  1. I encountered some odd behaviour in DF v2.15 on my Win 7 system. And I consider this to be a bug. First of all, I want to say that I like v2.15 because it lists the file type & the time a file was last modified. Thumbs up for DF !!!! When DF comes across a defragmented directory file then DF displays the line "[Folder Entry] ................................... Bestandsmap ............................... " "Bestandsmap" is dutch for "Directory File. It's clear DF pulls up/tries to pull up the dutch name for this filetype. And in about 99% (100% ????) of the cases it pulls up the right dutch name. E.g. When DF comes across a defragmented "*.MOF" file, DF displays the dutch text "MOF-bestand" (= "MOF-file" in english) and not the english text "MOF-file". Thumbs up for DF !!! When I change the language from dutch to english then DF still pulls up the dutch filetype names. So, it seems the file type name is pulled up from one's Operating System and the file type name is not stored in DF itself. Up to this point I have nothing to complain about. But when a file doens't have an extension, DF still marks that file as a (defragmented) "Directory file" (dutch: "Bestandsmap") but it should be obvious that when this file doesn't have the "Directory" attribute set, it shouldn't be marked as such. It should be named "bestand" (=file). See also the picture in the attachment. E.g. the file named "Search[4]" is a file while at the same time the file named "{1778657e-35dd-......" is a folder. But DF marks both files "Bestandsmap" (=Filedirectory).
  2. - Speccy v1.23 still has a language problem. When I change the language then a significant amount of words simply don't get translated right away. I need to restart the program to get those strings translated. In other words, the (what I would call) "Update screen info" (sub-)routine overlooks A LOT OF strings. Speccy knows how to "translate" the text strings because it does so correctly upon start up.
  3. Windows Repair has moved to version v2.0.0. http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/tweaking_com_windows_repair.html
  4. The programcode is still not "up to snuff". Instead of hitting "Remove", CC allows me also to press the "Delete" button on my keyboard. And then the button "Remove" is blocked but it's NOT greyed out. Needs to be improved !!!!
  5. Or try to run the program "Windows Repair" (www.tweaking.com) and make sure you tick the box "Repair WMI".
  6. @Andavari: Panda may use a very special way to register itself in WMI. That is, directly into the Repository itself. If that happens then even rebuilding the repository with Windows Repair or the MOFCOMP command won't help when it got corrupted. Then there's no other choice but to re-install the program again.
  7. Thumbs up for the CC developers. CC v4.06 is much better. The "Remove" button is blocked & greyed out as soon as the user hits "Remove".
  8. Times are tough, even for organisations that write AV programs. Having a forum is apparently too costly. (Hint, hint ............).
  9. I would like to see the behaviour of DF improved. Take the following steps; 1. Hit "Analyze" and DF will show all fragmented files. 2. Select all fragmented files (Ctrl-A) and then click on one of the (in my case, red) blocks. Then a list of all files that are located in that (red) block shows up in and it's shown whether or not these files are fragmented. That happens in a separate tab that pops up called "Highlighted". 3. Select one or more fragmented files and hit "Defrag Checked". Then DF starts defragging those selected files. So far so good. What I don't like is that the tab "Highlighted" disappears and the tab "File list" becomes active again when DF starts defragging the files. I think the tab "Highlighted" should remain visible until the user closes that tab or selects another tab.
  10. @hazelnut: A second question; What's the name of that "Windows Defender" Service in Win 8 ? "WinDefend", "Msmpsvc" or are both Services available/present in Win 8 ? Or does it have a different name ?
  11. Today,"Bleeping computer" still needs to update their download files for the new Windows Repair (v1.9.17) and Registry Backup (v1.6.7). It's better to go to Major Geeks. They had the new versions only hours after they were released. http://www.majorgeek...ows_repair.html http://www.majorgeek...try_backup.html
  12. @Dennis: "Major Geeks" is MUCH faster.
  13. @Andavari: Try the new Windows Repair version v1.9.17. Does this adress your AV problem better ?
  14. With the XP installation CD I must go through the usual set up procedure, to install XP Windows, but, of course, without the HP drivers. I start my laptop without a CD, the OS is installed on the HDD !! I have a CD drive in both of my laptops. It's my experience that these drives are very easily damaged and then the drive can't be used any more. I therefore have a USB drive that's much more robust. A USB drive is much better because it has no moving parts. Agree. That folder with the driver is full of bloatware/crapware and I got rid of a significant part of the bloatware.
  15. I want to share a trick I have been using in the last 9 years and that's useful for everyone who hates image CDs. I have a HP laptop (Win XP) that came with 5 image CDs and a installation CD. I re-installed the XP system "more than once" in the past 9 years. If I used the XP installation disk then the drivers for the laptop were missing. (No, at the time I wasn't aware that one could do a "repair install"). That forced me to use the image CDs every time I re-installed the system. But after say 5 re-installs, I found out that, after having used the image CDs, there was a separate folder that contained all the HP driver software for that laptop. I then copied the drivers to an USB drive. It allowed me to get rid of the image CDs, use a normal installation CD and install the drivers for the laptop from the USB drive afterwards. It also allowed me to re-install the drivers when these drivers became corrupted, which happened about 3 times as well. People with a HP laptop should look for a folder called "c:\Swsetup". This trick worked for my current Win 7 HP laptop as well. And I am confident this story applies to other brands of computers as well that come without an installation CD.
  16. Yes, I am familiar with this problem. http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2009/04/13/wmi-rebuilding-the-wmi-repository.aspx
  17. After DF has found a number of defragmented files, it lists them, by default, sorted by the amount of fragments. The files then can be sorted by the user by clicking on "Size", "Path", "Name" & "Fragments". But when the user re-starts DF then the program "forgets" the latest sorting order. Suggestion: I would like to see that DF remembers on which column the files were sorted right before DF is closed and then, when DF is restarted, uses that info to sort the files again. Instead of always sorting on the amount of fragments, upon start up.
  18. Any one who takes more than a cursory look at this webpage/picture knows that this is VERY suspicious. I have visited too much Microsoft webpages to fall for this trick.
  19. Made some major changes in the previous post.
  20. Ooops, Yes, but in both versions (v4.04 & v4.05) this still hasn't been fixed.
  21. @Kroozer: I was talking about "greying out", not about "disabling". Currently when CC v4.05 is busy removing one or more SRPs, the button "Remove" is blocked/disabled but it isn't greyed out at the same time. And that's confusing as well. CC should execute the following sequence when the user has hit "Remove": 1. Block and grey out the "Remove" button 2. Remove one or more System Restore Points. 3. Flush the mouse click/keyboard buffer. 4. Unblock the "remove" button and Un-"Grey out" the "Remove" button.
  22. CC v4.05 still needs to be improved. The program is not yet "up to snuff". I think the "Remove" button should be greyed out as soon as the user has approved the deleting of one or more Restore Points.
