  1. I talked with a few friend who used it, and they were quite surprised, although, a touch sad because some extensions wouldn't work with it, but, one should expect this with a beta. However, they also didn't notice that tracemonkey wasn't activated upon installation. Can someone say 'oops' to their surprise? From Ars Technica. [edit] -blush- Just noticed that this is also reported in the OP article posted as well. Can someone say 'oops' to my lack of attention?
  2. WHOOPS! If anyone read this post, apologies. It seems that there was indeed a system restore of 10GB or so that happened during the defrag, and I needed to wait til another restore point was created to clear it. Sorry! -blush- edited
  3. This is the filehippo.com download page for CCleaner. This is where it links to.
  4. I'm actually going to give this a thorough reading, as my Dell is already in risk zone because of some construction malfunction (bought it second-hand for really cheap, I couldn't help myself). It overheats, it slows, it stalls at 70 Celcius. I pretty much have an hour on Linux before I have to shut down, whereas I have the fans going near all the time on XP and it runs at about 35-50 Celcius. I don't think I could ever give up on Linux. It needs work, as it always has, but, with enough support, and determination, I'm sure it'll be well-suited on laptops eventually.
  5. Actually, a quick question involving these web-scanners. What confuses me, is that one scan claims F-Secure found nothing, whilst on the other it is suspicious. Also, this program that I scanned was found in F-Secure's directory. -if I could paint an image of my eyes boggling out, i would do so- What should I do? I mean, if I remove it, and it somehow damages the F-Secure security suite, I will run around in circles as though in flames, but if I do not delete it, I am risking my hide on a possible trojan (although, admittedly possible false-positive). don't bother answering, actually, I'll follow the guide, and post up in the spywarehell forum once I've followed the guide. however, it would be helpful if you would point out if these might be false-positives as the scans generally only have 5-8% of the scanners catching something or finding the file suspicious.
  6. I can't help but love you. This is why I have my laptop, my main source of computing these days, running Linux. (alternating between Ubuntu, Arch Linux, and Debian.).
  7. Just concerned because I noticed SiteAdvisor placed a file : C:\Users\-name-\AppData\Roaming\SiteAdvisor\asserts.txt But, I'll trust ya!
  8. I feel like a -bleep-ing idiot, omg. Decided to try installing it, and ding, ding, ding! Should've been my first guess. Although, a question still remains : If I do end up transferring this onto a usb, will it still work? (as in, does it rely on registry keys of some sort? as i'm sure a number of plugins do)
  9. Auto-Updates are bloody annoying, IMHO, so I do it straight manual. It's nice to know about these kind of things. Thanks, Kenny
  10. Made by the same grand folks who made CCleaner <3
  11. I know that, at times, using Defraggler, one can sometimes see a brief fluctuation in HD space (for me, it's usually 1-2 gigs), but it generally goes down after usage. Try restarting your computer, and see if anything has changed. I have no idea about 64bit systems, though D:
  12. This is with Adblock Plus Disabled Filehippo.com CCleaner page : http://tinyurl.com/4tqmz2 What It Links To : http://tinyurl.com/5yzhxs ETA - Both links are to FreeImageHosting.net, as I don't have an account anywhere, so free image hosting ftw. Edit : Confused the words 'up' and 'disabled' D: It would be smart to mention, now, that there are many rogue ads that try to suck you in and get you to download their programs. You have to have a keen eye, because, one looks closely enough at the ad, just above it is a small text line stating : ads by google. It'll take time, as is to be expected, before you recognize traps like this, but when you finally get used to it, you'll shudder at how many times you've fallen for these very traps. Thankfully, though, you can help people with these problems later on. MBAM, as YoKenny suggested, is a very good suggestion, but, alas, I've never tried the HOST solution. I've been fine for the last little while with SpywareBlaster/Adblock Plus and a little bit of close watching. I hope you aren't dissuaded, however, because CCleaner is a titan of a product, and what's more, it's free! Have a nice day
  13. This release was wonderful, I have to say. Keep 'em coming, Piriform. If I ever get a freaking job, I'll be sure to donate some your way! You've made my computer a happier lifeless box o' steel! Really, though, your work, as usual, is just grand. <3
  14. Over the time I've used Filehippo for upgrading, updating, and finding new programs, I have never come across anything that told me I have to pay. (Then again, I have Adblock Plus up at all times, so maybe it's just another malicious ad?) Anyways, you have to be more careful. Filehippo has always given me clean copies of CCleaner, so, I can't understand where you're coming from. Has anyone else had this problem? [edit] : Erk. I turned Adblock off, and saw the ad. You gotta be more careful. These ads are sneaky like that. Get adblock or something similar. It'll really change your life
  15. I, personally, wouldn't trust it. But I'm a skeptic when it comes to that kind of stuff. CCleaner has done it's job fluently, and I haven't regretted it yet (although, as mentioned in some of my previous posts, I also boost CCleaner with CleanUp!, but that's a personal choice.). Alongside, I defrag via Defraggler, and haven't needed to find another defragger yet.
  16. Is this possible? I have just switched to using Portable, over the main installation, (although, -blush- I'm running it on my HD, regardless.) The only loss I can see, in difference, is that of the lack of McAfee. Is there a way to fix this? I mean, I found a work-around to get SpyBlaster to work with Portable, so I assume there's a work-around with the Advisor.
  17. Thanks. Both sites informed me that it wasn't anything to worry about. Over contemplation, it probably was a builder application due to the number of freeware games I've been trying. Thank you very much for your help. You helped clear my head, Dennis.
  18. It seems, according to this link : NOTE: The site that the link links to is no longer active, although QSC is still in the business, but, apparently, not producing this program any longer. (it might be explainable in the sense that I have been playing around with a few freeware games of a little age. but still, better safe than sorry, am i right?) So, perhaps, I was jumping the guns a little bit? -blush- heh. I could still be right in my worries, as it does seem there was/is an adware program by the same name roaming around '03-'08 according to Norton's history, but, again, I could just be overly paranoid. (did I use overly in the correct way? apologies if i did not). If anyone can help clear my mind of this, I would be most grateful.
  19. This thread is not pertaining solely to Sandboxie, but a number of things involving security. I was recently looking at my latest Defraggler list of what needed to be defraggled, when I noticed a program in C:\Windows\ that wasn't there before. In this case, it was C:\Windows\GPInstall.exe. Upon googling, I found out that it was a suspected adware program (although, signals were confused as other sites said otherwise. Now, I've scanned it with MBAM, SUPERAntiSpyware, Avira, and it somehow made it's way past the active anti-* from F-Secure, so I'm wondering now if this is really the malicious adware I was reading about, or some other sort of program. I'm inclined to see what the executable accomplishes, but am worried that I risk breaching the security of my computer. I tried running the program in Sandboxie (I've never used it, but I've heard people talk of it) and it responded with an error message. What I'm asking is a series of questions here. 1 ) Does Sandboxie stop (?:executables|installation files) from (?:saving information|adjusting my computer's registry|*)? 2 ) Is this GPInstall.exe a risk? And how would I know if I'm putting something important into the recycle bin if I choose to do so? 3 ) Could I just be acting too paranoid?

  22. I don't update my drivers unless I know there's something absolutely wrong with 'em. Hasn't happened yet.
  23. Question is, what extensions were you using in conjunction? @OP
  24. I have Spybot / MBAM / AntiVir. (run once a week, update everyday). but I maintain a clean comp. I've never, unfortunately, used SUPERAntiSpyware OR SpywareBlaster (as I'm generally distrustful of programs until I am assured it's clean... is it clean and does it work? )
