Moderators nukecad Posted June 27, 2021 Author Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2021 Here's a set of results from that new tool. This is from an Asus X551MA laptop, currently running Win 10 21H1 quite happily. You can see that it's given a caution on the Celeron N2840 CPU. Not sure why that is but may be because the processor itself is compatible but doesn't have Intel TPP (Intels on-chip TPM)? Or maybe because it's not on the Microsoft compatiblity list but the specs say it should be? There's a fail on DirectX/WDDM2. And there is no TPM, or it's not enabled. (There isn't one I've already checked). At least it gives a better idea of what you need to be looking at than Microsofts effort does. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Moderators hazelnut Posted June 27, 2021 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2021 How many folk do you think would be confident enough to turn on TPM in the bios ? Not too many I think, even if they can work out why they cannot have Win 11. Moderators nukecad Posted June 27, 2021 Author Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2021 It does seem stupid and as I said above I'll not be at all surprised if that requirement isn't dropped. Although this blog indicates that they don't intend to do that and see TPM2 as an integral part of Win 11:https://www.microsoft.com/security/blog/2021/06/25/windows-11-enables-security-by-design-from-the-chip-to-the-cloud/?ranMID=24542&ranEAID=kXQk6*ivFEQ&ranSiteID=kXQk6.ivFEQ-F1FQJkmHGPq_8kgszNG02g&epi=kXQk6.ivFEQ-F1FQJkmHGPq_8kgszNG02g&irgwc=1&OCID=AID2000142_aff_7593_1243925&tduid=(ir__dcfg633qkwkfqijhowf2dxsd0e2xuqr6etliv1le00)(7593)(1243925)(kXQk6.ivFEQ-F1FQJkmHGPq_8kgszNG02g)()&irclickid=_dcfg633qkwkfqijhowf2dxsd0e2xuqr6etliv1le00 *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? Jesse11
I do feel sorry for the people who might be left out when the RTM arrives. However, I do like the requirements. On the other hand, I think that if your hardware has TPM 1.2/2.0(PTT, fTPM or a hardware TPM chip) and Secure Boot and Intel Virtualization technology then that person should be able install Windows 11. Also, I think that the PC user should be able to disable the security feature in the BIOS that cause a performance hit (Hint, Intel Virtualization Technology). Lastly, Intel Virtualization Technology should not be a mandatory requirement.

Jesse11
OK, I was my own guinea pig. Since everyone has a unique setup, I don't advise anyone to run CCleaner on their Windows 11 PCs. However, I did with no issues so far.
Moderators nukecad Posted July 2, 2021 Author Moderators Share Posted July 2, 2021 I would definitely avoid the Registry Cleaner, the Software Updater, and the Driver Updater. Health Check as well, except possibly if CCleaner Free, in Pro it runs Software Updater (Security), and I wouldn't trust the Startup (Speed) check either. *** Out of Beer Error ->->-> Recovering Memory *** Worried about 'Tracking Files'? login123
The tail is wagging the dog. Again. To render obsolete PCs which fall below a "median" standard invented by microsoft? Does that mean half of them? I'm very glad that I kept my old computers. If this turns out like I think it will, they're all going over to Linux. The CCleaner SLIM version is always released a bit after any new version; when it is it will be HERE :-) Pssssst: ... It isn't really a cloud. Its a bunch of big, giant servers. I sit corrected! Awesome, that should help make it accessible to more people. From a YouTuber I watch he stated "you had better buy it very soon if you need it because scalpers are grabbing them and jacking up the price on auction sites". I'm glad my laptop is just barely OK, my TPM is alright, and my 8th Gen Intel Core i7 just barely made it since the cut off is supposedly 8th Gen but there's so much back and forth and Microsoft hasn't finalized everything yet. I'd find it stupid to cut off perfectly good older processors, etc., which would or will create a allot of e-waste worldwide just for a new Windows version. Maybe he's given it a go by now? Nope, I haven't bothered with it and I won't until it's officially released to the public and then I'll do my usual and wait 3-6 months. I have enough problems with their supposed "stable" builds causing problems that have been out for months, so anything that's very alpha/beta or dev level I would never inflict upon my laptop. If they keep the requirements what they are with CPU generation cutoffs, TPM, etc., I'll gladly tell people about Linux distros - better to keep a machine (especially laptops which aren't easy to upgrade if at all when it comes to the motherboard) that runs perfectly fine out of the garbage because those old incompatible PCs I don't think would be all that salable or they may be deemed worthless. At least with desktop PCs getting a compatible parts would be much easier but at a cost many people may not wish for. Edit: What makes it kind of stupid is there's still global shortages and price hikes. They could've waited until 2025 (when Win10 is end of life) before pulling the trigger. Willy2
- I was very close to buying a brand new laptop with Windows 10. But when a TPM chip is required for Windows 11 then I am not in a hurry anymore to move to Windows 10 anytime soon. I simply will have to see what the future brings. I've been looking at Mini PCs since I'd like to fully retire my Sony PlayStation 3 from playing most of the videos and music (although it's still good for that) although it's not good for 60FPS video. That Mini PC shopping is on hold now. Due to the pandemic and the world economy I wonder if Microsoft is in collusion with hardware vendors to generate allot of wealth, we'll never know but it's been questioned already that the motive may not be entirely "security" focused. Moderators Andavari Posted October 8, 2021 Moderators Share Posted October 8, 2021 They need to be very clear on needing a Microsoft account because there's confusion about it, such as; One reviewer on YouTube stated one was needed for Win10 Home, and that it had to be left enabled in order to use Win11 - so in other words according to his evaluation you can't just create it for installation only, and then go back to only using a local account. I for one don't care to ever have a Microsoft account let alone being forced to use it on an OS permanently, I mean they already know what the hardware is that it's installed on so they sure as hell don't need my credentials, and if that's the case I won't bother with Win11 and will just migrate to a Linux distro when Win10 is EOL in 2025.
