederlands" for a second time in the main program ? I think Speccy should remember the choice for a particular language, the user has made in the installation program and use that for the main program.

  22. I encountered some odd behaviour in DF v2.15 on my Win 7 system. And I consider this to be a bug. First of all, I want to say that I like v2.15 because it lists the file type & the time a file was last modified. Thumbs up for DF !!!! When DF comes across a defragmented directory file then DF displays the line "[Folder Entry] ................................... Bestandsmap ............................... " "Bestandsmap" is dutch for "Directory File. It's clear DF pulls up/tries to pull up the dutch name for this filetype. And in about 99% (100% ????) of the cases it pulls up the right dutch name. E.g. When DF comes across a defragmented "*.MOF" file, DF displays the dutch text "MOF-bestand" (= "MOF-file" in english) and not the english text "MOF-file". Thumbs up for DF !!! When I change the language from dutch to english then DF still pulls up the dutch filetype names. So, it seems the file type name is pulled up from one's Operating System and the file type name is not stored in DF itself. Up to this point I have nothing to complain about. But when a file doens't have an extension, DF still marks that file as a (defragmented) "Directory file" (dutch: "Bestandsmap") but it should be obvious that when this file doesn't have the "Directory" attribute set, it shouldn't be marked as such. It should be named "bestand" (=file). See also the picture in the attachment. E.g. the file named "Search[4]" is a file while at the same time the file named "{1778657e-35dd-......" is a folder. But DF marks both files "Bestandsmap" (=Filedirectory).
  23. - Speccy v1.23 still has a language problem. When I change the language then a significant amount of words simply don't get translated right away. I need to restart the program to get those strings translated. In other words, the (what I would call) "Update screen info" (sub-)routine overlooks A LOT OF strings. Speccy knows how to "translate" the text strings because it does so correctly upon start up.
  24. Windows Repair has moved to version v2.0.0. http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tweaking_com_windows_repair.html
  25. The programcode is still not "up to snuff". Instead of hitting "Remove", CC allows me also to press the "Delete" button on my keyboard. And then the button "Remove" is blocked but it's NOT greyed out. Needs to be improved !!!!
