  1. I like the one for XP. I do not like the Aero-based one. I don't like transparency, and I don't like clunky, and for some reason, the one for 7 gives me a "hello, i am bloated" feel to it. Meh. Just my half-dead 2 canadian cents.
  2. While I wish it was the 27th ( my birthday ), I'm pretty sure that's next monday.
  3. I just read that on slashdot! I think it's an understatement to say I'm pleasantly surprised!
  4. See, I read LotR and loved it the first time. My second read, I was more 'meh' about it. Maybe that's because I read Martin's massive Song of Fire and Ice (which, thankfully, is unfinished), but maybe it's just because so much fantasy is based off of Tolkien's writing that after a time, the shine begins to fade. Anyways, I'm probably going to get my hands on Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen soon, because I heard it's comparable to Martin's epic style. Anyone read any of his books? (And by 'him' I mean Erikson)
  5. Stephen King's best work, imho : The Stand, It, On Writing (I've reread this book too many times) and the Dark Tower series. He also does a lot of stuff I didn't like (ie - Dreamcatcher and the stuff he did with Straub). It's give-and-take with his sort of stuff. I haven't read Twilight, but my girlfriend made me buy a copy. I won't let her read it, though, until she finishes the second book of Song of Fire and Ice. Dan Brown is great. I read both Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code in single nights. A rare feat, given I like to read a chapter, think on it, and wait until the next day to read the next chapter. But they were just too much fun. I'll find myself a copy. That Kabuki sounds like a really interesting read!

    MyDefrag

Not sure if it's completely respectful of me to post this (given that Piriform develops Defraggler), but MyDefrag (the program formerly known as JkDefrag) just released a new version. Get it at filehippo. It's pretty damn nice, though. I think this will be my once-a-month defrag with Defraggler running daily.
  7. If you really liked Dune, I can only suggest reading up to God Emperor. After that, it has a different feel. That's actually one book I've never read. Lewis, ain't it? I think I'll be checking if the local library has it. I still do that =X Snot-filled water balloons is the epitome of high-class humor! Robin Hobbs is brilliant, but I've only read the first book of her Farseer trilogy, Assassin's Apprentice. It was so good. Tawny Man, iirc, looks like the series I'd enjoy the best, given that my favorite character from the book I've read was the Fool. I've never read David's work, but I'll be giving it a look. Any recommendations on any specific titles of his?
  8. Everyone finds it surprising that people are all shocked Michael died, and the fact that many people are mourning the world's loss. Mind you, some people are doing for fashionable reasons, I'm going to presume, and just play sad. We've all seen it done if we've ever had someone rather popular die. It's more of a social event then a time of mourning for some folk, and those people are the sick ones. I agree, Michael should be remembered for the great things he did and not for what he was accused of. He was a curious person. That should be enough.
  9. What do you lot read? Me? I just finished re-reading Scott R. Bakker's "The Darkness That Comes Before", the first book of his Prince of Nothing series. It's a great read, though I've only managed to get my hands on the first book (but my birthday is coming up and I might be getting a load of books). I'm currently reading Pratchett's "Guards! Guards!", which, of course, is a damned brilliant read. Some of my favorite books include Dune ( Frank Herbert ), Cryptonomicon ( Neal Stephenson ), A Game of Thrones ( George R.R. Martin ), and anything by R.A. Salvatore.

    Education

I thank my daughter. I don't want her to ruin her life as bad as I did. So, with enough work and effort, maybe I can make sure she has what she needs.
  11. The ver. number looks to be the same as the beta available on Filehippo. I'm currently cloning the chromium git, so I'll tell you if anything changed between them. Git version is actually behind. But the beta on filehippo and the version you offered are the same.
  12. Opera is nice, and I've played with it for quite awhile, but the only browsers I can use these days seem to be Chrome and Firefox. -shrug- Not saying it isn't remarkable work, though. Because it is.
  13. I never once said that Mozilla shouldn't fix it, I just said that everyone publicly announcing it only allows the script kiddies who know very little about web vulnerabilities the knowledge on how to utilize it via popular websites. That was my point, not some sort of "I THINK WE SHOULD COMPLETELY IGNORE SECURITY VULNERABILITIES IN WEB BROWSERS." This is both true and unfortunate, indeed. Noted. I've been playing with Sandboxie for awhile, but I've never even looked at Returnil (I just reinstalled Windows for the first time in 2 years after using Linux, and nothing but).
  14. I think people are becoming too security-aware. The more it's announced, the more some idiot script-kiddie is likely to find a program to take advantage of it. There's going to be critical vulnerabilities in everything we use, and saying 'watch out' will just make people paranoid and avoid the program. Regardless, thanks for the point-out, but I am not scared of coming across anything that this could possibly affect (effect? infect?) me with. NoScript usually does a good job of watching my back.
  15. It's actually caught a few things on a number of computers I've helped fix over the last few months, so it can't be that bad.

    Education

I'm a drop-out, unfortunately, though it's of my own doing. I decided, at the brilliant age of 14 (because every 14 year old is the most brilliant being alive, and God help you if you try to deny them their brilliance) that is was smarter to spend my high-school years completely coked up and partying. I decided being cool was far more productive than being smart. I went from an A average in grade 7 to a C- average in grade 8, to a complete failure in grade 9. Funny, how it works out like that, no? I'm going to be finishing high school this year, though.
  17. I'm turning 22, not this Monday but next.

    ubuntu

Actually, the biggest problem with linux these days is people copy-pasting commands. :<
  19. I'm surprised this hasn't happened before. I get them all the time on a MUD forum I'm part of.
