  1. It does, but I still fear. My laptop was a gift from my "other" and we don't have much money right now. Is there a program to detect HD temp as well as CPU temp? I mean, once my CPU hits 70, the entire bottom of my laptop is scathing hot, and it begins hardcore lag (not in a game, just in general). A normal menu opening took five minutes, once, it was so bad, and upon stepping outside into a blistering cold wind, it began working at normal speed (within a minute or so).
  2. I'm Canadian, so it's always Celsius for me. I don't understand Fahrenheit, to be honest. It's always sounds worse than it is
  3. Just read about this on slashdot, I think. Thanks, Kenny.
  4. 1) When I started defragging with Defraggler I had 62% free space. After I had 51% free space... Um... Why would this be? It doesn't make sense to me. This is a very common problem lately. I realized this, and had to make a new system restore point, and delete all the others before it. It's a restore point, though, as has been said before, but I'm far too lazy to link up. 2) I have 6 or 7 very large files with a path of "C:/System Volume Information/" that need to be defragged, but Defraggler isn't able to defrag these for some reason. Why is this? I think, heh, that those are system restore points. It's been suggested that one shouldn't defrag those anyways.
  5. It's the CPU temp. On both XP and Ubuntu I have CPU temp programs. I'm not very hardware savvy, so I'm not sure what can affect what.
  6. Dell Inspiron 5150 I dual-boot XP SP3 and Ubuntu (although, I'm switching to Arch within the week). XP idles at 45-50 and Ubuntu stays in 40s until I open up something like firefox. Usually within the hour, both hit 70, and I shutdown, in fear of HD damage.
  7. This is not only true of Dell but most people I talk to. My brother's girlfriend pays for reinstalls every time her comp gets infected. Also, I wish I could help you, but my laptop has been overheating too, although mine idle at 50 Celsius and when in use goes to 70. This, I've been told, is due to a thermal gel (or was it the heatsync? (although, it was also the way it was built)) that was recalled a while back. I did not know this. I know there was a large thing about the particular laptop, and everyone got brand new ones because of a court case. (or something. I'm too tired to check). I can't do this, however, as I bought mine secondhand and I don't know if they'll help me.
  8. http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=6987 MBAM Version 1.30 released.
  9. Try making a system restore point, and the open Disk Cleanup, hit the second tab, and delete up to most recent restore point. You'll get your space back. trust me. (if not, this would warrant looking into, mayhaps)
  10. n/m. It was, indeed, rude of me. Thanks, Davey. I need that kind of point out every now and then.
  11. Just a quick note, your CCleaner application crippling source link is broken.
  12. This is weird. One day, it was working, and today, it's not even registering Firefox. I have the profile.ini set up in the right spot, with the path of the profile folder in it, as mentioned on a few sites I checked out, but, now I can't get it to work. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? [edit]: This is my profile.ini file (located at C:\Users\-removed-\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox) : [General]StartWithLastProfile=1[Profile0]Name=DefaultIsRelative=0Path=C:\Users\-removed-\-removed-\-removed-\PortableSuite\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\Data\profileDefault=1 I think it broke around the last update session for it, (SpywareBlaster, not Firefox). Any ideas on how I can fix this?
  13. I'm sorry if this has been made before, but I couldn't find one, ('cept for the Freeware one, but this is not freeware-exclusive). This is just a cheap way for me to find new programs My list : CCleaner CounterStrike 2D - Fun, free, and time-consuming, need I say more? - Defraggler Firefox Portable 3.0.3 - With My Usual Addons - Foxit - Portable edition - MBAM MUSHClient 4.37 - IMHO, the best MUD/MUSH client available - Pidgin Portable VLC Media Player Portable 0.94
  14. Unfortunately, I can't find any reason why this would be necessary.
  15. I prefer these guides for what to buy : http://arstechnica.com/guides/buyer/guide-200809.ars Updated as needed.
  16. Got that earlier today. So far, so good.
  17. Just deleted Update 7, and now Update 10 isn't even being recognized. No applet off the web (IE7 and FF3), no verification off their website). Something went wrong somewhere D:
  18. It also seems it doesn't take over Update 7's spot as main Java runtime. Nothing was changed, 'cept for it being placed on my Add/Remove Programs list. Update 7 is still the show-in king. Anyone having this problem, on Vista?
  19. I thought it was a small shout-out to the online meme of "Copypasta". I need to get out more.
  20. What it looks like is that it does, indeed, work with Firefox 2, it just doesn't, to quote, use the next-gen plug-in, rather, it sticks with the old one. [edit] : However, I use Firefox 3.0.3 and 3.1 (portable), so I wouldn't be able to give an educated guess, as I gave 2 up when beta 5 of 3 came out.
  21. It seems JavaRa doesn't catch the update via the Java Update Checker? (which means this isn't an official release yet, as the Java Updater still thinks JRE6_7 is the latest?)
  22. Javascript speeds NOTE: Tests may vary from computer to computer. Anyone able to test IE8? Tests were given at : http://wd-testnet.world-direct.at/mozilla/.../jsTimeTest.htm
  23. AntiVir is really good, although, it doesn't like being on my HD with other virus scanners, and that leads to false-positive wars (note : i don't run them at the same time). (
