    firefox 03.0.03

Back OT, I haven't noticed any drastic changes in Firefox 3.0.3, except for certain sites not allowing the Java applet to load (ie - http://www.achaea.com/nexus/play.php ), whereas others will ( ie - java.com ). It's very odd, but, beyond that, I've noticed a memory usage drop, compared to the original 3.0 release. I'm minimalist in my extensions, though, and only keep what I need.
  2. I use VLC for videos and some music, and GOM Player for everything else. If one doesn't work on one, the other usually fixes that problem.
  3. Personally, I use Gparted. (link). It's worked for me, thus far.
  4. This seems to be the "mass" consensus, except in my circles. Why is it that firefox 3 has always ran faster for me than 2 ever did? Why do so many people have problems doing the same thing I do? Why do so many people complain, when I've only had one problem related to a java client for a MUD I play? I'm on the internet 4-5 hours a day, using this computer, and using firefox 3. I've never use IE7, and I used Chrome for the few days when it was the "new thing." I'm so confused.
  5. I've been watching Firefox 3's ram usage on my vista machine, and this is my set-up: Although, I might be a little more yahoo about Opera, if I liked it. Chrome is a new refreshment, though, from the general browser war material.
  6. 1 - Wrong. Upon reading this, I tested, and sure enough, I was able to load Chrome the way I wanted, with the homepage I wanted. 2 - Wrong again. Tinker with it before making assumptions. The options menu is how I was able to change homepage
  7. I was told, even today, that Spybot is still good for catching the sneaky ones, and it's saved my ass on a few occasions. As well as Ad-aware. This excerpt confuses me.

    Page File

Currently, my page file is set at 2-ish GB, as I think that Microsoft sets the page x1.5 more than the RAM in your comp(?). Now, essentially, my question, would it be a waste of my hard-drive to set the page file higher? I mean, 1GB with Vista isn't exactly "speedy", although it does run quite well. I only ask because, as of now, most of my HD-space is being wasted (out of 289GB, I have 41.1 GB used, and that's only because of auto-back-ups.
  9. Upon installation i got a security alert with a 98% chance of a virus? It was trying to install Adobe AIR Could this be a probable false-positive? (It was F-Secure that refused the installation)
  10. This is mostly dedicated to any Linux users out there : What distro do you currently use? Which Desktop Environment : Gnome/KDE/Xfce/Enlightenment? And, the oddest question, but something warranting answering : Have you tried Grub2 yet? [link here] Thank you ahead of time for your answers.
  11. #6 isn't new. I've seen that one tossed at me more than I can count over the last 5 years o.O #16 is my favorite
  12. I can guarantee that everyone but me in this house would fall for it.
  13. @Andavari: Blasphemy. /fanboymode
  14. I broke the tie.. CCleaner. It's more purdy.
  15. It's a great update. I noticed that some opera files weren't cleaned upon running this (by this, I mean, that this version scrubbed 'em). I did, however, notice a slight speed increase. Great job, Piriform, a gem as usual.
  16. IE6? (O.o) Have you scanned with Spybot? That caught too much junk that most of my other AV/ASW miss. also : Taken from : http://nwitimes.com/articles/2007/07/26/co...3230053df5d.txt I don't know about Add-Remove Pro, as I use Revo Uninstaller, but, perhaps, you should consider the Microsoft.com fix? Although, I warn you now, it's registry editting. [edit]:doh. I just watched the video. You tried to delete the registry keys already. What... what if you try deleting them in safe mode? Or have you tried that as well?

    Mozilla 3

Make sure you check to see if the links it provides are not from your bookmarks, because the latest release of FireFox has something called 'Awesome Bar", which basically searches through your bookmarks and offers the closest to your query. (that last word is probably spelled wrong. I need sleep) I do believe, however, you can stop this by changing the following values in about:config ::: If that doesn't work, please inform me, and I'll figure out what I did to discontinue it.
  18. I wish they wouldn't discontinue tried & true products. They're throwing away perfectly good versions in place for a heavy one. I was upset when they threw away AVG anti-rootkit (only to place it in their security suite, them rotten bastards ). Anyways, I miss the old feel of AVG-AV.
  19. It's back to #1, where it belongs.
  20. I've noticed that when I use CCleaner prior to defragging with Defraggler, WMITracing.log and SCM.EVM stops them from being defragged. However, if I load up my computer with a restart after cleaning, and defrag, it gets everything but the System Volume Information areas. Taken from http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/archive/...1/20/55764.aspx Essentially, I'd be wary about doing anything with this folder. One way I clear it, is by making a manual system back-up, and deleting the rest of them, as mentioned here. Although, I think defragging in safe mode might help, too. I've not tried that route, though. Hope this helps some.
  21. Do what I do, say "screw the new systems until my caffiene-riddle system can afford it," and play old-school PSX games, DOS games, and so on. In my honest opinion, I haven't seen as many good games being released compared to those released pre-2k.
  22. What about trying to delete it in safe-mode? Doesn't it only load those files that are needed to run Windows and nothing else?

    Opera 9.5 RC

Is it just me, or is Opera spitting out RC's like mad? I mean, within the course of two days, Filehippo.com has shown RC1 on the 26th and RC2 on the 28th. Was 9.5 pushed ahead too fast, and now they have to catch up on missed bugs, or am I mistaken? [edit] : I also believe there was a beta release of 9.51 earlier last week, or around that time. [edit] : Missed a capital. Fixed it. Nothing changed from the original post beyond that.
