This is from an Asus X551MA laptop, currently running Win 10 21H1 quite happily. You can see that it's given a caution on the Celeron N2840 CPU. Not sure why that is but may be because the processor itself is compatible but doesn't have Intel TPP (Intels on-chip TPM)? Or maybe because it's not on the Microsoft compatiblity list but the specs say it should be? There's a fail on DirectX/WDDM2. And there is no TPM, or it's not enabled. (There isn't one I've already checked). Not too many I think, even if they can work out why they cannot have Win 11. Jesse11 Posted July 2, 2021 Share Posted July 2, 2021 I do feel sorry for the people who might be left out when the RTM arrives. However, I do like the requirements. On the other hand, I think that if your hardware has TPM 1.2/2.0(PTT, fTPM or a hardware TPM chip) and Secure Boot and Intel Virtualization technology then that person should be able install Windows 11. Also, I think that the PC user should be able to disable the security feature in the BIOS that cause a performance hit (Hint, Intel Virtualization Technology). Does that mean half of them? I'm very glad that I kept my old computers. If this turns out like I think it will, they're all going over to Linux. From a YouTuber I watch he stated "you had better buy it very soon if you need it because scalpers are grabbing them and jacking up the price on auction sites". I'm glad my laptop is just barely OK, my TPM is alright, and my 8th Gen Intel Core i7 just barely made it since the cut off is supposedly 8th Gen but there's so much back and forth and Microsoft hasn't finalized everything yet. I'd find it stupid to cut off perfectly good older processors, etc., which would or will create a allot of e-waste worldwide just for a new Windows version. Maybe he's given it a go by now? Nope, I haven't bothered with it and I won't until it's officially released to the public and then I'll do my usual and wait 3-6 months. I have enough problems with their supposed "stable" builds causing problems that have been out for months, so anything that's very alpha/beta or dev level I would never inflict upon my laptop. If they keep the requirements what they are with CPU generation cutoffs, TPM, etc., I'll gladly tell people about Linux distros - better to keep a machine (especially laptops which aren't easy to upgrade if at all when it comes to the motherboard) that runs perfectly fine out of the garbage because those old incompatible PCs I don't think would be all that salable or they may be deemed worthless. At least with desktop PCs getting a compatible parts would be much easier but at a cost many people may not wish for. Edit: What makes it kind of stupid is there's still global shortages and price hikes. They could've waited until 2025 (when Win10 is end of life) before pulling the trigger. I for one don't care to ever have a Microsoft account let alone being forced to use it on an OS permanently, I mean they already know what the hardware is that it's installed on so they sure as hell don't need my credentials, and if that's the case I won't bother with Win11 and will just migrate to a Linux distro when Win10 is EOL in 2025.
